8, Chapter 8 Enchantment
Mr. Goode stood up, and the hunters who were originally standing against the door also spontaneously made way. The man, who looked exactly like the statue, stepped in calmly. As he walked, a sudden turmoil came from a cabinet in the Archbishop's office, as if something was desperately knocking on the cabinet door.
Mr. Goode opened the cabinet, and a dazzling light immediately appeared in the room. Michel exclaimed in a low voice: "Architect's Scepter!"
The Archbishop's Scepter was as if attracted by something, and quickly rushed out of the cabinet and fell accurately into the blonde man's arms. The blonde man was stunned, and a gentle look suddenly appeared on his face, and his fingers gently brushed across the scepter: "It's so good to see you, old man."
However, he did not hold the scepter in his hand for too long. The man turned his head and raised the scepter with both hands. He took two steps forward and handed it to Mr. Good, and said softly: "But I am no longer the one holding the scepter."
Mr. Goode solemnly took it, but his eyes did not take off the face of the man in front of him. The old man asked in honorifics: "Is Your Excellency Archbishop Leo Aldo?"
"I'm Leo Aldo." The man's voice was still very light, and a few words were spoken, but it made people hold their breath, "Which term is you?"
"Six hundred and thirty-four, Charles Arnold Goode." Mr. Goode put down his scepter, put his hand on his shoulder, and retracted his round belly with difficulty, and gave an ancient gift of meeting. "'The great men who created the most glorious era will always remember their glory'. It has been twenty years since it reached me, and I have never seen it so excited--so, great ancestor, are you a warning from a prophet, or an illusion left a thousand years ago?"
The man who called himself Leo Aldo smiled softly, but just like a statue in the yard, even when he smiled, his eyebrows and eyes always had a strange feeling of sorrow, and his smile flew away: "I am just a ghost guarding the 'enemies', Mr. Goode, please come with me."
The temple has been repaired several times in a small range for thousands of years, but it is also partly open to tourists on the outside. No one can touch the real temple core. There are countless profound magic arrays left by generations. Many of them have been lost now, and it is undoubtedly dangerous to break around casually.
Mr. Goode asked others to wait in the office, and took Scoller, whom Gal and Louis supported him, and the four of them followed the suddenly appeared blonde man into the center of the temple that no one had touched for many years. The man knew all the opening and closing of the magic circles, as if he was walking into his backyard.
They walked through a long, dark passage and followed hundreds of steps to the deep underground. When they landed, everyone was shocked, as if an inaudible sound was directly touching their souls, coming from the depths of the earth.
Gal asked: "What is that?"
"It's the core of the barrier." The head of the Aldo, who was walking in front, explained without looking back, "It's in my tomb."
"Your... tomb?" Louis came to his senses and walked along the way. The historian's eyes were obviously not enough.
"The core of the barrier is in my tomb. If the barrier is destroyed many years later, I will be awakened from the kingdom of death again." Aldo's words seemed to have some magical rhythm, which sounded like a gust of wind swept through people's hearts. "I handed over the scepter to my next man. As for myself, the only mission left is to protect the barrier."
"So, have you lived for thousands of years?" Louis asked.
"The new sword-holding priest?" The man turned around and looked at him, as if he had remembered something, his eyes softened, "No, child, no one can survive for thousands of years. I just injected part of my life and soul into the barrier, and my body was buried forever. As long as the barrier was still healthy, I would not wake up... There was no sound, no feeling, and no light. From a definition, I should have been dead in those years."
"Here." Then he paused and announced softly.
Mr. Good and his friends looked up and found a huge arch in front of them, which was originally tightly closed, but when the blonde man stood there, it slowly opened to both sides. The blue light as blue as the sea came out softly from the gap, and everyone could feel the tremor from the soul.
"This is the core of the barrier."
The barrier is great because it is like another ozone layer with humans, although people living in it have long turned a blind eye to it.
But John was fascinated by the first sight of this world.
It is even more charming than the exquisite porcelain in the Gal's kitchen, more charming than the living room full of chocolate of various flavors, more charming than those transparent glass like crystal, which can refrigerate and heat at will, small boxes that can talk to others thousands of miles away, glowing mushrooms... and so on, and so on, all together make people fascinated.
Everyone he saw seemed so happy.
The air here is not good. According to Evan, it was because of industrial pollution, but there was no smell of blood. The whole world was running peacefully under the influence of the invisible protective film... This was an era when they could not even dream of it.
Taking into account the injuries on his body, Evan did not take him to walk, but drove the car considerately around the mountain. John sat in the "bread" that could run as he wished. As soon as he sat on it, he couldn't help but touch it. When the car started, he was stunned for a while, then lay on the window and looked at the scenery that was quickly retreating outside.
