Chapter 1 Temple Name, Posthumous Name and All Things

After taking the throne, the new emperor enshrined the coffin of the late emperor in the Taiji Hall.

Then, Li Zhiyun and the ministers handled the funeral affairs for the late emperor. The first thing they did was to decide on the temple name of the late emperor, Gaozu, his posthumous name of Emperor Wu, and the title of Emperor Gaozu of the Tang Dynasty, Emperor Wu.

The reason why he is not Taizu is because when the late emperor came to the throne, he believed that the Tang Dynasty was founded by Emperor Taizu Jing Li Hu.

Therefore, entrepreneurship began with Li Hu.

According to the "Confucius Family Language: Temple System", the rule of 'the ancestors have merits and the clans have virtues', the temple was named Gaozu. The posthumous name of Emperor Wu was to praise the late emperor for his contribution to unifying the world.

The official title is Emperor Gaozu Wu of the Tang Dynasty, or Emperor Wu of the Tang Dynasty.

In the early Han Dynasty and before, every emperor would have a posthumous title, but not every emperor would have a temple title.

If there is a temple title, it means that the emperor must have made great achievements. As for the posthumous title, it evaluates an emperor's life, so every emperor has a posthumous title, but not necessarily a temple title.

Therefore, in the early Han Dynasty, temple names were complimentary. When the new emperor asked to give the former emperor a temple name, the ministers might think twice, but now there is no need.

Because historically, after the Han Dynasty, temple names began to proliferate, but the emperor was still called "Emperor So-and-so" in history books.

It was not until Emperor Gaozong of the Tang Dynasty that the posthumous names began to be called by temple names after a few random characters were added to them, resulting in the posthumous names being smelly and long.

Generally speaking, whether it is a temple name or a posthumous title, it all depends on the wishes of the new monarch and ministers.

Being like Zulong is domineering enough. I am the First Emperor. It is your turn to evaluate me?

Stay aside!

Li Zhiyun originally wanted to abolish Li Hu's Taizu temple title, but after thinking about it, he decided not to do it. Lao Li liked to do this, so just let him go.

After agreeing on the temple name and posthumous title, Li Zhiyun could already hear crying in his ears.

When he walked to the Taiji Hall, he saw the late emperor's concubines and children, all gathered in the Taiji Hall to mourn. In addition, there were Queen Wanshi, Princess Pingyang Li Xiuning, the clan, and ministers.

Li Zhiyun sighed softly, and immediately called the generals and deputy generals of the various guards, asking them to strictly guard Chang'an.

At this time, we can't make any trouble.

After one night, the people of Chang'an learned that Emperor Li Yuan had made his fortune and that Prince Li Zhiyun had ascended the throne.

Chang'an was immersed in sadness for an instant.

Tai Chi Hall, side hall.

As the new king, Li Zhiyun has to endure his grief, handle state affairs, and mourn the mourning. He can do it occasionally, but he doesn't have to be around day and night.

Yu Shiqian, the Minister of Rites, found Li Zhiyun and said: "Your Majesty, the emperor is sacred and should be avoided by all people. From now on, all names related to your Majesty must be changed."

Li Zhiyun shook his head and said: "It doesn't have to be like this. I am the emperor and all the people are like my brothers and sisters. Why should I make things difficult for my brothers and sisters? Well, from now on, as long as the word Zhiyun is not used together, there is no need to avoid taboos and everything will be as before."

The ministers who accompanied Li Zhiyun in handling state affairs were all surprised. The new king has a broad mind.

In fact, the emperors of the Han Dynasty did a very good job of avoiding such taboos. They simply changed them to uncommon words to make way for the common people.

Li Zhiyun is more straightforward, just don't use the two words together.

Anyway, his name "Zhiyun" is not a commonly used word. In fact, it is not even a word. It is just two words used together, and it will not disturb the people.

If someone really names "Zhang Zhiyun" or "Wang Zhiyun", then you are deliberately going against the emperor Li Zhiyun.

Otherwise, it would be okay to name them ‘Zhang Zhi’ and ‘Zhang Yun’, or even ‘Li Zhi’ and ‘Li Yun’.

Historically, Li Shimin saved trouble and did not change his name, making the whole world make way for him.

However, this is blameless. There are many emperors who do not change their names, and he is not missing. Li Zhiyun does not change his name, mainly because he is used to it and is too lazy to change it.

Immediately afterwards, he said: "After me, whoever ascends the throne as king may change his name according to what I am doing today, and shall not disturb the people."

Yu Shiqian agreed: "I obey the decree."

Subsequently, several prime ministers praised the emperor for his kindness and love for the people.

