Chapter 1533 The Miserable World

There are "four classic musicals" in Europe and the United States, namely "The Cat", "The Phantom of the Opera", "Les Miserables" and "Miss Saigon". These four operas are deeply loved by opera fans and are often performed in New York, the United States and London, England. The box office revenue of the four operas is also very high. Take "Les Miserables" as an example. So far in 2007, the total box office revenue it has generated has exceeded one billion US dollars.

"Les Miserables" is a musical co-written by French musical composers Claude Michel Schoenberg and Alan Boberly. It is adapted from the novel of the same name by the great writer Hugo. The story is set in the 1832 Paris Republican uprising. It tells the difficult journey of the protagonist Jean Valjean being sentenced many years ago and planning to be a new person and change society after parole, but encountering various difficulties.

"Les Miserables" was first performed in Palais-des-sports in Paris, France in 1980. It was later performed in New York, the United States and London, England. It was selected as "the first indispensable musical in the country" by listeners of BBC Radio 2 in the UK. On October 8, 2005, the play celebrated its 20th anniversary at the Queen's Theater in London. It was booked before its release until January 6, 2007, replacing "Cat" as the longest-running musical in the West End.

Les Miserables returned to the Broadway stage in New York on November 9, 2006, and started a limited-time performance on Broadhurst-theatre. It ended on January 6, 2008. A ticket costs more than one hundred dollars, which is multiple times more expensive than a movie ticket. Moreover, this opera is very popular. If you want to watch it, you must book tickets a few days in advance. Temporary tickets are difficult to book.

Today is February 12, 2007, New York time. Just tonight, there is a performance of "Les Miserables" on Broadway. Anne Hathaway booked two tickets a week ago and made an appointment with Han Jiaren to go to see it tonight. Han Jiaren thought that on the evening of February 11, Kim Jingsung needed to attend the Grammy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles. Even if he was going to visit her in New York, he probably wouldn't be there on the evening of February 12, so he agreed to Anne Hathaway. But he didn't expect Kim Jingsung to come tonight.

Han Jiaren was a little "unwilling" and asked Anne Hathaway: "Anne, can't you really buy tickets now?"

Anne Hathaway said in an exaggerated tone: "Hey, I said han-ga-in, what do you mean? I said a week ago that we will go to watch the opera alone tonight. Now your boyfriend is here temporarily. I said I can't buy the ticket. Don't you think I'm lying, right?"

Han Jiaren's face turned red: "No, I also know that tickets for such operas are difficult to buy temporarily."

Jin Jingcheng smiled and said, "Good lady, go and watch it with Anne tonight. Not to mention that you can't buy tickets, even if you can buy it temporarily, I don't want to go to the opera tonight. I'm very tired these two days and want to have a good rest."

The art of opera seems too high for a tall and noble person like Jin Jingcheng. Although Jin Jingcheng had watched several operas while studying in New York, he was really not interested in this art.

Han Jiaren said: "What do you do?"

Jin Jingcheng said: "I will rest by myself in the first half of the night, but in the second half of the night... are you no longer here?"

Kim Jingcheng deliberately said this in an ambiguous tone, which made Anne Hathaway on the side laugh strangely, and Han Jiaren blushed again. Although she was already quite relaxed in front of Kim Jingcheng, she was only limited to when the two were alone and when others were present, she would still feel embarrassed when she was involved in such a topic of men and women.

After a change of topic, Kim Jong-sung looked at Anne Hathaway: "Why did you suddenly want to go to Broadway to watch "Les Miserables"?"

Anne Hathaway said frankly: "I like this opera very much. When I was very young, my mother took me to see this opera. Although I couldn't understand it at the time, I was deeply impressed by it. Later, after I became an actor, I went to see this opera again. This time I understood it and left a deep impression again. Tonight is the third time I went to see this opera."

Jin Jingcheng nodded. He knew that Anne Hathaway's mother was a singer and actress. Anne Hathaway had been deeply influenced by her mother in art since she was a child. Her mother has been teaching and cultivating her to be an actor. Such a mother took Anne Hathaway, who was born and raised in New York, to Broadway to watch opera. It was simply normal. If she didn't do such a thing, it would be strange.

Having said that, when Anne Hathaway was very young, she could leave a deep impression on the opera when she couldn't understand the opera "Les Miserables", which also shows that Anne Hathaway was born with artistic cells and might be born as a woman who is an actor.

The reason why Kim Jingsung suddenly asked such a question was because Kim Jingsung thought of the movie version of "Les Miserables" in his previous life. Kim Jingsung had watched the movie version of "Les Miserables" in his previous life. The heroine was Anne Hathaway. Anne Hathaway had a wonderful performance in this movie. This movie had a wonderful performance at major awards ceremonies, including the Oscars, and brought good reputation and gains to Anne Hathaway.

Kim Jingcheng had an idea and said to Anne Hathaway: "Anne, you said, if I invest in a film version of "Les Miserables" in the future and ask you to be the female lead, what do you think?"

Anne Hathaway was stunned for a moment: "The movie version of "Les Miserables"?"

Jin Jingcheng nodded: "And it's a musical movie."

Anne Hathaway laughed: "Please, don't joke."

"Les Miserables" is not easy to adapt into a movie, let alone a musical movie, and the investment risk of musical movies is very high. Even in places like the United States where musicals are still popular, there are few successful musical movies, let alone a serious musical movie like "Les Miserables".

Jin Jingcheng shrugged: "Do I look like a joke?"

Anne Hathaway looked at Jin Jingcheng carefully: "You... are you serious?"

Jin Jingcheng nodded: "Of course."

Anne Hathaway was excited: "Okay, if you dare to invest, I will dare to act."

For Anne Hathaway, it would be an opportunity and challenge to star in the movie version of "Les Miserables" and it would be a musical movie.

Kim Jingcheng deliberately imitated Anne Hathaway's boy tone and said, "If you dare to act, I will dare to invest."

Anne Hathaway laughed and immediately took the initiative to make a high-five agreement with Kim Jingcheng. She looked like a boy when she slapped her high-five.89
