Chapter 77 The first battle

The war broke out as expected by all parties.

After the formation of the Egyptian army was completed, the two armies entered Ethiopia from Sudan in two groups.

Today's Sudan can basically be regarded as Egyptian territory, but it is still nominally an Anglo-Egyptian condominium. Therefore, the Egyptian army directly traverses the entire Sudan, and even the logistics supply base is placed directly in Sudan.

After the two armies entered Ethiopia, they were not marching very fast. On the front line, only Ethiopian troops were still fighting against the Italian invading army.

This is not because Chen Mo is trying to preserve his strength, or waiting for Ethiopia to offer better conditions, but because the traffic conditions in Ethiopia are really not ideal, and the Egyptian army is not advancing as fast as expected.

When people mention armored assault, the first thing they think of is Guderian's Blitzkrieg in Poland and the Tour de France tank racing competition in World War II, or the Soviet Union's steel torrent during the Cold War.

But if you study carefully, you will find that Guderian's blitzkrieg was based on the German army's perfect logistics support system and sufficient material supply at that time.

Moreover, the rapid advance of armored forces is closely related to various factors such as terrain and environment, and the loss of equipment in harsh environments is particularly serious.

Otherwise, the memoir written by Tiger King Otto Karius would not be "Tiger in the Mud".

Contrary to what many people imagine, the advancement of armored forces does not rely on armored vehicles themselves. Short-distance raids or marches are fine, but if long-distance marches are to be carried out, road and rail transportation must be used.

Because the vehicles equipped by the armored forces have a service life, and there is also the issue of fuel supply.

Although all the vehicles equipped by Chen Mo for the two armies were designed based on the suitability of the Egyptian desert terrain and have relatively good passing capabilities even in Ethiopia, they still have a relatively high failure rate.

, and the troops' fuel supplies are not sufficient.

As a time traveler, Chen Mo certainly knows the importance of logistics.

Otherwise, he would not let the troops establish a logistics supply base in Sudan to transport supplies to the frontline troops.

But it's okay in Egypt. Thanks to the efforts of the undead workers in recent years, a large amount of infrastructure construction has given Egypt a relatively good transportation network, which can quickly transport materials or troops to where they are needed.

Because there is a railway built by the British connecting Egypt and Sudan in Sudan, supplies can be transported in a timely manner.

But the same cannot be said for Ethiopia. Its domestic infrastructure can only be said to be unsatisfactory, and it does not even have decent roads.

Not to mention the rapid advance of the armored forces, it can only be said that the logistics materials can be transported to the front line in time. If Chen Mo had not equipped the two group armies with quite complete logistics and transportation vehicles, I am afraid that this would not be possible.

.

Fortunately, although the two armies advanced slowly, they arrived at the battlefield before the Ethiopian defense line collapsed and quickly launched a fierce attack on the Italians.

During this period, although tanks, armored vehicles and other mechanized equipment had been invented and equipped to the troops, tactics were still in an exploratory stage.

In Germany, Guderian had already figured out his theory of blitzkrieg and armored assault, but he had not yet practiced it on the battlefield.

Regarding the use of mechanized troops, the Germans are undoubtedly at the forefront of the world, but the Italians are obviously lagging behind.

Even though they have far more advanced weapons and equipment than the Ethiopian army, they have made little progress under the stubborn resistance of the Ethiopian military and civilians.

Even on local battlefields, the Italians could not even defeat the Ethiopian army, which was still equipped with World War I-era equipment and cold weapons.

So when the Egyptian army entered the battlefield and launched a fierce attack on the Italian army that they had never dreamed of, the Italian army was stunned almost instantly.

Light tanks and wheeled armored vehicles manufactured with technology that was at least half a century ahead of this era destroyed the Italian defenses almost by crushing them.

While the Italian tanks were still slowly entering the firing position and stopping to adjust the turret for aiming, the Egyptian tanks had already charged towards them with charging speed and momentum, and completed aiming and shooting during the charge.

While the Italians were still waiting for the tanks to stop and take aim, they destroyed them all.

The 75mm smoothbore cannon equipped with a two-way stabilizer allowed these tanks and armored vehicles to rapidly advance and fire at the same time. This really shattered the Italians' outlook and also destroyed their only resistance.

After all, looking at the tanks and armored vehicles that started racing and shooting at 50 mph on the battlefield, as well as the tanks that would be destroyed almost as soon as they stopped, and the scene where the artillery shells clearly hit the opponent, but the shells were directly bounced away,

What little morale the Italians had left dissipated in an instant.

"These Italians really can't help but fight. I thought we could at least have an armored duel! This is worse than a video game!" Major Anderson complained while sitting in his command vehicle, looking at the Italians who had begun to put up white flags.

While standing, he picked his ears with his hands: "Each car reports the situation!"

Just now, a shell hit the front face of his light tank. Although the shell bounced off, the vibration and sound still caused serious damage to the ears of the occupants in the vehicle.

Fortunately, although his ears were ringing for a while just now, it is basically no serious problem now. Major Anderson clearly heard the situation reported by his troops. There were only some infantry casualties in three armored companies and one tank company.

The Italians could only inflict so much damage to Major Anderson's troops during the battle. The modern tank armor built with the technology of the "biochemical" world was not something that these World War II-era artillery fire could penetrate.

Although Egypt's industrial capabilities are not yet able to produce too advanced weapons and equipment, there is still no problem in getting some simple composite armor and making the front face of the tank into a wedge-shaped armor.

These technologies that have already passed the test of war have naturally greatly improved the defense and survivability of the Egyptian armored forces, allowing them to achieve a brilliant record of complete victory in their first battle as an army.

No tanks or armored vehicles were lost, and the infantrymen who coordinated the attack suffered minor casualties. The Italians were overturned in their entire position, and destroyed more than a dozen tanks and most of their artillery positions.

This brief firefight not only shocked the Italians and Ethiopians, but as this battle report spreads, this achievement will also shock the entire world.
