Chapter 56 Ammunition Depot

The troops quickly launched an action, and the first thing they had to do was of course to capture the 581 Highland.

However, everything is easy to remember and difficult to do. When we crawl into the high ground in the dark, we realize that it is not as simple as we imagined to win 581.

The main difficulty comes from climbing up the 581 Highland... The two mountain roads that originally led to the 581 Highland must not be able to walk, and the Japanese invaders could not be at all prepared. On these two mountain roads, they must have buried mines or hidden whistles.

You should know that the secret whistle is not so easy to find and unplug it... This is a high ground, and the high ground will inevitably have some high protruding rocks or some insurmountable broken walls. The secret whistle of the Vietnamese army often lurks in these locations.

A secret whistle like this is the most difficult thing, because even if you find it, you can't do anything about him... the front is insurmountable, right? Unless you can fly over the eaves and walls quietly like a spider. At the same time, you can't use guns to blow them with cannons... This will give all other Vietnamese troops warnings, and the secret whistle will also play a role.

Therefore, when encountering such a secret whistle, you can only detour, but if you detour, you may encounter more mines and more secret whistle, and then you have to continue detour... The result will only be that there will never be a road to detour.

Fortunately, we are very familiar with the terrain of the 581 Highland... After all, we have been working on it for more than a month, and we can say that we are very clear about every path and every stone here. In addition, we did not destroy the fortifications on the highland when we evacuated... The Japanese devils thought we were here without rushing to destroy it.

The situation at that time was indeed in line with what the Vietnamese army thought of "no rush to destroy"... Our army was attacking on the front, and Vietnamese troops were encircling through minefields on the side... We were likely to be surrounded by the Vietnamese army as long as we took one step late.

Therefore, the Vietnamese army was sure that these relatively well-preserved fortifications were because our army had no time to destroy them, so they were very confident to use them.

This makes it much easier for us.

First, of course we remember the tunnels we built ourselves and where the traffic trenches were, which means we know the location of the Vietnamese army.

Secondly, the Vietnamese army uses our fortifications with confidence, which means that the explosives we buried under the fortifications can play a greater role.

So we immediately touched the two sides of the highland with our familiarity with the 581 Highland.

At that time, our troops were deployed as follows: the first row, the second row touched up from both sides, and the third row was ambushed at the foot of the mountain to fight against Vietnamese reinforcements.

I took the second row to climb up the right side of the high ground... Although this high ground is difficult to climb, we know where it is not easy for the enemy to discover it, so everything goes very smoothly. The only danger is that the new recruits under my command were too nervous, so they stomped over the stones several times and caused quite a lot of movement. Fortunately, here is not far from the battlefield ahead, and there are gunshots and cannons from the Vietnamese Japanese everywhere, so it did not arouse the vigilance of the Vietnamese army.

After climbing halfway up the mountain, I found the previously buried fuse in the pile of rocks, so I notified the troops to enter the combat position with a secret code via radio...

The so-called combat location is actually close to our own tunnels... Because we are very familiar with the locations of these tunnels, it is not difficult to do this. The difficulty lies in not letting the Japanese invaders discover... The reason is that the Vietnamese army does not seem to be satisfied with the tunnel fortifications we built. Except for a few of them inside and outside the tunnel, most of them sleep on tents outside the tunnel.

"Fuck!" Seeing this, I couldn't help but curse: "This Vietnamese army is the Fifth Infantry Division, the former Nanyue troops! The Nanyue troops are trained by Americans... They are not as accustomed to enduring hardships and hiding tunnels as the North Vietnamese army! Why didn't I expect this?"

But then I thought about it and felt that these Vietnamese Japanese were really bold enough... You know, this inclined plane is a forward inclined plane for our army. Aren’t they afraid that our army will cover them with artillery fire?

Then I quickly figured out that the tents of the Japanese devils were built outside the tunnel entrance. They used the tunnel as anti-cannon holes... They hid in quickly once they were shelled!

So I knew what to do.

"Marx!" I whispered behind me, and Marx would soon climb up.

"Give them a few shells!" I said.

"What? Cannonball?" Marx's eyes were full of doubt. We were doing sneak attacks... Didn't this shooting reveal the intention to attack?

"Execute the command!" I said, "Don't hit it correctly, just spread it and hit it for five or six shots!"

"Yes!" Marx responded and called in a low voice with a walkie-talkie.

