Chapter 7 Despair (1)

Chen Qing led more than 130 soldiers into the woods.

The moment we entered the woods, everyone felt like crawling back from the underworld.

Chen Qing's horse fell to the ground, foaming at the mouth, and looked like it was dying.

Wu Commander Yang Huaben stepped forward and suggested: "Dutou, through the woods, on the mountain on the other side of the river is the Erlang Army Stronghold."

Seeing that the soldiers were a little lax, Chen Qing shouted urgently: "The enemy is coming, don't rest, continue to evacuate north!"

The soldiers steeled themselves again, stood up and ran.

"Du Tou, Liu Wu can't survive!" Zhao Xiaoyi shouted sadly from behind.

Liu Wu's lower abdomen was pierced by a spear, his intestines were hanging out, and the blood was almost drained. He persisted until now. When he entered the woods, when his will relaxed, he could no longer hold on.

Chen Qing knelt down to bandage his wound and comforted him: "You're fine, it's just a minor injury. Don't think too much."

Liu Wu's chest was heaving violently, and he was already in a dying state. He held Chen Qing's hand tightly and begged: "Du Tou, please...please do something!"

"you say!"

"Please tell my son that his father did not embarrass him. He died for the country. You must tell him..."

Liu Wu couldn't catch a breath, tilted his head and stopped breathing.

Chen Qing restrained the tears in his eyes, stretched out his hand to close Liu Wu's eyes, and nodded, "I will definitely do it!"

"Botou, they are coming!" A soldier pointed out of the woods and yelled in terror.

Just hearing the thunderous sound of horse hooves, a Jurchen Ranger Cavalry of several hundred people appeared a hundred steps away.

Chen Qing struggled to lift Liu Wu's body into the mud ditch nearby, and the thick mud swallowed the body.

"let's go!"

Chen Qing led the rest of the soldiers and ran deep into the woods.

Not long after, three hundred Jurchen cavalry rushed through the woods like a strong wind. They controlled their horses skillfully and galloped through the woods like flying.

As the Jurchen cavalry galloped, they drew their bows and arrows, and shot sharp arrows at the lagging Song soldiers. Some soldiers kept screaming and fell to the ground after being hit by arrows.

Many Song soldiers were seriously injured and could not run fast, and eventually died under the arrows of Jurchen cavalry.

Seeing more and more wounded soldiers being shot, Chen Qing was heartbroken. If this continued, they would all be killed soon.

"Look up!" Zhao Xiaoyi suddenly pointed at the tree and shouted.

Chen Qing saw two huge beehives hanging on the big tree in front of him, like two giant lanterns hanging on a branch.

Chen Qing's eyes lit up, this was a good idea.

Zhao Xiaoyi said quickly: "Let me do it! I have been able to deal with them since I was a child."

"Be careful!"

Zhao Xiaoyi was very flexible, climbing up a tree like a monkey, tearing off his military uniform and covering his face and neck.

He waved to Chen Qing, who turned around and ran away.

In a moment, three hundred Jurchen cavalry arrived. Zhao Xiaoyi slashed with his sword, and two huge beehives fell together with the branches...

Zhao Xiaoyi turned around and hugged a thick branch. The wide branch blocked his thin body.

'Poof! Poof!'

Two giant beehives fell heavily among the cavalry. Next to them was Wanyan Alu. The dense wasps rose into the air and pounced on the surrounding cavalry.

The war horses neighed in fear, their front hooves raised high, and the cavalrymen covered their faces and ran away.

The chasing Jurchen cavalry quickly became a mess, and the cavalry behind them reined in their horses one after another, looking at bewilderment at the wild bees flying in the woods.

Seizing this opportunity, the soldiers of the Song Army rushed out of the woods, ran towards the river, and jumped into the river one after another. There were two mountains in front of them, and the river flowed through the two mountains.

The river was about ten feet wide, and it was already the dry season. The middle of the river was only over the knees, but the current was still very fast. They had too many wounded soldiers. The soldiers were exhausted from fighting and running, and it was difficult to walk in the river.

But it was easy for the enemy's cavalry to cross the river, and with their powerful bows and arrows, they would all be shot dead at the foot of the mountain before they could get up the mountain.

If there could be another thing like a hive to hinder the opponent a little, they could escape this disaster.

Chen Qing's brain was spinning rapidly. He was looking for a simple and effective way to block it.

Historically, the most effective way to deal with war horses was caltrops, but what about others? Tripping horse ropes, trapping horses in pits...

'A trap!'

Chen Qing thought of it like a flash of lightning in his mind.

This is the most suitable method for the current dilemma, simple and effective.

"The injured soldiers go first, the uninjured brothers follow my arrangements!"

Chen Qing led dozens of soldiers to quickly dig dozens of deep pits with daggers on the path that the cavalry must pass. It is very easy to dig pits in the sand. Then he broke off the arrows and inserted them upside down in the pits.

, and then cover the hole with piles of leaves.

"Dutou, will it be useful?"

Chen Qing shook his head, "I don't know, I'll just take it every moment I can."

