Chapter 37 Sketch
"Is this Tess's home?"
It is different from the dilapidated one as imagined. Although the current townhouse is not as good as the single-family house on Wallen Street, it is almost the same as the house I rented at the university.
Clean, tidy, and has two bedrooms with balconies.
Matthew once again confirmed the address written down in his hand.
"The address is correct, senior, let's go in and take a look."
"OK."
After knocking on the door, there was a crashing sound inside, and after a while, a girl stuck her head out.
"Good afternoon, Mr. Annick, Sister Matthew."
Why don't you call me brother? Forget it. Don't worry about it.
"Good morning, we came here today to learn more about your sister's situation, and now we have a clue."
Hearing what Annick said, Farley hurriedly made way.
"Please come in, Mr. Annick, what did you find?"
"Let's go in and talk. Let's go in and sit for a while."
"Oh well."
Compared with the cleanliness outside, the house is relatively messy. Cardboard boxes and packed cloth parcels are on the ground, and a half-eaten piece of black bread is placed on the dining table.
Fa Li blushed and said, "There is no tea at home, so I can't entertain you."
Annick pointed to the package on the ground and said, "It doesn't matter, are you moving?"
Farley nodded and explained: "The rent here is too expensive, and we can't afford the rent without my sister. Although Rebona gave us a pension of two hundred pounds, the two of us still have to save money."
It is indeed not enough. With a half-year-old child and a child, Farley will not be able to find a serious job that can pay her until she is eighteen years old.
Matthew asked quite distressedly: "Are you ready to move there?"
"The housing center provides cheap shared rooms with shared bathrooms. Fortunately, the kitchen is not shared."
Farley didn't care and reported it directly.
"Let's talk about Tess first. I went to Lebo Ceramics and they said that all the relics have been handed over to you."
"Yes, my sister doesn't have many relics. Just some paintbrushes and tools are left in her room. I'll take you to see them."
"OK."
Annick and the others followed Farley to the second floor. One of the two bedrooms was Tess's room. When they opened the door, the things inside were neat and untouched.
In addition to a single bed, the entire room is filled with various drawing boards and canvases, including various works, including pencil sketches and oil paintings.
Annick walked in and started to look at it. Although his remaining knowledge did not have any sense of aesthetics in art, there was no abstract painting school at present. Appreciating whether a painting is good-looking or not is the simplest judgment.
These paintings do look good. They include not only portraits of celebrities, such as the sketches of kings on banknotes, but also oil paintings of Tess's family.
"Is this your family?"
Annick pointed to an oil painting of a couple and three children, with the current house in the background.
"Yes, a few years ago when my father was still alive, my sister didn't have to work herself. She studied painting from the nuns of the Mother Goddess Church."
I looked carefully at the characters in the painting and compared them with Farley in front of me. They were almost exactly the same except that they were one size smaller.
"Your sister's painting skills are very high, so the salary given by Lebo Ceramics is very high?"
Farley nodded. "Sister mentioned before that the weekly salary can be seven pounds, so we can continue to live here."
Seven pounds? This is more than when I was working as a clerk. Do painters have such high wages?
Annick became more and more certain that there was something behind the scenes in the Leibo family, or that the Leibo family might not just fake paintings. After all, there was so much market for ancient paintings.
"Matthew, what is the most valuable thing?"
Matthew thought briefly and said straightforwardly.
"Senior, of course the ten pound note is the most valuable, followed by the five pound note."
Snapped!
Annick took down the sketches of several kings. They were the current Charles II, Edward III, Saint King George, Alfred the Great and the founding monarch Harold I.
This is not exactly the image of the king on banknotes and coins. Although there are still many differences in details, it still looks quite similar if you look closely.
"Counterfeit money, these people are really brave."
"Counterfeit money? Where's that senior?" Matthew asked in confusion.
"Let's talk about it when we get back. By the way, Farley, can you sell these paintings to me?"
Farley looked embarrassed, "But these are the paintings left by my sister."
"Believe me, these paintings are related to the cause of your sister's death. Anyway, your sister still has so many paintings, and you two siblings can't rely on these for food."
"OK."
Annick took down a few sketches and then handed her a 5-pound note.
Farley waved her hands in refusal and said, "No, even if it's my sister's relic, Mr. Annick, you gave me too much. I can't take it."
Matthew directly took the banknotes from Annick's hand and stuffed them into Farley's pocket.
"Take it, seniors have a lot of salary anyway."
My salary is not that big, why don't you save me some money? But the money given out is a shame for Annick and he can't get the money back.
"Thank you, Mr. Annick."
"It doesn't matter, let's go."
Annick and the other three returned to the hall, thought about it, and then Annick said.
"Relying on your sister's pension alone is not enough, and we don't have enough money to help you, but..."
When Farley heard this, her depressed face regained its energy.
"Senior, tell me, there must be something you can do later." Mashu understood his superior and asked.
"But there is a place that may need you. Not only are they short of manpower, but minors like your brother are also their hope."
Annick thought of the people at Silver Morning Star. Anyway, Bush still has a group of children to raise. One more is not much, and Farley can also help him take care of the children and cook.
"Is there really such a place? Mr. Annick, you are not talking about almshouses and orphanages, right? Then we siblings would rather be apprentices."
Is Brugge's relief and support system so terrible? In the past, little Cole and Barbara, and today's siblings, why do they feel like entering an orphanage is like going to hell?
"It's not that. There is an organization that is short of people, very kind-hearted people, and we have guests every week. Don't worry about that, the most you can do there is cooking and washing clothes."
"Senior, you are not talking about Silver Morning Star, are you?"
"That's them. So, this coming August afternoon, Matthew and I will take you there to see if they are willing to take you in. Not only are you there, but there are also a dozen friends."
"Okay, thank you Mr. Annick."
"I'm going to call you Uncle Annick, so we can get closer to him."