At the same time, I ordered each of them: "In a few minutes, our army will be bombarded. All units should be kept in a concealment. No guns are allowed or raised, and wait for the order to attack!"

"yes!"

"yes!"

...

After a while, a few roars came from the sky. Then there was a loud "boom" sound... Several shells exploded around the 581 Highland.

The Yue Japanese responded soon... They first crawled out of the tent with guns and saw that there was no movement and quickly relaxed their guard. Then... when several more shells came, the Yue army, who looked like an officer, shouted: "Enter the tunnel! Enter the tunnel..."

This is what I hope to see... The Vietnamese army treats the tunnel as an anti-cannon hole, right? Then I will give them a few shells to let them get in by themselves!

So the next second I lit the fuse to the tunnels and ordered to the intercom: "Be ready for battle!"

Of course the soldiers knew what to prepare for, so they took advantage of the Vietnamese army and approached their target in the dark when they were busy entering the tunnel.

After a few minutes of annoying waiting, I heard a dull "boom", accompanied by a dull sound, and then a dull sound... Because the length of the fuse is different, the time for explosives to explode in each tunnel is different. Therefore, the time for the soldiers to take action is different.

The same thing is... there were several soldiers guarding outside each tunnel entrance. They just waited for explosions and screams to come from the tunnel. Then they rushed in with guns and then fired a fire.

So the gunshots, explosions and screams soon became lively. The Yue Japanese seemed to realize that they had been fooled, but they had no choice...

Have you rushed out of the tunnel? Our people have long used firepower to block the tunnel entrance. They rushed out and died.

Don't rush out of the tunnel? Their result is waiting for the explosives to explode inside...

I believe that these Japanese devils will not understand why there is explosive under their butt until they die, nor why they exploded at this time... But one thing is clear, that is, their doomsday has come!

So the tunnels were cleaned up very smoothly by us. Fortunately, I felt that the amount of explosives we buried before seemed to be not much, and it just happened to blow the Vietnamese army in the tunnel and lose its ability to resist, but did not cause serious damage to the tunnel.

Among them, only two small tunnels were blown up, and there were three small tunnels. For some reason, the explosives inside did not explode... Maybe it was because the explosives were damp or the fuse was damp, but no matter what it was, we were small tunnels that were easy to deal with, so we just threw a few explosives into them and completely exploded.

Of course, after this battle, the tunnel was filled with blood from the Japanese devils... This will also make us uncomfortable.

Then we quickly expanded the results to the top of the mountain based on these tunnel fortifications... There are two newly established machine gun positions by the Yue Japanese on the top of the mountain. When they found something was wrong, they fired balls of bullets on the slope regardless of the situation... But this purposeless strafing is tantamount to seeking death. This will not only not kill any enemy but also expose their own position.

So, after Marx summoned a shell and blasted the top of the mountain, we easily controlled the 581 Highland in our own hands.

Some people may say...How could this artillery fight so accurately in this dark night?

You know, we have been holding on this 581 high ground for more than a month. Not to mention the coordinates and orientation of the position on the top of the mountain, even the important location of the reverse slope is recorded in Marx's book. All the artillery needs to do is adjust the elements based on these data, and then load and fire the gun...

After the battle, the casualties were counted... Only two soldiers died under the grenades that the Vietnamese devils pulled before their death, and the remaining ten people suffered only a slight minor injury.

Originally, I thought this kind of battle was quite good. When fighting, there will always be casualties. It is worthy of pride in the battle of a high ground and a nearly company of Vietnamese troops at such a small casualties and costs.

However, I soon knew that the result was not just that...

"Company Commander, Company Commander..." Li Zuolong shouted at me on the intercom, "You should come here to see...the cave halfway up the mountain!"

"What's wrong?" I asked on the walkie-talkie: "Is there a Vietnamese Japanese stationed?"

I know this cave. There were two, one at the foot of the mountain, but because it was our ammunition depot, it could not be taken away when retreating, so it exploded... The other was located halfway up the mountain. Because it was far away from the top of the mountain, it could not play any role, so it was just sent two soldiers to guard there before.

"It's true that there are Yue Japanese guards!" Li Zuolong said: "But we have solved it..."

"What else do you think?" I couldn't help but wonder.

"There are ammunition everywhere here!" Li Zuolong replied: "There are piles of rifles, machine guns... everything is available, all American!"
