Chapter Thirty-Two: Proud Major Jones

On the slopes of Beihan Mountain, Lu Chen interrogated Forrest and Baker. Forrest and Baker were low-level soldiers and had limited information, but they also provided some valuable information.

The U.S. military forward has reached a place more than ten kilometers away from Bukhan Mountain, or less than 40 kilometers away from Songheli. The U.S. mechanized force can reach Songheri in a few hours and launch an attack immediately. Forrest

and Baker were responsible for setting up the telephone line from Songheli to Bukhansan.

The U.S. vanguard force consists of two battalions, commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Bill, and is equipped with armored vehicles, tanks, and American M101 105mm howitzers. It has been assembled, but the specific attack time is not yet clear.

The American M101 105mm howitzer is the main artillery of the US Army. Its main advantages are the unified production of shells and high production efficiency. Hundreds of thousands of shells are transported from the United States to the Korean battlefield.

Based on the information obtained during the interrogation, Lu Chen concluded that "the US military may launch an attack tomorrow, and the Bukhan Mountain area will become an important base for the US military."

Liu Santang agreed with Lu Chen's analysis, "Lu Chen's analysis makes sense. We will immediately escort the two US military prisoners back to Songheli and report to the company commander and instructor."

Liu Santang, Chen Jiushan, and Lu Chen escorted Forrest and Baker back to Songheli. They reported to company commander Feng Ren and instructor Cheng Min that they captured two US military prisoners and obtained important information. Liu Santang

, Chen Jiushan, and Lu Chen were praised by Feng Ren and Cheng Min.

Feng Ren ordered, "A report will be formed immediately. Santong will be responsible for reporting it to the regiment. The warning range will be expanded to five kilometers to monitor the actions of the US military at any time. Chen Jiushan will be in charge of the warning post."

At ten o'clock the next morning, the security post reported that the US military had arrived. The forward troops were only five kilometers away from Songheli. Feng Ren immediately ordered the entire company to enter the position, with the fourth platoon as a reserve team. Liu Santang and Lu Chen took several

Snipers established a sniper point on the south bank of the river to snipe the U.S. military from the flank.

Feng Ren emphasized, "Santong, your mission is to snipe important targets and win by surprise. You cannot expose the target in advance."

Lieutenant Colonel Bill, deputy commander of the Seventh Infantry Regiment of the Thirteenth Division of the U.S. Army, suffered a defeat at the Unnamed Heights. He failed to capture the Unnamed Heights on time and allowed the Chinese army guarding the Unnamed Heights to escape. He was disgraced and determined to avenge his disgrace in Song Heli.

The adjutant reported, "Lieutenant Colonel Bill, there is a Chinese blocking position on the hillside 1,500 meters ahead on the left."

A simple command post was set up between several tree trunks. Bill raised the American M5-6X30 telescope and looked to the left. Sure enough, on the top of the 1,500-meter hill, there were several red flags.

There are also Chinese soldiers wearing light green military uniforms lying at the front of the position.

Lieutenant Colonel Bill was a fire control theorist and believed in the principle of fire supremacy. He immediately ordered the adjutant, "Adjutant, inform the air force to bomb the 1,500-meter Chinese position on the left front of our position. After the aircraft bombing is completed, we will shell another ten

Five minutes, and then Harrison will attack again."

Major Jones, a meritorious pilot of the US military, flew a B-25 medium bomber on a mission to bomb Tokyo, Japan during World War II. After receiving the mission to bomb Songheli, he took his wingman Lieutenant Davis and set off from Qingchuan Airport at noon.

The sky above Linsongheli.

Qingchuan Airport is located southeast of the Qingchuan River, 300 kilometers away from the Songheli battlefield, and the B-25 medium bomber's flight range is less than an hour.

The B-25 medium bomber is a straight-wing, twin-engine propeller-type medium-range medium bomber with twin vertical tails. It was developed by North American Airlines in 1939 and officially entered service in February 1941.

In commemoration of Brigadier General William Mitchell, the American aviation strategist in World War I, the founder of the Army Aviation Forces, and the famous U.S. Army aviation commander, the aircraft was nicknamed "Mitchell". It has a crew of 6 people and a bomb load of 1.5 tons. It is the largest

It has a range of 2,173 kilometers, a maximum ceiling of 7,378 meters, and a top speed of 438 kilometers per hour.

The B-25 medium bomber has a small bomb load, a light fuselage, and can fly at ultra-low altitudes. It is the main aircraft type for position bombing. In the air of several thousand meters, overlooking the mountains below the wing, it is vast and boundless. The bombing target Songheli is just

A small spot. In order to see the target clearly, Major Jones had to lower the fuselage of the B-25 medium bomber to an altitude of one thousand meters.

According to reports, the Chinese position is 1,500 meters to the left of the US military command post. Major Jones adjusted the coordinates and saw several red flags and a dark, winding line on the top of a hill. Jones

It was judged that this was the position of the Chinese Army, and the dark and curved lines were the trenches dug by the Chinese Army.

Major Jones issued the order, "Lieutenant Davis, one thousand meters to the left is the Chinese Army's position. We have completed two rounds of bombing. We will return to Qingchuan Airport to drink two glasses of whiskey. The dive height will be 600 meters. Let's start!"

Jones has superb driving skills and has always been known for his accurate bombing. Jones pulled the joystick and the B-25 medium bomber dived sharply. The fuselage dropped to 600 meters from the top of the hill. This time Jones could see more clearly. Some Chinese soldiers

Lying at the front of the position, I saw my plane dive, but I didn't know how to avoid it. I just lay on the position motionless.

The Chinese army was still in the tribal stage, with crude weapons and lack of training. Jones recalled the teachings of Colonel Jackson. Colonel Jackson was Jones’s commander and a hero whom Jones admired. He had carried out missions to bomb Berlin, Germany, and Tokyo, Japan. It seemed that Commander Jackson

My judgment is correct, the Chinese army is still in the tribal stage.

Jones pressed the launch button without hesitation. More than a dozen bombs popped out from the belly of the B-25 medium bomber and fell to the top of the hill. "Boom, boom -" the bombs exploded. Smoke billowed from the top of the hill. Jones saw the Chinese army.

Soldiers flew up with the smoke.

As expected, they were still in the tribal stage. Jones felt some sympathy for the Chinese army. He really didn't know why they were fighting against the powerful American army.

"Boom, boom—" Major Jones and Lieutenant Davis took turns bombing the position on the top of the mountain. After more than ten minutes, the bombing mission was completed and the plane raised its altitude and returned.

"Concrete, concrete, --, boom, boom --" After the plane bombing mission was completed, Lieutenant Colonel Bill ordered the artillery to bombard for fifteen minutes. Eight American M101 105mm howitzers opened fire, and the top of the hill was immediately filled with thick smoke and flames.

soaring.

The greater the firepower, the greater the victory, and the less casualties, Lieutenant Colonel Bill silently recited his tactical principles in his heart.

Fifteen minutes later, Bill saw in the telescope that the top of the mountain was bare and there were several burning birch trees standing there. Bill judged that under the bombardment of such fierce artillery fire, the Chinese army must have been completely destroyed and lost the ability to attack.
