The main reason why Li Wei had such an idea was the "bear hunting" plan initiated by the Japanese. He had already detected this plan as early as last year and reported it to the Red Party.
In August 1938, Lyushkov, a senior intelligence official who defected from the Soviet Union, returned to Manchuria from Japan and began working for Japan's spy agency.
Because he had a strong hatred for the Soviet Union, and when he defected, his wife was also captured by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and she was afraid that she would die, so he said to the Japanese: As long as Stalin can be defeated,
No matter what he does, he helps.
Later, he even thought of a "great" plan, which was to assassinate Stalin.
At that time, there were more than 100,000 Russians living in Manchuria. Of course, these people were also called "White Russians".
The formation of "White Russia" mainly comes from three aspects: the first is the expatriates stranded in China after the Soviet Union's "October Revolution"; the second is the refugees who fled to China during the Soviet Patriotic War; the third is Stalin's "Great Purge"
People who escaped to China by chance during the movement.
Among these people, some of them had a strong hatred for the Soviet regime, so they embarked on the road of anti-Soviet. Many of them joined the Japanese "mercenaries", and some of them hoped to sneak back to the Soviet Union.
Engage in propaganda or sabotage activities.
Therefore, after Ryusikov arrived in Manchuria, he quickly found several people who were willing to cooperate with him. These people were all members of the anti-Soviet underground organization "Russian Patriots League".
He then agreed with these people on a bold plan to assassinate Stalin deep inside the Soviet Union.
The entire plan was formulated by Ryusikov, who was familiar with Sochi's geographical environment and Stalin's various aspects.
Ryusikov's plan was to sneak into Batumi from Turkey, which is weakly defended in the Caucasus, and then from Batumi to Sochi, 300 kilometers away, to assassinate Stalin who was recuperating in his villa here.
Of course, the main reason why this plan was formulated was because Stalin's father passed away on January 25, 1890, and was later buried in Gori, Georgia. Stalin would return to Gori every three years to visit his grave and pay homage to his father.
And 1939 was the year when Stalin went back to pay homage to his father. According to the rules, after sweeping the grave, Stalin would not immediately return to the ice and snow in Moscow, but would stay in the scenic Sochi for a few days to recuperate.
Stalin's villa in Sochi was built under the supervision of Lyusikov, but Lyusikov believed that assassinations could not be carried out in that villa because it was heavily guarded and there was no chance for him and others.
So the place to start was the Matseta Hot Springs on the outskirts of Sochi.
According to Lyushkov's understanding of Stalin, Stalin would choose to spend time in the hot springs from 2 to 5 pm every afternoon after finishing his day's activities.
Ryusikov's plan to assassinate Stalin was supported by the Second Department of the Japanese Army General Staff Headquarters, so they jointly planned the assassination of Stalin with Japanese army attachés in Europe.
This time the action team consisted of eight people, led by a Japanese. The actual activities were directed by Ryusikov. The puppet "Manchukuo Ministry of Foreign Affairs" provided a German translator, and the other five were members of the "Russian Patriots League".
On January 17, 1939, eight of them arrived in Naples, Italy. Later, they were sent to Istanbul, and on January 21, they arrived in Borga in the border area from Istanbul.
There, they received the guns and ammunition that Japanese embassy personnel had previously purchased for them from the black market.
On the evening of January 24, in order not to attract attention, Ryusikov and other seven people separated from the Japanese and divided into two groups to head to the border area.
But the assassination of Stalin had actually been exposed a long time ago. Not to mention that Li Wei had already informed the Red Party about it. After the Red Party learned about it, after thinking about it again and again, they immediately contacted the people lurking in the Northeast region.
Members of the underground organization have a comprehensive understanding of this matter.
In this world, if anything is not known to others, it may be called a secret, but as long as someone knows some clues, the "secret" will not be called a secret.
Therefore, members of the Red Party's underground organization far away in the Northeast received telegrams from the Red Party headquarters this time, and began to investigate in a targeted manner, so they quickly found some clues.
Although the comrades of the Northeast Underground Party did not receive specific information about the assassination, the authenticity of the information sent back by Comrade "Butterfly" was confirmed from the information obtained from various aspects.
Therefore, when Comrade Xiangwu, Comrade Nongfu and other senior leaders of the Red Party received this information, they also greatly praised Comrade "Butterfly".
After all, Comrade Butterfly's information is of great significance to the Red Party, because it can fully demonstrate the capabilities of the Red Party in front of the Soviet Union, and this is also very needed for the Red Party.
Later, the Red Party also communicated this matter with the Soviet Union. Of course, the Soviet Union had already known about this matter through their secret intelligence channels.
After all, the defection of a senior intelligence official like Lyusikov would have a huge impact, so it would be impossible if the Soviet Union did not take any measures.
It's funny that Lyushikov and others still think their plan is perfect.
But in any case, the fact that the Chinese Red Party could actually know this information shocked the Soviet authorities. After all, in the hearts of the Soviet people, the Chinese Red Party had always been their "little brother."
But this "little brother" really impressed them this time, so in the subsequent exchanges between the Red Party and the Soviet Union, the Soviet Union also promised a lot of things to the Red Party, and many of them have never been agreed upon.
The agreement was reached immediately. This can be regarded as the Soviet Union’s feedback to the Red Party’s capabilities!
In this regard, Comrade Xiangwu once said with emotion during a night conversation with Comrade Farmer: "Comrade Butterfly, one person is as good as three divisions."
Of course, Li Wei naturally didn't know these things.
However, it was precisely because of the leakage of the assassination intelligence that after the assassination team entered the border area of the Cholu River, the Soviet border guards suddenly fired flares and fired machine guns. Three people were killed on the spot.
However, based on the intelligence obtained from the Turkish General Staff, the Japanese Embassy previously concluded that this location should be undefended.
Therefore, Ryusikov, who arrived later, had to retreat to Istanbul with three other people.
At this point, the first attempt to assassinate Stalin failed.
