Section 117 Research in progress

In the eighth month of the lunar calendar, the once green plants gradually lost their luster, and the tips of the grass leaves began to show a trace of dry yellow. As the north wind blew, one or two leaves fell with the wind.

At this time, the fallen leaves were a little yellow, flying back and forth in the wind, and finally landed on the ground.

Ah! What a romantic grass! What a romantic leaf! In this romantic weather in early autumn, even the north wind seems to have a hint of romantic coolness...

"Brother Xiao Chun? Brother Xiao Chun! Why is he smirking? Do you miss a woman?" The quarreling voice of Li Erzi kept ringing in Lu Chun's ears. Although Lu Chun didn't want to pay attention to him, this guy actually pulled his sleeves hard. Now Lu Chun couldn't ignore him.

"Go and go... stay there." He destroyed his good mood.

"Hey! I must be missing a woman!" Li Erboy was not afraid of him at all. He ran away with a laugh, muttering something while running.

Previously, Lu Chun copied a few copies of the information that Xiao Heng gave him, gathered people and distributed the information, and then he had time to think about some romantic things.

However, when Li Erbo interrupted him, Lu Chun understood that although this guy seemed to be joking, he was actually reminding him that his classmates had already finished reading and were waiting for him now.

So Lu Chun put down his little thoughts for the time being, looked at everyone and asked, "Okay, do you have anything else to be unclear about the design principle?"

"I have it." Li Erbo saw that Lu Chun didn't chase him, so he didn't continue running. Then he came back and asked first: "The weight is not written on the information!"

"First solve the existence or not, then talk about the good or bad." Lu Chun explained seriously as Xiao Heng, "We will definitely consider the weight issue in the end, because this thing is to provide fuel to the internal combustion engine of the teacher. In the end, the internal combustion locomotive will replace the carriage like an electric car. Therefore, our gas generator cannot be too heavy, otherwise it will not be able to be loaded on the carriage."

"However, those problems can be considered later. Now we will determine the principle problems first, and then decide what methods to implement them... and finally consider how to lose weight."

Lu Chun said it very well, and the group of classmates in front of him had already done many projects with him, and even experienced the construction of a factory for Huang Xiangye. So although they were facing the relatively complex research and development of gas generators at this time, their entire team had already established enough confidence and work experience, and they were orderly in their work.

Finally, after a few people asked some details, the entire project team began to discuss the technical route.

"I think the dry distillation method is better, so that the fire below does not conflict with the dry distillation above, and there are fewer impurities in the gas. In the end, a relatively small filtration facility can be used to greatly reduce the weight."

The second boy from the Li family who became serious is skilled in business and has solid foundation, and the questions he raised are of great reference value.

"I think a single-stage furnace is good... because the more complex the system is, the more likely it is to have problems. If you use a dry distillation structure, whether it is the size of the furnace fire or the amount of steam below, you need to manually adjust it. These two parts alone require two people to operate... This has not included the manpower of the filler!"

Another girl retorted: "The structure of a single-stage furnace is simple, and only the air inlet needs to be adjusted... and the adjustment of the air inlet does not conflict with the addition of fuel! So it only takes one person to operate it."

Lu Chun sat aside, holding a pencil in his hand and kept recording it in the notebook. He did not express his opinions easily, because once he made a comment, if no one strongly opposed it, the technical route would basically be decided.

So before Lu Chun speaks out, he should try his best to listen to the voices in the entire team.

The single-stage, dry distillation gas generator that students are now discussing, is two completely different technical routes.

The structure of a single-stage gas generator is relatively simple, similar to that of an ordinary furnace.

When this gas generator is in use, it first ignites a part of the fuel, and uses this part of the fuel to increase the furnace temperature and boil the water.

After the temperature in the furnace reaches the standard, close the air inlet. At this time, the carbon in the furnace will be converted into a smoldering state. At this time, the steam will be penetrated into the scorching carbon and will produce a series of reactions, and finally produce combustible gases such as carbon monoxide, hydrogen, and methane.

