Chapter seven hundred and twelve

Zhang Chaolin, the governor of Jiangxi of Qing Dynasty, was a member of the Zhenglan Banner of the Han army. After the Qing army entered the pass, he followed Prince Yu Duoduo to Jiangnan, conquered Yangzhou and Jiangyin, and then pacified Hunan, Wugang and Yuanzhou, and then followed Prince Rui Dorgon to attack Jiang Guan of Datong. Like Li Lutai, who died in Guangdong, they were both executors who were stained with blood from the Han people and helped the evildoers for the Qing Dynasty.

Xia Yie, the governor of Jiangxi, was a member of the Zhengbai Banner of the Han army. After he died in the ninth year of Shunzhi, Zhang Chaolin, who was the Minister of the Ministry of Revenue, was moved to the governor of Jiangxi. After serving in Jiangxi for several years, Governor Zhang did the only good thing for the people of Jiangxi to submit a memorial to Nanchang, and the two Ruizhou prefectures were exempted from taxes for three years.

He just ordered the generals Chen Yin and Ding Quangui, who had been with Li Chengdong in the past, had rebelled against the Qing Dynasty after returning to the Ming Dynasty. He also ordered the generals of the city to fight against Ding, and wrote to various places to suppress the rioters and bandits to rebel. Governor Zhang was busy and anxious, but before he could take a breath, the governor's yamen in Nanchang came to Jiangning's special envoy. The envoy was ordered by Lang Tingzuo, the governor of Jiangnan, Jiangxi.

Lang Tingzuo was from Guangning, Liaodong. His father was a scholar in the Ming Dynasty. After the Later Jin Nurhaci captured Guangning, Lang's father went to surrender and was awarded the position of hereditary guerrilla by the Later Jin Dynasty. In the third year of Shunzhi, Lang Tingzuo conquered Sichuan from Prince Su Haoge, pacified Zhang Xianzhong, and moved to the bachelor of the secretariat. In the eleventh year of Shunzhi, he was appointed as the governor of Jiangxi. In the twelfth year of Shunzhi, he was promoted to the position of governor of Jiangxi. The original Jiangxi Governor's Office was in Jiangning. He moved to Nanchang in the ninth year of Shunzhi, but he moved back to Jiangning last year.

The Governor General sent an envoy to come, but Zhang Chaolin did not dare to neglect it and hurriedly asked the envoy what was wrong. The envoy took out a Governor General's order, but asked Jiangxi to immediately allocate troops to rescue Jiangning.

"There are bandits in Jiangning, and there are also long-haired thieves here in Jiangxi. The main force of the green camp asked Admiral Liu to take them to Ji'an. The province was full of troublemakers and people in the provincial capital were panic. How could we have soldiers to save Jiangning! Isn't the Governor be so anxious? It's not like this to seek medical treatment in a hurry!"

The left governor Tong Fengcai, like the governor Zhang Chaolin, were both from the Zhenglan Banner of the Han army. However, Tong Fengcai was the grandson of Tong Yangxing, the founding prince’s prince, and the nephew of Tong Tulai, the current first-class duke. From the relatives and nobles of Manzhou, they were closer to the governor Lang Tingzuo and Zhang Chaolin, so they spoke a little, and were not afraid of offending Lang Tingzuo at all.

The Right Commander Wangting was not a Han army bannerman, but an authentic Han official, so he did not dare to speak like Tong Fengcai. Instead, he sighed and said to the envoy: "The situation in Jiangxi has been sent to the Governor's Office. The Governor should know the situation in Jiangxi. Tens of thousands of troops from Taiping attacked north. Only I, Jiangxi, resisted more than 10,000 troops. Not to mention that it was very difficult, it could not be stopped at all. As soon as Ganzhou was lost, the whole province of Jiangxi was shocked. If Ji'an was lost again, we could not even stay in the provincial capital. I hope the envoy would report to the Governor, that it would be impossible for me, Jiangxi, to send troops to rescue the Governor, but there was no soldiers to send."

"Jiangxi is the place of the four provinces of Yehou. If there is any mistake, the contact between the upper and lower reaches will be cut off. At that time, the Taiping gang can attack Huguang and the lower reaches will enter Jiangnan. The threat caused is no less than that of the pirates. The Governor should understand this very well, but why do you still want me to send troops in Jiangxi? Is it true that there is no way out in Jiangning?"

Zhang Chaolin realized that Jiangning was afraid it was very dangerous, otherwise Lang Tingzuo would not have sent someone to ask for help from him.

