Chapter 11 The Accomplishment of Ancient Furniture Skills

His previous home was a village called Jahhe Village under Yingqiu County, Yuandu City, Dongshan Province...

Depend on!

What is the predecessor and successor?

Since I have inherited this body and all the memories of this body, what is the difference between its predecessor and its predecessor?

The home of the predecessor is one's own home, and the relatives of one's predecessor are one's relatives.

Zhang Junping exhaled and thought to himself.

Thinking of this, Zhang Junping suddenly felt as if a shackle had been removed from his body, and his whole body was refreshed, just like eating a piece of iced watermelon on a dog day in the middle of summer and feeling indescribably comfortable.

Zhang Junping suddenly realized that it was only now that he had completely integrated with this body.

Previously, because of the separation between his soul and body, Zhang Junping didn't know how to face his family, and he always subconsciously ignored the existence of his family.

Fortunately, his family is far away in Dongshan Province, and transportation and communication are not convenient in this era. Otherwise, Zhang Junping really doesn't know how to face his family.

Zhang Junping continued to think about what he had just thought about.

By making a folding chair, Zhang Junping can completely solve his own dilemma and no longer worry about money.

But, is this what he wants?

no!

He wants to pursue a higher realm of wood art, but it is not enough just to not be bothered by money!

There also needs to be a lot of discretionary time.

Therefore, if you want to truly achieve financial freedom, not be bothered by the trivial matters of life, and allow yourself to study skills with peace of mind, just selling folding chairs is not enough!

Zhang Junping has been thinking about what he should do to achieve financial freedom earlier.

Yesterday, folding chairs were being snapped up like crazy. Zhang Junping had some ideas in his mind, but he just hadn't thought of it yet.

Today, a wealthy and heroic aunt asked Zhang Junping to customize fifty-six legs, which made Zhang Junping's thoughts clearer.

After breaking the barrier with this body, Zhang Junping's thinking became more agile and smoother.

Zhang Junping thought about it all the way to the secondhand goods station.

After greeting stationmaster Li and Wang Bin, Zhang Junping went directly to work in the goods yard.

Zhang Junping was not in a hurry to repair the furniture.

Instead, I took out a pen and paper and started measuring the dimensions of a Ming Dynasty beech wood dragon pattern variant rounded corner cabinet.

While measuring, record and draw on paper.

Beech, also called southern elm, is the most commonly used wood in traditional furniture, especially among the people.

Among beech trees, blood beech is the most precious. Its color is reddish-yellow, similar to the color of Hainan huanghuali. It has a special "pagoda pattern" like overlapping wavy tips.

Therefore, beech wood is called the "declined aristocracy" and was highly sought after by wealthy merchants during the Ming, Qing, and Republic of China periods.

Because the main producing area of beech wood is in Jiangsu, Suzhou furniture is the main type of beech wood furniture.

The square-corner cabinet in front of you is a variant of the Ming Dynasty Su Zuo dragon-patterned rounded corner cabinet. The cabinet is 101 cm long, 50 cm wide and 170.6 cm high.

The construction method and frame lines of the cabinet are very similar to the above example. The two door pieces have latch rods and cabinet chambers. The drawers and chamber plates in the cabinet are also very similar.

It’s just that this variant of the rounded corner cabinet has floor relief carvings on the cabinet door and cabinet vertical board.

The cabinet door has four tiles and three sections. The upper part is embossed with grass dragon and Ganoderma lucidum patterns; the middle part and the side mountains are carved with neat and orderly four clusters of cloud patterns; the lower part is painted with thick sun lines and a large Ruyi cloud pattern.

The wood grain of the cabinet is gorgeous, the carving is meticulous and elegant, and the carvings and moldings are extremely well done, making it simple and gorgeous.

It is definitely a representative work of Su furniture, which perfectly embodies Su furniture's graceful shape, low-cost construction and handsome style.

Zhang Junping did not simply measure the dimensions of furniture, but while measuring, he learned the craftsmanship of ancient furniture from the Ming and Qing Dynasties through observation and data comparison.

"Master Zhang, why haven't you started repairing yet?" Wang Bin visited several times and saw that Zhang Junping had been taking measurements and drawing pictures, so he finally couldn't help but ask.

"Haha! Stationmaster Wang, there is an old saying that goes, sharpening the knife will not waste time chopping wood!

I study the workmanship of each piece of furniture and understand it before making it to ensure that the repaired or replaced parts are consistent with the style of the original furniture!" Zhang Junping raised his head and explained, and continued to measure the dimensions without paying any attention to Wang Bin.

"If you have the ability, you will be willful!" Wang Bin could only mutter to himself and turned around to leave.

Zhang Junping is definitely not willful in his craftsmanship, and he really is not in the mood to talk to Wang Bin.

After a morning of research, he realized that he was a little too confident.

The capital was the ancient capital of five dynasties, especially the Ming and Qing Dynasties, which has a history of more than 500 years.

It can be said that there is no place in the country where you can find furniture from all over the country like Beijing.

In a single morning, Zhang Junping saw Guangzhou furniture, Su furniture, Jin furniture, Lu furniture and many other different styles of furniture.

There is also Yuandu’s characteristic mahogany furniture inlaid with silver.

These different styles of furniture involve various techniques such as carving, inlaying, and gold painting.

A single inlay craft includes many different techniques.

It is too difficult to achieve non-destructive repairs and maintain the same style as the original work!

He can't do it yet!

When Zhang Junping was depressed because his skills were not good enough, how could he be in the mood to talk to Wang Bin?

Zhang Junping worked hard until he got off work in the evening. He drew a bunch of drawings and accumulated a lot of data.

After carefully putting the drawings and data into the tool box, Zhang Junping simply washed his hands and left the junkyard.

Compared with the excitement yesterday, Zhang Junping returned to his residence today full of depression.

"Mr. Yang? Why are you here?"

Zhang Junping was surprised to see an old man.

He has gray hair and wears a white crew-neck sweatshirt on his upper body and a pair of gray shorts that reach his knees.

In this outfit, he looks like an old man on the streets of Beijing.

For those who don’t know him, who would have thought that this is the famous master of three unique arts, Professor Yang Mingde, deputy director of the School of Painting of the Central Academy of Fine Arts.

"What? I can't come?"

"No, I just didn't expect it, it was a bit unexpected!" Zhang Junping hurriedly explained.

"Boy, I see you are in a low mood, like an eggplant beaten by frost. What's wrong? What happened?" The old lady opened her mouth to help Zhang Junping.

"Grandma Liu," Zhang Junping thought for a while and then said what was on his mind, "I just discovered today that I overestimated my abilities!

It might be okay to restore one or two pieces of ancient furniture from the Ming and Qing Dynasties!

However, there are more than 200 pieces of furniture mixed together, including furniture from Beijing, furniture from Guangzhou, furniture from Su, and furniture from Jin, and I can’t repair it!”

When Zhang Junping said that he could not cultivate, he was very frustrated.

"Haha, you kid, you have such a big heart!

I actually want to perfectly restore several different styles of ancient furniture from the Ming and Qing Dynasties!

Not to mention you, even I would not dare to say such a thing!" Yang Mingde laughed after hearing this.

“Originally I thought I could do it, but the more I studied today, the more I felt guilty!

Only then did I realize that I can’t do it!” Zhang Junping scratched his head and said awkwardly.

“That’s right if it doesn’t work!

You know you are only twenty years old this year!

Every piece of high-quality ancient furniture is a masterpiece that integrates the essence of mortise and tenon jointing, carving, inlay, painting, lacquer and other skills!

If you know how to cultivate, then you are a monster!" the old lady explained with a smile.
