Chapter eight hundred and ninth repetition
In the passage on the other side of the hall was a long, rotating downward staircase. Before everyone completely lost their direction, they finally got rid of the depressing and dizzy steps and entered another stone passage.
The passage is about fifteen feet wide and is about the same height as an ordinary room. Lancelo and his group of seven walked among them. Unlike other areas of this dungeon, the passage here has brass chandeliers on the ceiling, and the interior is filled with constant magic flames to provide soft light to the surroundings.
On the walls on both sides of the passage, there is a dug-out rectangular depression every distance, and there is a quaint sarcophagus in each depression.
"These sarcophagus... seem to have never been opened." Bruto inspected several sarcophagus in succession and announced his discovery to his companions. "The cover is covered with tight stitches. Are we really in an ancient tomb full of undead creatures?"
"What's going on with these skeletons?" Tanya pointed to a corpse in the corner of the wall. "I've seen several such corpses. Did they still know that they would cover the lid after crawling out of the coffin?"
"Well...Milcour's church does have this kind of service. By charging some fees, it ensures that the deceased will not be disturbed after death." Little Isha said embarrassedly, "Cranvoy's church is the Lord of the Dead who inherited from his former deceased, so it will still provide this service, but all church members have an obligation to prevent any evil force from blaspheming the dead's body..."
"That is to say, ordinary people don't have the chance to be buried in such places." Alamil shrugged, "And, under normal circumstances, people in coffins will not wear chain mail and hold long swords and shields, right?"
"You mean, these corpses are other adventurers?" Tanya reacted, "But...what killed them? I didn't sense any danger..."
"I didn't sense anything before the dead-eyed tyrant appeared." Lancelo shook his head, "Be careful."
The passage turned right ninety degrees in front of everyone, and after moving forward for hundreds of feet, it turned a similar left turn. Everyone soon noticed something was wrong. The surrounding scene seemed to be repeated, and the corpses lying beside them seemed to have seen them just now.
"What's wrong." Bruto suddenly stopped and raised his hand to point at a skeleton on the side of the road. "I'm sure I've seen it at least three times... Are we going around in circles?"
"It is also possible that someone deliberately placed the bodies that looked very similar along the road, creating an illusion that we are in circles..." Caralin said with some confidence, "It's a very common trick, but it can really deceive many people..."
"But it's very simple to verify this." Alamil walked to the bone and pulled a piece of bandage to tie it on the bone's shoulder. "We continue to move forward. If we see this bandage again, it means we are indeed going around in circles."
"Good way, I like it."
Bruto slapped his thigh and couldn't wait to walk forward. The passage turned again not far away, and this time everyone was extra careful, so they could easily find another exact skeleton.
"Look, what am I saying?" Karalin sounded much more confident now. "No bandages are enough to prove that my speculation is correct, but it is just a simple trick..."
"Haha, I'm really a scholar, my brain is just smart."
Bruto smiled and joked, and the others breathed a sigh of relief, and Klanslo's brows were still tightly frowned. He took out a blank piece of talisman paper from the small bag around his waist, and his fingers lit up a faint green light, and wrote a simple but mysterious symbol on the talisman paper, then extended the talisman paper to the dwarf and said to him:
"Listen."
"Ah?" Bruto was stunned when he heard this, but he still did, "What is this thing for? Do you ward off evil spirits?"
"Uh, I misunderstood..." Lancelo slapped the talisman paper on the forehead of the skeleton with his back hand, "Your saliva is more sticky."
“…”
"As for this talisman paper, there is a trace of my divine thought on it. As long as the distance is not too far, I can sense its location..."
“How far is it not too far?”
"It's within a hundred miles." Lancelo shrugged, "Of course, the interplane will definitely not work."
"Awesome. So what are you going to do with this? Are you sure how far we have gone next?"
"I want to figure out how we move." Lancelo touched his nose. "Now, let's not move forward first, but go back to the previous bandaged bone... I have something to confirm."
"Go back?" Bruto asked strangely, "Why?"
"You'll know in a while."
Of course, the partners would not be confused about this matter. They immediately turned around and walked back along the way they came. Not long after, everyone "returned" to the place where the previous skeleton was, but unexpectedly, the bandage that should have on the skeleton disappeared. It was in the same posture every time everyone saw it, sitting in the corner of the wall, with weapons and shields thrown aside.
The difference is that from that posture, everyone felt its despair before death.
"This, this, this, this, what's going on?" The young dwarf's voice sounded very bad, "Kalalin? You, you... explain it..."
"I...I don't know either." The scholar also stammered, "Little Isha, do you know what's going on?"
The little girl shook her head quickly, her face turned terrible, and the other friends looked at each other, and no one could tell what was going on.
"As I passed the corner just now, my sense of the talisman paper suddenly broke." Finally, Lancelo said, "Let's look back now and see if the talisman paper I just posted is still there."
The partners set out immediately. A few minutes later, they stood in front of an exact same skeleton again, but just like the bandages tied by the elves before, the talisman paper left by Lancelo was gone, and his spiritual sense could not sense the existence of the talisman paper at all.
"What should I do now?" Bruto looked at everyone in horror, his body trembling in trembling, "Damn it, it's so damn..."
