Chapter 14 The Holy Plant Society(1/2)
The sharp wings drifted across the clouds, and the Challenger was like a giant bird hovering above the city of Brana.
Looking down from the plane, you can see golden morning light. The golden sunshine slowly rises in the horizon, and the dazzling sunlight penetrates the thick clouds and illuminates the entire earth.
Mo Yun saw the undulating land, mountains, rivers, and interlaced roads. Highways from all directions gathered at one point, that is the city of Brana. From a high point, the city looks like a huge gray-white shadow lying across the earth, with no edges seen.
"We have contacted the tower control room of Brana Airport and landed in ten minutes."
The pilot's voice came from the speaker.
"After we arrive, we will first find the branch where the organization is here." Connor said.
"Does the organization have branches here?" Leng Shanhong asked.
“We have branches in every city.”
Mo Yun looked down at the city and the height of the plane was decreasing. He could see a flat open space, the planes were as big as matchboxes, the airport was orderly and peaceful. Further away were taller houses inside the city, with gray-white buildings rising from the ground, forming a steel forest.
"They were moving very quickly," Connor said. "After the disaster, they must have closed the relevant ports immediately, carried out large-scale screening, closed roads and traffic, and isolated the source of infection. By now, this place has become a paradise for survivors."
"I guess I will know what the situation is after arriving."
Ten minutes later, the plane slowly landed on Runway 2 of Branag Airport.
As soon as she got off the plane, several young guards in bright yellow shirts came towards her. The leader was a middle-aged white woman in her forties. She was wearing a wide brown long suit and trousers, and her eyes were filled with wisdom and tranquility.
"Welcome to Branagh and Mr. Conner and Lord Execution to Branagh."
"Who are you?" Connor asked.
"I am the leader of the organization's branch in Brana City, Verena." The middle-aged woman replied respectfully.
"Verina...have we met before?" Connor asked.
"I haven't seen it, but I've heard Mr. Conner's name," said Verina.
"Let's go." Connor nodded, "Do you know the purpose of our coming here?"
"Is it for phytochemical disease?"
"That's right."
"Please come with me."
Verina led the way, and Mo Yun and others followed her out of the airport. Along the way, the airport staff who saw Verina bowed to her and kept their heads down and the road was unobstructed.
Several black jeeps were parked on the road outside the airport.
Verina sat in the driver's seat, Connor was sitting in the co-pilot, and Mo Yun and Leng Shanhong were sitting in the back row. The vehicle slowly started and drove onto the highway. Along the way, Mo Yun looked around with curiosity and carefully observed the streets and pedestrians here.
"How can you prevent the spread of phytochemicals so quickly?" Connor asked. "Does there be prophets in your branch?"
"Yes." Verena nodded, "This is our luck."
"What else did she predict?"
"The prophet said that this disaster will eventually be solved by us." Verina said piously with her hands folded.
"Is that?" Connor refused.
Mo Yun felt a deep doubt in his heart. What kind of existence is the "prophet". Is it also a person with special abilities? Listening to this name, the prophet seems to have the ability to predict the future. If so, it is not surprising that this city can prevent the outbreak of phytochemical disease in advance.
The jeep drove across the road and left the airport.
Along the way, Mo Yun saw that there were very few pedestrians around him, and occasionally a few were in a hurry. Every few hundred meters away, you could see a fortress and inspection pass built on the roadside with cement walls. Survivors who came from all directions must undergo a very meticulous inspection before entering Branagh.
Outside the airport is a suburb, but buildings are being built in many places. Cranes and large-scale engineering equipment are running, tower cranes are everywhere, dust is rising, and smoke is formed - they are like passing through a large machinery factory.
"Survivors entering the city must be divided into urban construction teams according to their professions," Vellena explained. "Brana is now very scarce about talents and resources. And with more and more survivors influx, the pressure on the city is getting greater and greater, so we are expanding the city, building forts, and sending a special service team to clean up those plants."
As he was talking, the jeep slowly stopped in front of a checkpoint.
Several young figures wearing green robes and holding submachine guns stopped them.
"What's going on?" Connor frowned.
"I'll deal with it." Verina said with a serious expression, then she got out of the car and negotiated with the young man in the green robe.
A few dozen seconds later, the young man in a green robe and holding a gun walked over, glanced into the car, then nodded at Verina, signaling that they could pass.
The jeep set off again and drove towards the city center.
"It was a normal checkup just now," Verina explained.
Mo Yun nodded slightly to express his understanding.
"You can introduce us to the situation of the city." Connor thought for a while and pointed his hand back, "I forgot to introduce that this is Leng Shanhong, the commander stationed in the branch of the Shangdao Base."
"Hello." Leng Shanhong greeted Verina, who nodded in response.
"As the executor, Mr. Mo actually went out in person. It seems that he attaches great importance to this crisis." Verena said thoughtfully, "Although we have a certain position in the city in the "New Century", we are not in the position of decision-making. Now the city is mainly composed of several forces, and the top one is the Holy Plant Society, followed by us, and then the military and some workers' organizations."
"Reproductive Association?" Leng Shanhong said in confusion.