Yang Gongren asked: "The late emperor has made great achievements. When will your majesty plan to confer the title of queen mother, concubine, and kings and princesses?"

Li Zhiyun said: "Just wait a little longer."

"yes."

"What about the coronation ceremony?"

"We will wait until the late emperor is buried." Li Zhiyun was not so impatient that he wanted to formalize his enthronement immediately.

Anyway, he already controls the court and the army, so there is no rush at this moment.

Now that there are a lot of things going on, Li Zhiyun decided to deal with the big things first, and then think about the canonization and enthronement ceremony.

Then, Li Zhiyun began to discuss the late emperor's death with the ministers.

Mainly regarding the funeral, Li Zhiyun conveyed Li Yuan's intention to several prime ministers. Generally speaking, everyone agreed to keep everything simple.

On some matters, ministers have different opinions.

"Your Majesty, I believe that the concubines who were blessed by the late emperor, whether they have any heirs or not, must go to the temple to practice so as not to damage the virtue of the late emperor by releasing them from the palace." Pei Ji said.

Li Zhiyun thought for a while and agreed.

The woman who was blessed by the late emperor must be the late emperor's woman. If she was released to marry, wouldn't that be a hat to the late emperor?

"Can."

Pei Ji added: "However, since the late emperor has his destiny, the unlucky woman can be released from the palace."

"Can."

Immediately, Pei Ju asked again: "Your Majesty, what scale should be used to move the deposed prince and Li Yuanji into the late emperor's mausoleum?"

Needless to say, King Qin Li Shimin built it according to the specifications of a top-notch mausoleum. But Li Jiancheng and Li Yuanji were both rebels, so it was difficult to decide.

Li Zhiyun thought for a while and said: "Let's do this. The deposed prince will be given the posthumous title of Prince Yin, and Li Yuanji will be crowned the King of Jiaodong. According to the scale, Li Shimin, the second king of Qin, will move in. Their heirs, as well as the former emperor's former heroes, will all move in."

"According to the decree."

Li Zhiyun was not as good as a dead person, even though Li Jiancheng and Li Yuanji had thought about killing him.

Unlike Li Shimin, he would not deliberately disgust people to death. Even if he could get along with his second sister-in-law Qin Se and have an heir in the future, he would not adopt the child to Li Shimin.

Second brother, don't thank me, I'm just doing what I should do. You don't want to see your second sister-in-law losing weight all day long in her prime.

Let me, my little brother, take good care of your poor second sister-in-law on your behalf.

Thinking of this, Li Zhiyun's lips curled up slightly.

The ministers immediately mentioned the burial schedule, the scale of the ceremony, and the number of soldiers guarding the tomb.

Until late at night, the late emperor's posthumous affairs were still not finished. The ministers were worried about His Majesty's health, so they took the initiative to propose that they would go down to discuss everything, and then submit the documents to Li Zhiyun for decision.

Li Zhiyun readily accepted this.

After the prime ministers left, Li Zhiyun called his servants and brought some vegetarian food, which he used a little.

After getting up and coming to the main hall of Tai Chi Hall, Li Zhiyun walked forward slowly and knelt beside his mother. Madam Yang, Wei Gui, Huaiyang and others all knelt with Queen Wan.

Wan's face looked haggard. When she saw Li Zhiyun, she said, "Emperor, if you have to deal with state affairs, it's enough to have the Ai family here. You can go back and rest."

"Mother, let the child accompany the late Emperor."

Seeing this, Mrs. Wan sighed softly and said: "Before he left, the late emperor asked Aijia to advise you to take care of your health. The late emperor once told Aijia that although you are young, your body must be heavy. Now you are no longer

You are the prince, but the emperor. The rise and fall of all the people in the world depends on you, so you must not ignore it."

When Li Yuan was dying, Wan was always by his side.

The Crown Princess, no, perhaps we should say the Queen-to-be Yang, also advised: "Your Majesty, please go back and rest first. I have my concubine here, so there is no need to worry."

The death of the late emperor happened just last night, and Li Zhiyun's enthronement ceremony was not even held, let alone the canonization of the queen, concubines, and kings and princesses.

Therefore, although the courtiers have changed their name to Queen Mother Wan in private, the titles of the Crown Princess and others have not changed.

After all, Empress Wan is the biological mother of the emperor, so it is inevitable that she will be conferred the title of Queen Mother in the future, so there is no problem in changing her words. But as for the empress, as long as the emperor has not decreed the canonization, the ministers will not dare to change their words.

However, the courtiers all knew that this was just a matter of time.
