Chapter 6 Six Fingers

Grandpa looked at me, took out his cigarette pier and lit it, took a sip, and pointed at the bridge with his finger:

"Shimeng was watching us both under the bridge. Just say anything to her here, she can hear it."

After hearing my grandfather's words, I walked to the edge of the broken bridge and shouted loudly:

"Sister! I miss you! Come back soon. Let's go to school together, play rubber bands together, and play hide-and-seek together. Sister, I really miss you..." As I said that, I cried and remembered the scenes of being with her. Every time my sister frys eggs, she always asks me to take the first bite first; every day when I do my homework, my sister always makes the bed for me and tutors me to complete my homework seriously...

That night, my grandfather stayed on the Broken Bridge for a long time before returning.

The next day, before dawn, my grandfather and my dad called me to get up and took me to the Broken Bridge.

When I arrived at the broken bridge, my grandfather handed me a porcelain bowl, then filled it with clear water, and put a small piece of wood inside, so that I could stand on the broken bridge and hold it all the time, so I couldn't move.

"Wang Cheng, remember, once the wood in the bowl sinks, tell me immediately!" After grandpa told me a word, he and my father started to work together. After hiding all the villagers, he retrieved his sister's body and buried it secretly in the back mountain.

After going down the back mountain, my parents went directly to work in the fields, and my grandfather took me back to the village.

After this incident, no one else died in the village and gradually returned to peace. The developer and contractor who came before never appeared again, and even Mr. Yin and Yang Wuliangzi disappeared.

Huanshui Village seemed to have returned to its previous peace again. The only difference from the past is that my sister Qimeng is gone.

There is also the broken bridge above Sanhegou in the village.

Every day when I pass by the Broken Bridge at school, I secretly swear in my heart that I must study hard and become a lawyer in the future, arrest all the evil people such as the developer, contractor and village chief, and help my sister clear up the grievances.

Time passed quickly, and in the blink of an eye it was seven years. There was almost no change in the village in these seven years. That thing went with the wind like falling leaves.

There has never been any developers in the village to build bridges and roads. Everyone has gradually put this matter behind them.

I also grew up from a child at that time and was admitted to a good local university.

In order to support me in school, my parents went to the south to work and make money. Sometimes they didn’t necessarily go home once every one or two years. They didn’t miss home, but were reluctant to leave the travel expenses that cost hundreds of dollars back and forth.

This summer vacation was relatively long, and it took me more than two months to go back to the village with Dapeng from the same village.

After getting off the bus, we carried our schoolbags and walked over the mountains and rivers for more than twenty miles of mountain road, and finally returned to the village.

But just when I walked into the village with Dapeng, I felt something was wrong!

Just after noon, why wasn't anyone sitting there enjoying the cool and chatting under the big locust tree in the middle of the village?

Dapeng also spoke:

"Huh? What's wrong with the village today? Why are all the old men and ladies who like to chat and enjoy the cool breeze have disappeared?"

I didn't say anything. Since I entered the village, my right eyelid has been pounding, and a very bad premonition surged into my heart.

Dapeng's house is close to him, so he goes back first, and I quickly run towards the house.

When I ran to the door of my house, I saw people in the village surrounding my house.

When someone saw me coming back, he hurriedly pointed at me and shouted:

"Look, Lao Jian's grandson is back, don't let him run away!"

As soon as he finished speaking, several relatives of the village chief rushed up and held me down in anger and dragged me into my house.

I yelled loudly while struggling:

"What do you want to do?! Let go!!"

No matter how hard I struggled, they just didn't let go and kept dragging me into the yard and pressing me down hard.

When I arrived at the yard, I found that there were more people, most of them were relatives and friends of the village chief. The village chief stood in the middle, and my grandfather was held down by two people and knelt on the ground. He did not see my parents.

After seeing me, the village chief walked over quickly without saying a word and slapped me twice in the face.

He used his ruthlessness, and I was beaten so hard that I felt my ears buzzing.

"Damn, I see that your family is impatient to live!!" The village chief cursed, as if he was still not satisfied, and put it hard on my face.

"Don't beat Wang Cheng, if you have anything to do, come to me!!" Grandpa knelt on the ground and saw me being beaten, and was anxious.

"Don't hit him?! Damn, Lao Jian, please open your eyes and see how my wife died!! If you don't explain this clearly for me today, I'll let your whole family come with you to bury him!!" The village chief said, pointing at a female corpse lying beside him.

I looked in the direction of her finger. The female corpse had long lost her head and her belly was opened, and it was filled with black cement!

When I realized it, I was so disgusting that I almost vomited it.

Just when I was trying to divert my sight from the female corpse, I accidentally saw a black handprint on the inner side of the thigh of the female corpse.

The handprints were very big, like a man left behind. When you look closely, you actually had six fingers!

So I immediately shouted to the village chief:

"Your wife's death has nothing to do with my sister Qimeng. You can see that there is a black handprint on her thigh, and there are six fingers on that handprint!"

After hearing my words, the village chief turned his head and stared at me with a pair of blood-filled eyes and said in a deep voice:

"I've seen it a long time ago. What can a handprint prove? How do I know how many fingers your sister has? Even if she has five fingers and one handprint, what can she prove?!"

"Since my sister promised her grandfather not to harm others, she would not harm others again. Have you ever thought that my sister Qimeng was not the only one who was killed back then!" I shouted to the village chief.

After hearing my words, the village chief was slightly stunned and said humbly:

"Just... even if it's not just your sister, how can you make sure that my wife wasn't killed by your sister? OK, I won't talk nonsense with you here, think about it, find four, and take these two people away!"

"Wait a minute, I'll say the last thing! If we go and see how many fingers the beggar had on his hand back then, wouldn't the truth be revealed?!" I shouted to the village chief.

The village chief was still unmoved and asked his two nephews to drag me out.

Seeing this, I had an idea and shouted:

"If you can't find out the truth, even if you kill our whole family, you will be the ones who are in trouble in the end! Do you think you can escape!"

After hearing my words, the village chief called out his two nephews:

"Wait for a moment." Then he walked up to me and looked at me and said:

"Since you said that, you will dig out the beggar tonight. Wang Cheng, I, Wang Daming, leave my words here today. If the beggar has five fingers, you will come to my house to collect the body of your grandfather tomorrow!" He said, asking his nephew to let me go, and then asked someone to take my grandfather away.

Seeing the village chief and his group of people leaving my house in a vast way, I went back to the house to take a look at the time. It was less than two hours before dark. I had to hurry up and dig out the beggar's bones before dark!
