Five Eight, Counterattack

Both Rudendolf and Hoffman were impressed by the ambitious combat plan of the actual ruler of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and they began to revise the German combat plan. Hindenburg quickly agreed to the combat plan. In essence, they were all of the people with great ambitions and were willing to take great risks for victory.

In the dispute between Hindenburg and Falkenhein, Hindenburg finally won the victory as he wished. The Austrian retreat in Galicia put the German emperor under great pressure. He had to order the 4th Army to be pulled out of the Western Front to strengthen the Eastern Front, and at the same time handed over all the domestic reserves and newly formed troops to Hindenburg.

Hindenburg deployed the 4th Army and the 20th Army formed by the East Prussian local garrison troops on the northern wing of East Prussia. At the beginning of the battle, they will launch an attack on Belarus north of Lake Mazur. The 8th Army commanded by General Belo and the 10th Army commanded by General Echhorn will attack Brest on the south side of Lake Mazur. General Mackenson will command the 9th Army and the 11th Army, mainly composed of the Royal Guards, attacked from Silesia to the Galician area, and then turned north with the Austro-Hungarian army.

Austro-Hungary plans to dispatch all the main forces of the Eastern Front, a total of six armies, together with the Markensen Group, to launch a full-scale attack on the four Russian armies in the Galician region, and the entire Carpathian line was completely handed over to the Hungarian local defense army and the 9th and 10th army.

The current Russian troops are deployed as follows: the 10th Army of the Northwest Front is north of Lake Mazur; the 1st and 2nd Army and the 12th Army are being reorganized outside Warsaw; the 6th Army is south of Lake Mazur, and the 7th Army is being reorganized in Kiev. The 3rd, 8th, 9th, and 11th Army of the Southwest Front is located on the side of Galicia near the German border, while the 4th and 5th Army are attacking south on the Carpathian line, and a huge gap of nearly 150 kilometers appeared between the two major groups.

Lee Haydn placed the 2nd Army, commanded by General Elmoly on the far left, under General Markenson's command.

Lee Haydn and Hindenburg issued an order on April 27 that the entire Eastern Front summer battle will start at the same time on May 1.

In fact, the German and Austrian coalition's mobilization on the Silesia front line was discovered by the Russian army as early as April 25, but General Dimitriyev, the commander of the Russian Southwest Front's Eastern Front, did not arouse much vigilance, nor did he ask for reinforcements from the Russian base camp. He believed that this was just the preparations for the German army before the attack, and he believed that he could deal with a group of Markensen's army. So far, the Russians had never known the establishment of the German 10th and 11th Army.

The Russian army that captured Galicia was enjoying their victory, and food, livestock, women, all became their spoils. A Russian army reporter quoted a sentence from Tolstoy in "War and Peace" to describe these Russian soldiers who were robbing everywhere: "The Orthodox army has become a group of lawless bandits."

The Russian troops in Galicia were scattered everywhere, and many officers could not even find where his soldiers were running. The Russians were collecting spoils everywhere, and a Cossack soldier actually grabbed more than 120 sheep. Now he and several friends have become authentic shepherds.

Even the top leaders of the Russian army were filled with relaxed optimism. The Austrians were so scared that they dared not fight back. It is important to note that the Germans, but their troops were insufficient, and the German army was confined to the French trenches.

A huge danger is coming, but they are confused.

The German and Austrian coalition forces were ready for attack, and their appetite was amazing: they tried to gather the main force of the Russian army into the entire Russian Poland, a natural protrusion, thereby forcing Russia to withdraw from the war.

The 3rd Army commanded by General Boloevich became a sharp knife for breakthrough. He placed the most elite 14th Army at the forefront, including the 3rd Upper Austrian Infantry Division and the 27th Upper Austrian Infantry Division, which were mainly composed of the Germans in the Upper Austrians, and the 3rd Galician Lancer Shooter Division.

Among the Austro-Hungarian army, the most elite troops were the Upper Austrian and Lower Austrian infantry divisions composed mainly of Germans, followed by the Croatian infantry division, followed by the Hungarian infantry divisions dominated by the Magyars and three Tyrol mountain infantry divisions. The combat effectiveness of the infantry division consisting of the Czechs, Poles, Romanians, Slovaks and Ukrainians was relatively poor.

In the winter of 1914, Li Haidn reorganized the Austro-Hungarian army on a large scale, adapting the fourth regiment system of infantry divisions into the third regiment system of infantry divisions, and the first-level army was also changed from two infantry divisions to three infantry divisions. After the reorganization, all the empire's army would have one or two infantry divisions formed mainly by the Germans, Croatians or Magyars. Relatively speaking, the army composed of two German divisions, Croatians or Magyars had strong combat effectiveness and became the main force of the Austrian army's armies.

The advantage of this reorganization is that since at least one division has strong combat power, it is not easy for the entire army to collapse in large-scale defense lines during combat, and the resilience of the army has been comprehensively improved.

Rakowski boarded a cart pulled by three horses, and the company began to set off again.

This time I set off and walked back.

For the past three months, they had been retreating from the Transnistria and back to Moravia, and only experienced some small battles during this period. The whole of Galicia was lost, and the people there were trapped in great disasters. From the escaped refugees, they knew the atrocities of the Russians. The propaganda organized by the military headquarters was everywhere, and now hatred had filled the hearts of these soldiers, who were eager to fight and kill the cruel and fierce Russians.

With a strong revenge mentality, they are now starting to go back and go to the front line.

There are 13 carriages in total, one for each class, and the other is a kitchen squad and supply supplies.

The carriage was driving on the bumpy kilometres, with dust flying.

Rakowski and Bruno squeezed into the worst position behind the carriage, with dust on their bodies, heads and faces, and yellow mud in their nostrils.

"His grandma, why are you so arrogant? Run fast and die quickly!" Several trucks loaded with soldiers dragging gun cars behind them drove past, raising more dust. Bruno spat a mouthful of dusty spit and cursed, looking at the military vehicles that surpassed them with envy and jealousy.

That was the cars of the 27th Infantry Division, which were symbols of the elite troops of the Empire. In second-rate or third-rate troops like the 3rd Galician Lancer Shooter Division, there were few cars, and marching and transportation were mainly based on horse and carriages.

The carriage continued to drive up and down the dusty road, and now the sound of gunfire could be heard vaguely, and they were getting closer and closer to the front line.
