Chapter 36 Classics and Learning

The "Tao Moral Sutra" is divided into the first chapter of "Tao Jing" and the next chapter of "Tao Jing". The full text has more than 5,000 words, totaling 81 chapters, which are combined with the number of nine or nine. This true sutra can be used to explain Zhao Ran's impression of reading a book - mysterious and mysterious! The so-called subtle words are by no means false words.

Each sentence can express many layers of meaning, which is connected with the front and back, and can express many meanings, and then connect to the context, and extend different understandings. Before Zhao Ran travels through time, he is busy watching the excitement, but later he travels through time and comes to this world. He wants to see a trick, but it is not that simple.

To give the simplest example, Zhao Ran looked at a familiar sentence: the heaven and earth are not kind, and treat all things as straw dogs; the sages are not kind, and treat the people as straw dogs. According to the literal understanding, it means that the heaven and earth have no kind heart, and treat all things as straw dogs; the sages should not have a kind heart, and treat the people as straw dogs.

Contact the following text - between heaven and earth, it is still swaying! It is empty but unyielding, moving more and more. It is better to keep the middle than to talk more and count more. The meaning of the words is as if the rules of the word are cold, indifferent, empty, without any emotion or bondage. If you want to touch its laws, you must also uphold the heart of nothingness - the heaven and earth are like a large airbag, empty but will not collapse, and they will never collapse during operation. The more you say, the less you can express it. Therefore, "it is better to keep the middle" - it is better to keep the emptiness to respond to all changes.

Just a few short sentences, the more I think about it, the more I feel that there is still a sense of aftertaste. The more I think about it, the more profound it becomes. Zhao Ran reads many novels describing Taoism before traveling through time. He often quotes this sentence, and then angrily lets the protagonist use his tricks, or thinks that the protagonist fights with the sky. In fact, it is a mistake. Whether he takes revenge in anger, or chooses to fight against the sky, it is contrary to the original meaning of this sentence - the best way to seek Taoism is to stick to the empty and not mind, which is the so-called "not happy with things, not sad with oneself."

This sentence should be the annotation of "Taishen Forget Love"? Zhao Ran was not sure, and he suddenly remembered Buddhist thoughts again. Isn't this the source of "emptiness"? No wonder Taoists have been accusing Buddhism of being a rebellion of Taoism...

Zhao Ran was so immersed in his mind that he felt dizzy and his eyes turned black. He didn't dare to think deeply anymore, and he let out a long breath of turbid air, forcing himself to look at the "My Moral Sutra" with a simple heart - well, just treat it as reciting famous quotes, or exam outlines for later generations, which would be easier.

After reciting the first ten chapters, Zhao Ran encountered difficulties. It is not a problem to memorize each chapter in a few simple sentences, but it is not easy to memorize it smoothly, because these scriptures seem to be more aphorisms that the old man said casually, as if he would say whatever he thought of and say whatever he thought of. Each chapter is divided and there is no clue in the mess.

But if you really think so, it is not the case, because if every sentence that follows is not as a prelude to it, it will become increasingly difficult to understand.

Well, Zhao Ran admitted that the first time he was seriously studying the "My Moral Sutra" he suffered setbacks and was completely defeated, and nothing was left in his mind except a pile of paste.

In the following days, Zhao Ran went to the library to read books every night, and the result was a sadness. He thought he had understood a lot of the content, but he didn't dare to think about the deep meaning of it. After thinking clearly, he would definitely trigger a deeper next layer, and then continue to think about it, making him think almost vomit blood every time.

After many days of continuous development, Zhao Ran couldn't stand it anymore and went to seek advice from Yu Zhiyuan. When he talked about his own experience in great distress and mentioned several problems he had encountered, Yu Zhiyuan looked at him with a strange expression for a long time and asked, "Are you all the things you thought about?"

Zhao Ran smiled bitterly: "What else can you do if you didn't think about it yourself? No one will give me some advice..."

Yu Zhiyuan was silent for a while and bowed, "Brother, I am not as good as me!"

Zhao Ran didn't know that because of his vision from another world, his understanding of scriptures was already very profound and broad in this world. Even talented Taoist priests like Yu Zhiyuan have never thought about the issues he considered. For example, where does the origin of the universe come from? What is the relationship between time and space? How many people in this world have read similar popular science articles?