"No, it's the Holy Plant Society." Verena said, "It's the group of people wearing green robes who stopped us just now. This organization only appeared after the disaster broke out. It was composed of people from all walks of life, with the most members and the greatest voice. They regard the terrible plant as faith, worship it like a god, and regard the only child who can immunize plant spores as a holy child."
"Treat plants as gods?" Mo Yun finally couldn't help but speak.
"Yes, Lord Executioner," Verina said respectfully, "Although it sounds absurd, they do think so."
"Haha...this is normal, too." Connor smiled. "When I first saw the plants covered in the island airport, I was surprised, let alone those ordinary people? If it were a few years ago, I might have joined them without hesitation. After all, in this environment, without faith, it would be like losing hope for survival."
"Yes." Verena nodded, "In the face of disaster, even if there is no Holy Plant Society, other religious organizations will appear. This is the hope of many people."
Leng Shanhong sighed and shook her head.
Mo Yun also frowned slightly. After entering Branagh, it was difficult for him to associate this place with any city he had seen.
To be honest, Branagh is like a city where multi-ethnic peoples live together, a complex mixture. Its city is not small in size, but it is still a little different from an international city like New York. On its streets, there are not only white people like Verena, but also black people, and yellow-skinned people. People of all skin colors live here together. I don’t know if it is this originally, or whether the survivors who fled after the disaster live together.
However, just from the city's appearance and architectural characteristics, this place looks like a European city in reality.
"Have you ever met the Holy Child? What is his origin?" Mo Yun asked.
"See twice." Verena said while driving, "It was all at the sacrificial activities they held. Here, every three days, the people of the Holy Plant Society gathered together to hold common faith activities, worship the Holy Children, and cleanse the sins of the body and soul."
"How old is the Saint Child?" Leng Shanhong asked.
"About eight or nine years old..." Verena said, "We are not very clear about the origin. But I heard that she was a fugitive from the east, and her parents had died in the disaster. Only she had come into contact with the plants for some reason and still survived."
"she?"
"Well, it's a girl." Verina nodded.
Jeeps passed through the streets, and the buildings on both sides of the road gradually became taller. There were more and more pedestrians on the road. Along the road, refugees were sitting on the streets in a down-and-out manner, and some were lying on the side of the road without covering their clothes. But overall, the city order was still perfect and there were no large-scale riots.
After the jeep entered a main road, several armored vehicles came towards them. Heavy machine guns and flamethrowers were installed on the vehicles. The special service members in green uniforms sat in the car with serious expressions and passed by the jeep, like an iron statue.
"This is the special service team that comes back from the mission," Verena introduced. "Double squads like this leave Branagh every day to pick up survivors from surrounding cities, and to clean up plants that may threaten the city."
"But isn't this contrary to the core of the Holy Plant Society?" Connor said. "Isn't it blasphemy for those who treat plants as gods, but the Secret Service is cleaning and killing plants?"
"The Secret Service is the organization we support." Verena sighed. "It is because of this that they are very excluded in the city." She shook her head, "but without them, the safety of the city would no longer exist. Some people in the Holy Plant Society understand this."
"So that's it." Connor nodded.
"Where are we going next?" Leng Shanhong asked.
"You are struggling to get on a boat, so why not take a break first." Verena said with a smile, "I'll find a place for the three of you to live in, and then you can eat something, tidy up, and understand the local situation by the way."
"Okay." Mo Yun supported his chin with his hands and stared at the flowing street scene outside the window.
He also understood that when a person first entered a strange environment, it takes time to adapt to the surrounding environment. Many high school students who left home will feel at a loss when they first entered university; many people who left their hometowns to "drift in Beijing" and went to work outside the country often feel lonely and helpless on many quiet nights. This is a very normal phenomenon, and food is a way to help people better adapt to the environment.
This may be because, from a conceptual perspective, eating is associated with "home" in people's subconscious mind.
At the same time, he also needs time to adapt to the environment of the city and learn more about intelligence. As the saying goes, only by knowing oneself and the enemy can you win every battle. According to the current situation, the forces in Brana City are complicated, and it should not be easy to get in touch with the saint children.
So, it’s better to slow down the pace and take it slowly step by step.
Twenty minutes later, the jeep was parked outside a glass exterior building about fifteen stories high.
"Where is this?" Connor asked.
"This is our headquarters," Verena said.
“Where do we live?”
"I have arranged a room on the fifteenth floor for you three, which overlooks the entire city." Verena smiled, "In addition, there are restaurants below the third floor here. You can choose a place to taste it. Although the whole city has a shortage of food after the disaster, because we are supporting the special service, we are given priority to supply our food and supplies."
"Very good." Mo Yun nodded.
"I'm really a little hungry." Leng Shanhong whispered from the side.
Several people walked into the building and walked through the marble-paved hall. They saw the lively scene around them. There were restaurants below the third floor. There were gates on all sides of the hall, and people kept coming in and out, and many people came here to have dinner. The surrounding shops were open, and the store looked very neat and clean, and there were endless guests inside.
"What to eat?" Mo Yun asked Leng Shanhong.
"Eat rice." Leng Shanhong looked around and pointed to a small shop on her right. "There are people selling curry rice here... I want to eat..."
"Yes." Mo Yun nodded.
"Really?" she asked.
"Lady first." Mo Yun said with a smile, "Connor, where are you?"