After hearing what the governor said, Tong Fengcai hurriedly asked the envoy: "What is the situation in Jiangning now?"

The messenger looked bitter and said, "Several adults don't know that since Zhenjiang fell, Jiangning has been in danger. There are a series of bad deeds in various parts of the south of the Yangtze River. The states and counties in the north and south of the Yangtze River have lost dozens of cities, and some places have even had internal and external information. When the young man came out of Jiangning, the pirates were already at the city. I heard that the pirate leader led a large group of confidants to Zhongshan, picked up the terrain, and led the bandit soldiers, generals and a group of evil gentry from the thief to worship the Ming Taizu in Xiaoling, saying that Nanjing must go down."

"So, Jiang Ning is really dangerous."

Tong Fengcai was a little dazed. He thought that if Jiangning, the Ming Dynasty's companion, was really taken away by the pirates, the Ming Dynasty might be able to turn over.

The envoy was still saying, "There are many pirates, one is pirated on the Shizi Mountain, one is pirated on the Second Mountain, one is pirated on the Yumiao Mountain, and the other is pirated on the Fengmen Road. It also divides troops to pirated on the west gate of Han, connecting dozens of camps. There are also naval troops to pirated on the southeast corner, following the water as a camp, and iron armored soldiers to pirated on the northwest corner of Zha, next to the mountain as a cradle, and connected to Zhusuzhen guard camps. The camps are all equipped with deer antlers, deep trenches and wooden fences, which look very majestic."

Hearing this, Zhang Chaolin suddenly raised his hand to stop the envoy, and then said to Tong Fengcai: "It's so strange that the pirates are building such a camp."

"What does Lord Futai mean?" Tong Fengcai didn't understand the governor's meaning.

"Jiangning City is high and strong, and it is the most powerful city in the world. With the strength of the Zheng bandits, it is impossible to surround Jiangning City. The only desirable tactic is to divide the troops into feint attacks to confuse the city. The main force chooses the weak links of the city to defend and break through in one fell swoop, so that they can get off the city. But the pirates can't figure out this, and instead station the troops so scattered and stationed in such a way, it seems to be a huge momentum and intimidating people, but if he doesn't attack the city for a day, what's the use of these many people? I think the Zheng bandits have been a big bandit for many years, and often fight with the imperial officers and soldiers in Fujian and Zhejiang. It is logically a celebrity on the battlefield. How could they not know the reason for siege? It's really strange."

After hearing this, Tong Fengcai was also surprised and asked the messenger: "Has the pirates never attacked the city for a day?"

The messenger shook his head and said, "When the young man came, the pirates did not move outside the city." After saying that, he remembered something and said, "But the pirates actually wanted to attack the city. The Governor asked the Admiral Guan to send someone to pay for money and surrender, lied to them that our court had a fixed rule. After thirty days, the city would be punished without any crime. Now all the officials and relatives in the city are in Beijing, so I hope that the pirates can give us a month and we should open the door to welcome the surrender in a month."

Tong Fengcai couldn't help laughing: "How can the pirate believe such nonsense? It's because the governor and Admiral Guan thought it out." After laughing, he was stunned because the envoy said it clearly just now that the pirates had no place to move outside the city except for the camp. Doesn't this mean that the pirate really believed the pirates?

"Zheng Zhe really believed it. Not only did he believe in Admiral Guan's words, but he also rewarded the people sent by Admiral Guan. It was easy for him to lead a large army to the lonely city of Jiangning. However, since Admiral Guan and the Governor intend to surrender, he would be granted the mercy so that he could win the world. Of course, Zheng also said that if he did not surrender at the expiration date, he would not leave any grass when the city was broken."

Wang Ting's eyes were straightened, not because the messenger said that Zheng Jun was afraid of leaving no grass at all, but because the thief Zheng actually believed the nonsense of words that children did not believe.

"Zheng thief was too confident. He raised an army from Jinxia and went north. He would win the battle and win the attack. In the battle of Zhenjiang, he killed four thousand Manzhou soldiers. He thought he was invincible in the world. Jiangning was another lonely city. He wanted to take down Jiangning City without losing one soldier."

Zhang Chaolin sneered, stood up and said to the envoy, "You go back and tell the Governor that I have no soldiers to send in Jiangxi, but please rest assured that the thief Zheng is so ambitious that he will definitely not be able to break the city. However, in Jiangxi, the elite thief scholar Lu Shi has also been to the important town of Ganzhou, which is really a big concern than the pirates."