Chen Qing raised his head and looked at the woods behind him. He was really worried. He wondered whether Zhao Xiaoyi could escape.

The thunderous sound of horse hooves could be heard from the woods, and the Jurchen cavalry was chasing after them.

"Walk!"

Chen Qing jumped up, jumped into the river with dozens of soldiers, and quickly flowed to the other side.

In just a moment, the Jurchen cavalry rushed out of the woods. They did not reduce their number, but they were delayed.

General Wanyan Alu's face was red and swollen, and he was filled with hatred. He looked at the Song soldiers fleeing in the river, brandished his sword and shouted: "Catch up with the enemy and kill them all!"

Hundreds of cavalry sped up and ran toward the river. Suddenly, a dozen cavalrymen running in front fell down one after another. The cavalrymen behind them were unable to dodge, and dozens more horses were tripped.

The cavalry behind them reined in their horses one after another and did not dare to move forward.

"What's going on?" Wanyan Alu asked sharply.

"Captain, there is a horse trap on the ground!"

The legs of more than a dozen war horses were broken, and the arrow points penetrated deeply into the horses' hooves. The horses were considered disabled, and several cavalrymen were seriously injured.

When Wanyan A'lu saw that the Song army had already landed and ran towards the mountain hundreds of steps away, he shouted anxiously, "Don't worry about the horse trap, hurry up and catch up!"

The Jurchen cavalry bravely rushed towards the river. Unfortunately, another Jurchen cavalry stepped into a horse pit. The horse neighed and fell, and the Jurchen cavalry rolled directly into the river.

Unprepared, another cavalryman also stepped into the horse trap. The sharp arrow pierced the horse's hoof. The horse fell forward heavily, pressing the cavalryman underneath him.

But the rest of the cavalry rushed into the river, and the horses ran in the river, and the water splashed.

The Jurchen cavalry stretched out their bows and nocked arrows, and shot at the Song soldiers who rushed into the forest. Chen Qing waved his big gun and fired the arrows, retreating as he walked.

In the end, the Jurchen cavalry was a step too late. Chen Qing and several soldiers finally rushed into the forest and disappeared into the darkness of the forest.

The Jurchen cavalry reined in their horses in front of the mountain forest. The horses stopped moving, so they could only dismount and follow. Wanyan Alu held up a curtain and looked toward the mountain. He vaguely saw a wooden camp fence halfway up the mountain.

"There is a camp on the mountain. Let the whole army rest for a while. They can't escape!"

…………

Chen Qing could no longer let the soldiers run for their lives. Most of the soldiers were injured. If they continued to run, even if they were not killed by the Jurchen cavalry, half of them would die due to worsening injuries.

They are in urgent need of rest and healing.

Erlang Village was a small military stronghold left behind by Qu Duan, the capital commander, when he deployed the defense of Guanzhong. There were many such military strongholds in Guanzhong, where soldiers were stationed and grain and grass supplies were hoarded.

Zhang Jun, the commander-in-chief of the Northwest Army, was focused on planning for the Fuping Battle and opposed Qu Duan's defensive strategy. Almost all military strongholds were abandoned.

The military village is located halfway up the mountain. It is not big. When viewed from the sky, it is shaped like a crescent. The open space is about five to six hundred square meters and can accommodate up to two hundred people. The garrison dug more than twenty cave dwellings on the mountain wall to serve as military camps and storage.

A warehouse for supplies, and then a circle of fences was built at the front.

There is also a mountain spring gurgling down from the mountain. This is the most important. There must be a water source to build a military stronghold.

After entering the military camp, the exhausted soldiers lay down one after another. The pain and extreme exhaustion made them unable to move anymore. The uninjured soldiers soaked cloth strips with spring water and cleaned and bandaged the wounds of the wounded soldiers.

The soldiers opened the cave dwelling. There was no rain or moisture inside. It was well ventilated, warm and dry. They carried a dozen of the most seriously injured soldiers inside.

The soldiers were hungry, cold, and seriously injured. They had no medicine for their sores and no food.

Without medicine, the wounded soldiers will not survive the night, and without food, they will not survive the night either.

What's more terrible is that they have no weapons. The soldiers' armor and spears were thrown away in the woods, leaving only daggers and a few bows and arrows. The entire army only had an iron spear carried by the general Chen Qing.

Once the Jurchens attacked, they had no choice but to flee separately. The army dispersed and the organization died, which meant that their entire army was destroyed.

This is a cruel reality that no one wants to face.

Everyone's eyes are fixed on the cave warehouse, which is their only hope.

Chen Qing ordered the soldiers to tear off the seal and smash the lock with a hammer. The corps commander Yang Hua laughed and said: "General, don't worry, there must be soldiers and armor supplies!"

General Chen Qing said doubtfully: "Break the lock!"

The big lock was finally smashed, the door opened, a large amount of light came in, and the situation in the cave was clearly presented before their eyes, and the soldiers suddenly cheered.

Chen Qing breathed a long sigh of relief and leaned tiredly against the door frame, feeling a heartfelt gratitude to the former garrison.
