Chapter 308: The Beginning

"Ayawn."

Annick yawned and returned to his loyal ninth class office.

"Good morning, why don't you two look so good?"

Merlin held a letter in his hand and frowned, while Norbert kept walking beside him, looking very uneasy.

"Here, section chief, I don't quite accept it."

Merlin handed over the letter, and Annick said with a relaxed expression: "The worst-case scenario is that our ninth department will be abolished collectively. If you have no place to go, come and build a car with me."

Merlin didn't say anything, but still pointed to the letter in his hand.

Looking at his performance, Annick knew that it was definitely not as simple as losing his job, so he quickly looked over.

The handwriting on the letter was neat, and you could tell at a glance that it was written by Matthew himself.

It took about a minute or two to scan the content. Annick didn't dare to imagine his eyes, so he rubbed it and read it again.

"Matthew wants to resign? No, he has already resigned and wants to move out of Eggsburg? When did you receive the notice?"

"Just this morning, after she returned to the Clio family's castle yesterday, she came back this morning and made a decision. She asked us to forward the letter she wrote in her own hand to you."

Norbert said a little dissatisfied, and he whispered some words about being rich and forgetting his true nature, and being snobbish.

"Stop, why did she say it?"

Annick still doesn't believe that this is something that Matthew can do. There must be something hidden.

"To inherit her father's title and say it was her parents' last wish, she had to do it."

Merlin explained, then sighed.

"No, her mother died a long time ago, and her father has always been depressed. How could he have thought that his daughter could be found again. What's wrong, Matthew's behavior could be that he was fake or hypnotized."

Annick thought that a psychic psychic like Captain Parker would definitely be able to control people's minds and do some abnormal behavior.

"Look at my sleeves. Such a big cut was made by Mashu's sword. I wanted to question her, but this is what I got."

Norbert showed his clothes, which had a huge long hole.

"It's not like that. To be precise, Matthew seems to have become one with Marlene. In terms of personality and tone of voice, as for control, I took a look and found that her pupils and expression were completely autonomous and she didn't look like she was being controlled by anyone."

After listening to Merlin's words, Annick patted his head.

"So this is a sudden recovery from schizophrenia? Matthew is attached to us, but Marlene is not. Now it is Marlene who controls the dominant personality of the body?"

"Maybe your judgment is right. Do we still need to go find Mashu to persuade her to come back?"

Merlin asked tentatively.

"Let her calm down for a few days, just treat it as a few days off. Let's go together next week to see if we can get her back. By the way, I don't recognize this resignation letter. The format is wrong. I'll give her a supplementary one.

Vacation letter.”

After Annick finished speaking, he stuffed the letter into his drawer and made a decision.

"That's okay. At least three of us will have a better chance of staying together. By the way, I want to drink black tea, section chief."

"Have a drink."

Annick rubbed his head. Recently, he was busy with cars and tracking down the Cross Rose. He never thought that he would be involved in the affairs of these people.

Late at night, most of the streets in the North District of Eggersberg had turned off their lights, and a few horse-drawn carriages were driving slowly on the empty road.

There were several men wearing black cloaks and masks sitting in the compartment of each car.

This small motorcade finally stopped at the Civic Square in the North District, and the carriages formed a small circular formation.

"Click."

The carriage in the center was opened, and a man wearing a black cloak and a drab military uniform stepped out of the carriage. He was holding a silver metal box in his hand.

He looked up at the sky. Two moons hung together on the sky, and the surrounding square was silent.

The attendant next to him brought a bucket, which was filled with clear well water.

"For our freedom, to establish an era where everyone can become a god, and no longer be controlled by the old gods, let's launch a gorgeous rebellion against them."

After the white-haired man finished speaking, he opened the silver-white box and took out a small, simple crown inside.

After he input the magic power, the crown emitted a dazzling light. The man carefully soaked the crown in the bucket, and a cool death breath emanated from it.

Gradually, the transparent well water slowly turned into a light blue like a gem, and the crown soaked in it slowly lost its light.

The people around him hurriedly took out glass bottles with corks and put the water in the buckets into them.

"Let's do it."

The man took back the crown and waved his hand.

The convoy then dispersed, heading towards various places in the North District.

The moonlight from the two bright moons was quietly shining on the earth. One blue and one red full moon hung high in the sky, looking at all this with compassion.

The next day, the Black Church in the North District.

The old tramp successfully woke up from his sleep again. He rubbed his eyes, took out half a cigarette from his pocket, put it to his nose and asked.

"That young man only gave me so many cigarettes."

He smiled bitterly, then lit it with the remaining embers and took a deep breath.

“It’s so comfortable.”

Looking around, there were fewer homeless people who usually gathered together.

Some of them did not survive the winter and were taken away by the church's body collectors on flatbed trucks and burned together.

The remaining people got up early and went to the docks or factories to see if they could find a job. Others, like me, were old and frail and could only hope that some kindhearted people would give them some charity.

"Old man, you're awake. You still have a cigarette. Give me a cigarette."

"Old ghost, that's it."

The old man next to him took away half of the cigarette in his hand and brought a biscuit along with it. He smiled softly and prepared to drink well water for today's breakfast.

He picked up an empty can box and was going to pour well water into it and heat it in the ashes.

"I heard that the river water is poisonous, and the superiors don't allow people to go to the river to get water. The queues at the public taps are so long, so I have to drink well water."

The old man complained while helping his companion pour warm water.

"Thank you. I wonder if we will never be able to open our eyes again that day. I really wish I walked in front of you, so that I don't have to go to the church to call the body collector."

The companion took his share, then found dark, inferior tea powder and added it to it.

"No, why are there still seven or eight people who haven't woken up today?"

The old tramp took a brief look inside the church. There were still seven or eight people lying on the ground without waking up, and the sun was already shining in through the holes in the roof.

"I don't know, maybe a few of them will never wake up again?"

After his companion finished speaking, he drank the liquid that could barely be called hot tea and ate the biscuits.

The old tramp didn't think too much. He picked up the can and drank the warm water in it.