However, since this is an endothermic reaction, the temperature in the furnace will continue to drop as the reaction proceeds, and the combustible gases generated will decrease when they drop to a certain level. At this time, the air inlet must be reopened to let the fuel in the furnace burn out and reheat it.

This cycle can produce combustible gases continuously.

However, although single-stage gas generators have many benefits, the gas supply is not so stable, and the quality of combustible gases is relatively low. They need to filter out smoke and dust in them before they can be used.

The dry distillation gas generator is different. The combustible gas produced by itself is relatively high in quality, the volume of the filter part can be reduced accordingly, and the loss of filter consumables will be greatly reduced.

But the dry distillation gas generator is not without its weaknesses, that is, its structure is relatively complex. Although the information given by Xiao Heng already has detailed drawings and directional suggestions, it is a bit challenging for Lu Chun and the startup team... After all, it is very difficult to create such a complex structure, and there must be countless problems waiting for them.

In summary, the single-stage structure is simple and has low risk, but the same effect is relatively poor. The risk of complex structure of the dry distillation type cannot be studied is extremely high, but its effect is also the best among the three.

Wait, three types?

Lu Chun frowned slightly, picked up the information given by Xiao Heng again and found that in addition to the above two, there was a technical route called "double-stage gas generator".

However, neither the female classmate nor Li Erzi chose this technical route - after all, the reliability of this technical route is not as reliable as the single-stage type, and the quality is not as good as the dry distillation type. Naturally, no one will choose this technical route that is neither up nor down yet has a very complex structure.

While Lu Chun was thinking, there was a conclusion.

"...Forget it, I can't convince you." Li Erzi spread his hands, "So Brother Xiaochun, what do you think?"

"I think it's better to create a single-stage style first." Lu Chun also considered this idea for a long time. "After all, we have no experience yet, so we can practice hands with simple methods... After creating it, if we find that the single-stage style is too simple for us, then we will use a dry distillation type. What do you think?"

"You are the leader, listen to you." Li Erzi shrugged.

If the "head" of the opposition has agreed, then no one else will object.

In this way, Lu Chun and his team's technical route was determined, which is a simple and reliable single-stage gas generator.

After determining the technical route, Lu Chun and his team began to carry out paper work based on the design drawings provided by Xiao Heng, and at least polish the drawings to the point where there are no flaws before conducting the test.

Behind these students, several senior blacksmiths felt their scalp numb... These children could only climb trees to dig birds, pee and mud, but in just over half a year, they have begun to become a bit unfamiliar with adults.

If you insist on saying what these children think of, then each child will have some shadow of Xiao Heng.

"Master, can you understand?" a little apprentice asked in a low voice.

"I understand the hammer!" The master frowned, "I don't know what it means if it is a single section and a dry distillation... Do you understand?"

"I've been to night school for a few days..." the little apprentice smiled, "...but I can't understand it even if I have studied for too short."

"Oh, study hard... Your master, I will probably be like this in my life. You are different, you are still young, and you still have the chance to be like them." The master looked at the children who were discussing seriously... There was a dazzling brilliance in their eyes.

"I hope there will be that day..." The little apprentice couldn't help but reveal a hint of envy in his eyes.

...

Meanwhile, the school lab.

“…ready?”

"Prepare...begin!"

As the switch was pulled down, several arcs suddenly appeared at one end of a somewhat rough metal stick... As these arcs emerged, the alcohol lamp below the arc was ignited.

"stop!"

The classmate who had been prepared had immediately turned on the switch, while another classmate stepped forward to take away and put out the alcohol lamp.

"Huh... there is finally a stable arc." The leading girl breathed a sigh of relief.

The problems that originally thought were very simple came into their hands but were frequently found. After all, Xiao Heng's information only had schematic diagrams and principle descriptions, and the most of them were the vows he made... But Xiao Heng did not give technical details.