But Yu Zhiyuan also has his own strengths. Compared with Zhao Ran, his advantage lies in his loyalty in his faith. He quickly put aside the "chaotic" ideas that Zhao Ran had poured into his ears and pointed out Zhao Ran: "It is not the right way to read the "Taoyi Sutra" without reading the "Siye Notes"" - What is the reason for you to read the sutra or not?

Well, Zhao Ran patted his forehead. This was really negligent. The simplest common sense of people in this world is not so natural for Zhao Ran, and it is not surprising that he neglected it.

"Laozi Xianger Notes" was written by the Taoist ancestor, Zhang Tianshi. It is incredible to enter the Taoist sect without reading "Yan Er Notes". But Zhao Ran is a time traveler. To put it bluntly, he lacks awe for Zhang Tianshi in his heart, and he cannot blame him if he can't remember it.

So, Zhao Ran began to read "I Want to You Notes" again.

"Laozi Xianger Notes" is Zhang Tianshi's explanation of the old man's "quotation" and makes annotation for each sentence to let people understand what the old man wants to say. Zhao Ran roughly read it and soon gained something.

There are ten thousand people with ten thousand understandings about the "True Sutra of Morality", so which one is correct? Obviously, Master Zhang Tian believes that his understanding is closest to the old man's original intention.

Simply put, Master Zhang Tian proposed that to uphold the Tao, not only to uphold the Tao heart, but also to observe the Tao precepts, that is, to conform to the heavenly way in terms of behavioral norms. Zhao Ran believes that this is the basis for Master Zhang Tian to establish the Tao. Without the Tao precepts to maintain the upper and lower levels, there would be no Taoist existence - the Taoist sect is an organization, and practicing Taoism is just a means. Practicing Taoism may be able to trace the infinite element, but the birth of the Taoist sect began with Master Zhang Tian.

With the Taoist sect and people joining this organization, they have to come up with some sweetness, right? In "Yan'er Notes", Mr. Zhang Tian explained the method of immortality, that is, the method of practicing Taoism, which is the most important way for the Taoist sect to inherit the romance and tradition. However, Zhao Ran felt that the "Tao True Sutra" talks about tracing the origin of Taoism, and forcibly linking it with the method of immortality will seem very awkward.

For example, the old man has already said that Tao is nothingness, there is no distinction between good and bad, and there is no thought of good and evil. However, Master Zhang Tian’s comments, “The Tao sets birth to reward good, and death to be threatened and evil”, and also said, “Immortals fear death, believe in Tao and keep sincerity, so they are in harmony with life.” Then Zhao Ran couldn’t help but ask, since there are rewards and punishments, there must be a distinction between likes and dislikes. Isn’t this saying that the way of heaven has thoughts? It is not contradictory to what the old man said? Therefore, Zhao Ran’s understanding is that the "Tao Jing" is a writing to understand the way of heaven. Perhaps when practicing to the depths, he can understand the method of ascension from it, but that belongs to the highest level and is definitely not something that ordinary practitioners can study.

In addition to the method of immortality, Master Zhang Tian also talked about what ordinary people should do. After all, there are a few people who are qualified and talented, and the talented people should participate in the practice of Taoism. What are the remaining people? Master Zhang Tian continued to explain the rules of secular rule by explaining the old man's words, what should the king do, what should the ministers and officials do, and what should the people do. That is, "The ruler in governing the country is to cultivate virtue, loyal ministers and support the Tao, the Tao is full of virtue, and peace is coming, and officials and people admire it, and it will be easy to govern!"

Therefore, the Taoist sect established the operating rules of the secular royal court, and supervised them with the jungle of ten directions, and used the heaven and earth in all directions as tribute to the Taoist sequel.

Zhao Ran was not afraid to think with the greatest malicious intention. Perhaps in terms of the worldly Taoist sect, the "Tao Moral Sutra" is not the most important classic, and the true core classic should be "Yaner Notes". From his perspective, Zhang Tianshi's annotations on the old man are purely religious. It is precisely because the world's understanding is unified from the perspective of religion that the Taoist sect exists.

Well, no matter how wild thoughts are, Zhao Ran has already penetrated into the Taoist sect, so he must integrate into this ideological system. Even if he doesn’t agree with it in his heart, he must continue to write the articles on the surface, just think that they are reading the test questions and standard answers for this life.

Starting from reading "Yan'er Notes", Zhao Ran finally began to enter the path.