"I've never been in such a stable carriage." He asked, "Brother, how did you get it running?"
After only half a day after Gal and the others left, Evan became familiar with the legendary "Mr. Mysterious Priest" with the name of religion. Because the other party was not mysterious at all, he was lively and curious, and often made some humorous metaphors, cheerful and loving to laugh. When he smiled, his pale face and extremely deep eyes became approachable, almost like a scheming college boy.
Evan said: "Look, brakes, accelerator - as long as you step on this thing, the car will have the strength to run. A steering wheel and automatic gear shifting is very simple, and you will know it soon."
John thought carefully for two seconds: "I don't think I can't step on such a big iron guy with just one foot."
Evan laughed: "Are you kidding?"
"What?" John opened his eyes wide, and then he kept the expression for a moment, and he couldn't help laughing, "Of course I am."
"It's great." He leaned against the passenger seat and sighed, "You guys are so nice."
The smile on Evan's face slowly faded. John's sigh reminded him of Louis's remarks about him. It seemed that the harsh instructor believed that a large part of the reason why the Temple recruited waste like him was for peaceful times.
He suddenly asked in a low voice: "I heard from Instructor Megelt and Gal, you used to be a priest holding a sword, right?"
"In a special period, I'm just a position." John said, "I planned to step down after the war, but who knew that before I could even get here inexplicably."
"Then you must be very awesome." Evan's voice was a little dull.
John turned his head and looked at him.
"My grades have always been bad, probably the stupidest student," Evan showed a little embarrassed expression under his clear eyes. "Instructor Megelt asked me to go back for a make-up exam. I am probably the only hunter in the history of the Temple who will still have to take a make-up exam after the internship period ends."
"Is it because of blood loss due to poor grades?" John asked.
Evan pursed his lips, and he looked extremely frustrated: "This is really a hell, right? If Mr. Goode hadn't been kind, I think I would have been fired long ago."
"Who is Mr. Goode?"
"Mr. Charles Good, he is our Archbishop."
John nodded, he thought for a moment, and suddenly said, "You know... in fact, many people have problems with blood dizziness."
Evan squeezed out a smile: "Do you want to comfort me with this? Thank you, many people are still afraid of caterpillars and mice, but I guess most of them are girls who have not graduated from high school."
"When I was an apprentice in the temple, a classmate also fainted from blood at first." John shrugged, "but then he became an amazing person."
Evan parked his car at the intersection, waited for the traffic light, lowered his head and whispered: "This is impossible."
"I thought it was impossible," said John, "because I actually hate him very much, but later he really became an amazing person. After hearing this bad news, I felt that I couldn't eat it - hey, why did we stop? Oh...what are those round cakes lined up? They still shine red!"
"That's a traffic light. The red light means that the person walking in our direction should stop. It's the person walking in the horizontal direction to pass. When the light turns green, it will turn around to prevent a car crash."
John whistled: "This is such a good idea!"
"Yes," Evan seemed to be a little infected by his happiness. After a while, he asked again, "Does you have to hate me too so that I can become an amazing person?"
"Come on!" John punched his shoulder, and the two of them laughed at the same time.
Then John spent all his remaining journey on fuss. The car had already driven out of the mountain and entered the city center. They were walking on a wide and dust-free highway with well-connected viaducts. On both sides were countless tall buildings that he could see clearly with his neck tilted. Colored glass occasionally refracted the light to the ground and flashed by. There was a huge advertising screen outside the department store, and a blonde beauty was selling cosmetics to the audience, and the crowd was filled with noises.
A young woman was wearing clothes of various colors and walked past gracefully. The man in a hurry walked, holding a small box like Gal and talking to someone quickly. The child chased the hawker selling balloons, and was chased back by his mother and forced to take it away. After crying loudly.
John finally fell silent, and he almost stuck to the car window - there were too many fresh things, and it was too late to ask.
Evan parked his car in the underground parking lot below the mall, went around to the other side and opened the car door from outside, helping the extremely mentally injured patient out.
They took the elevator together. Every time the elevator rose up, John was a little worried, fearing that the little house would fall from such a high place.
Later, they bought clothes together. Because it was not a weekend, there were not many customers in the men's clothing area and there was no need to queue up. After coming out of the clothing area, Evan wanted to give the injured some rest and went to the supermarket by himself, but was firmly rejected.
This older child with ADHD was unwilling to sit down and wait for someone honestly.
In the supermarket, John felt the joy of just picking up things at a place full of goods... Of course, he still had to check out before going out.