Don't underestimate this detail!

However, the small problem of the spacing between the conductors that make the arc on the spark plug made the entire experimental team stuck for a long time. If the distance is too short, the arc is too small to effectively ignite the alcohol lamp, or the distance is too far and cannot produce a stable arc.

In short, it was such a small step that consumed a lot of their meridian energy, and there were still many technical difficulties waiting for them next.

...

Qin Mansion Backyard.

Xiao Heng, Wang Tiechui and the confidential workers who were transferred to produce glass were nervously staring at the clock next to them.

"Can you open the kiln?" Wang Tiechui saw the hand of the clock reaching the two o'clock position, and the countdown on Xiao Heng had just ended.

"Okay, open the kiln and take a look..." Xiao Heng turned off the countdown software on his phone.

As the thick iron door opened, a wave of heat rushed towards us... Although the temperature that can be opened in the kiln was already reached, the temperature in the annealing kiln was still very high.

After opening the hatch door, he waited for a while. After the annealing kiln was completely cooled, Xiao Heng rushed in impatiently, took out a piece of Ma steel and took it to the sun to observe.

"How?" Wang Tiechu came over and asked.

"Well... I can't tell you." Xiao Heng shook his head, "We still have to go to the machine to test it before we can find out."

The iron rod suspected to be "forged cast iron" in Xiao Heng's hand was installed on a special fixture, and then the power of the water truck was turned on.

As the waterwheel rotated, the iron rod was slowly stretched on the fixture... Finally, after a long stretch, it finally broke.

Without waiting for others to take action, Xiao Heng first pulled the power gate, then released the clamp and picked up one of the broken iron rods to observe... and the others also removed the other half and measured its length.

"Young master, you have to measure the piece in your hand." Wang Tiechhui reached out, Xiao Heng took a last look and handed him the broken iron rod in his hand.

After Wang Tiehui's measurement, the length of the two iron rods was added to one piece and was about 2 cm longer than before.

"How?" Xiao Heng asked.

"Well, wait..." Wang Tiehui's math was not very good, so he was naturally a little timid at this time, but Xiao Heng waited patiently and did not urge him.

"...The elongation after the break is three percent." Wang Tiechui replied sweating profusely.

"Oh?" Xiao Heng's eyes lit up, "Show me..."

After doing a quick calculation, a hint of joy gradually rose in Xiao Heng's heart... Wang Tiehui's calculation was right! The elongation after the break was indeed 3%!

"What about the tensile strength?" Xiao Heng asked casually, but when he saw Wang Tiehui's somewhat embarrassed expression, he quickly realized, "I'll calculate it myself..."

Xiao Heng and the others did not have a tension gauge, but through the torque provided by the water truck, the cross-sectional area of the iron rod and the entire time it was pulled out, Xiao Heng could roughly estimate the tensile strength of the iron rod, and the result was a very surprising answer:

“Tension strength is 550    mpa!!”

Xiao Heng looked at the data in surprise, shook the pencil in his hand, and incredibly checked the white paper back on the back, and he still got the same result.

"Great! We succeeded!!" Xiao Heng shouted.

"Success?" Wang Tiechui himself couldn't believe it.

Although Xiao Heng obtained very detailed annealing information, it was basically no different from a re-test based on the script, but the problem was that the equipment they used was simple!

Using such a simple equipment, I actually got a very good intensity, which solved the biggest technical bottleneck that troubled Xiao Heng and the others in one go!

With reliable pearlite forged cast iron, the gearbox, crankshaft and connecting rod are all in place!

Next, Xiao Heng and his team immediately used new materials to remade the crankshaft and connecting rods, and replaced the parts with the small steam engine they had made before.

Finally, I grind the tofu until night. After they removed the connecting rod crankshaft, they found that the wear level was minimal...

...This time, it really succeeded!
