Chapter 125 The Monk

The Guifeng Mountains under the night are dark and quiet. Apart from the occasional sound of unknown strange birds, there seems to be no one in the huge mountainous area.

Yutai Temple, located halfway up the hillside of Guifeng Mountain, was first built in the Han Dynasty. It was burned to death at the end of the Yuan Dynasty and was later rebuilt during the Zhengtong period of the Ming Dynasty. After the rebuilt Yutai Temple became one of the four major Buddhist temples in Guangdong Province because of its incense. During the Chongzhen period, there were as many as a thousand monks in the temple. Now, there are only a hundred monks in this temple, including the old monks in charge of the temple, most of which are old and weak monks. Most of the buildings in the temple are ruined. The pagoda in the mountain fell to half of the base of the pagoda. The spire on it was shaking and collapsed one day.

Alas, monks cannot avoid the mortal world, and they cannot escape the world. Years of war and chaos have suffered not only the people, but also the monks. Without the incense and worship of believers, there is no entry in this temple, and how can it support so many monks? Don’t talk about repairing the buildings in the temple.

There were a lot of land in the temple, but most of the original tenants either asked the Qing army to arrest the master or the Ming army to arrest the master. The rest were mostly left to take refuge. Without these tenants, the monks naturally could not practice. As a result, the old monk Qilin woke up in the morning and did not recite scriptures and Buddha's name, but told them which piece of land to water and which piece of land to be ploughed today. Sometimes they even even told them to give the fertility on the vegetable fields in the temple...

Every day I think not Amitabha Buddha, but the fact that these ordinary people who looked down upon and did not want to look at them in the past is really hard for the old monk Qilin. Fortunately, no matter how chaotic the world is, monks always have the principle of making a living and close to each other. As long as the temple does not get involved in the outside world, they do not expect that believers will gather, incense will be lush, and worship them in a pile, but they will still be able to keep their own safety. After all, no matter how fierce the soldiers are, they will most likely not be able to wield their swords when they see the monk.

As he gets older, the old monk Qilin can see it openly. Whether it is Ming or Qing, he will have to govern the country after sitting in the country. Throughout history, no one who has been sitting in the country has not governed the country. So now there are those who are fighting around in the Ming and Qing dynasties. You fight here today, and you kill it tomorrow, and you have a lot of fun. But when the overall situation is certain, can the soldiers fight like this? At that time, life will still be the same as before. Otherwise, what will be the goal of fighting the country? As for whether the Han or Hu people are in the country, it doesn’t matter to the old monk. If the Buddha is still a Hu person, how much does it matter if the emperor is a Hu person? Monks, just take care of their own affairs. As long as the Buddha does not punish them, what should I do with other things?

Because I heard from several monks who went out to travel in the temple that the Southern Ming Dynasty was worse than the other day, it was probably a foregone conclusion that the Qing Dynasty was in the country, so the old monk Qilin had the intention to deliberately make friends with the Qing Dynasty officials. It was also strictly forbidden for monks in the temple to have any connection with the Ming army. If one finds, they will drive away one and never be ruthless. Not only that, the old monk also invited the Xinhui magistrate to do a ritual to Xinhui City to save the tens of thousands of innocent people who died tragically during the guarding of the city.

Although he knew that these tens of thousands of people were killed by the Qing army guarding the city, the old monk gritted his teeth and scolded the old man in the city, and did not mention the word Qing army at all. With this attitude, and his old monk Qilin was quite famous in Guangdong, the Governor's Office in Guangzhou also expressed his concern for him. The new Governor Li specially mentioned his "righteous act" of Qilin in the memorial to Beijing, which made the old monk really excited: that was the memorial sent by the Governor to the capital, and that was the memorial to the Emperor of the Qing Dynasty. The name of his monk could sweep away the longan, but it was a kindness of the Buddha. His ancestors had a spirit.

Excited, Qilin ignored his nearly eighty-year-olds. He wondered if he would take the initiative to go to Guangzhou. On the one hand, he thanked the Governor for his encouragement, and on the other hand, he took this opportunity to make a good relationship with the new Governor. After the situation was settled, he also asked the Governor's Office to come forward to help some wealthy families repair the Yutai Temple. After all, the atmosphere in the temple is really not good at the moment, and it is so dilapidated that it is not a place for monks to stay in the place of cultivation.

People need clothes, Buddha needs gold, no matter how much scriptures you recite and how much Buddhist principles you know, it will eventually be less than that of believers to be solemn and practical.

The old monk Qilin understood, who would have thought that he had just thought about going to Guangzhou, but the disaster suddenly came to an end. The large number of people and soldiers who suddenly rushed over from the mountain that day really scared the old monk Qilin and frightened the monks in the temple. Before the monks could ask, the gang of soldiers who fled up the mountain fiercely drove them to the Daxiong Temple. Then, Lord Song, who claimed to be the general official of the Taiping Camp of the Ming Dynasty, claimed to them that Yutai Temple will be taken over from now on, and all the monks in the temple will be taken care of, and all the food in the temple will be taken out for use in Taiping Camp. If there is any disobedience, the Buddhist pure land will be turned into a bloody land!

The robbers who kill the sky, the Taiping Army who kill the sky, and the General Officer of Song who kill the sky!

After seeing the Taiping Army like robbers digging out the food hidden in the temple, the old monk Qilin almost passed away. If his disciple had not slapped his chest quickly, he would have really "died".

When a scholar met a soldier, he couldn't explain it clearly. When a monk met a soldier, he couldn't explain it clearly. Facing the arrogant and unreasonable Lord Song, monk Qilin could only swallow his bitterness into his stomach and did not dare to resist at all. But as his territory was occupied by a large group of broken unruly people, his food was also swallowed by them. The old monk who had been reciting scriptures for decades and worshiping Bodhisattvas for decades was not willing to accept it.

Duke Xiang of Song wanted to cooperate honestly, and he had no intention of killing these monks. After all, he was also a scholar and always respected these monks. In the past, when he encountered a temple, he always went in and worshiped and offered some incense and oil. If the situation was not tense, it was related to the survival of the future camp, he would not treat the monks so ruthlessly, nor would he say harsh words to the host who looked kind and respectful.

A tiger has no intention to hurt others, and a tiger has the intention to kill it.

Duke Xiang of Song had no intention of killing the monks of Yutai Temple, but these monks were intentionally trying to kill him!

Late the night after the Taiping Army's rear camp occupied Yutai Temple, a very inconspicuous monk sneaked out of the hall while the security guards were not paying attention, and then secretly went down the mountain from an unknown path in the back mountain in the dark.
