Chapter 16 Visiting the patient

The 19th floor of the inpatient department of Qidao City Third Hospital, where the surgical ward is located.

On the bedside table next to Chu Yuexi's bed is a bouquet of pink, purple and white cosmos, and a basket of fresh fruits.

Yu Zhesen didn't say hello when he came in. He went straight to the chair next to the bed and sat down. He placed the small white box containing the new mobile phone next to the fruit basket.

"This is..."

"Instructor Claire asked me to bring you a gift." Yu Zhesen sat down on the chair next to the bed.

Chu Yuexi thought for a while.

"You call Commander Claire an instructor? You are indeed from the Security Bureau, right?" She came to her senses.

Yu Zhesen was stunned. He didn't expect that he would spill the beans in front of her if he wasn't paying attention.

He could only half admit and half explain: "I have received training from her before, but I did not officially join the Security Bureau later."

"Why? Have you been eliminated? No way..."

"How is your injury?" Yu Zhesen changed the subject.

Chu Yuexi smiled slightly: "The doctor said it's okay. He performed a small operation and the fragments have been taken out. It still hurts a little now..."

"Where are your colleagues from the Security Bureau? I didn't see anyone outside, so they just left you here alone?"

"Everyone still has tasks to be busy with. It doesn't matter if I'm here alone. There are doctors and nurses here."

Yu Zhesen nodded.

"Um... Yu Zhesen, can I borrow your mobile phone?" Chu Yuexi suddenly asked him.

Do you want to call your family?

Her mobile phone was crushed by Jin Jianshen's foot in the underground garage. The call was not interrupted at that time. Her parents must have been worried until now...

Yu Zhesen immediately handed her his mobile phone, got up and went to the corridor to breathe.

He leaned against the wall next to the door and heard Chu Yuexi's voice faintly coming from the ward, seeming to be comforting his family.

It seems that she has a good family, they love each other and are happy and harmonious.

Thinking of this, two vague shadows appeared in Yu Zhesen's mind involuntarily.

A pair of young and beautiful young man and woman.

Yu Zhesen’s parents in memory.

He was only 4 years old when they died. After so many years, he can hardly remember what they looked like in his memory.

Although I have kept their photos, the young couple in the photos look not much older than Yu Zhesen now.

The man has a somewhat frivolous four- to six-part hair style, sharp eyebrows and bright eyes with a straight nose bridge.

The woman has smooth, straight black hair without bangs, curved eyebrows and a mole on the left corner of her eye, and her skin is as fair as snow.

It seems difficult for this pair of handsome men and women wearing black uniforms of the Security Bureau to carry the concepts of "father" and "mother" in Yu Zhisen's heart.

Before he had time to create enough memories with them, the turmoil and fire in Starzhou City swallowed up everything.

After that, he met An Zhitian.

The man with a terrible scar diagonally across the bridge of his nose.

Although that man always tried his best to act like a loving father in front of him and An He at home, Yu Zhesen was still able to see through the deep hatred hidden in his eyes.

When the siblings were young, An Zhitian would deliberately avoid answering official calls in front of them, but the image of him standing on the balcony smoking a cigarette while listening to phone reports while looking at the steel jungle with flashing neon lights left a deep impression on him.

In Yu Zhesen’s memory.

It was a winter night, and the sliding door of the balcony was only half-closed. Yu Zhesen, who was forced to close the door by the cold wind that poured into the living room, heard his adoptive father's low roar.

"No need to wait for the detention center and the tribunal! Deal with them...those demons!"

The man on the balcony pressed his cigarette butt hard against the guardrail, hung up the phone, lowered his head and sobbed.

Yu Zhesen, who was only seven years old, was stunned by this scene. He forgot that he had come to close the door. The cold wind of winter night hit him head-on, making him tremble and make him want to sneeze.

A warm blanket was draped over him from behind, and then An He's warm hands covered his cheeks.

"Don't blame dad. Bad people took away the most precious person and friend in his life."

"His heart has become a furnace, and the firewood called hatred is burning inside."

"When you grow up to be a man, you will understand him."

An He whispered in his ear, and the hot air blew into his ear socket, which was hot and a little itchy.

That was the first time Yu Zhesen realized that his adoptive father was not only a loving and proud lion, but also a scarred and lonely wolf.

He admired An Zhitian's perseverance, and even more admired his dedication to safeguarding the order of the revitalized city, but he could not imagine that he could become the same person as An Zhitian.

I originally accepted An Zhitian's recommendation to participate in the security bureau's student training with the mentality of giving it a try, but my results in the comprehensive assessment were unexpectedly good. If it weren't for that incident, maybe I would have actually become a security officer.

Commissioner of the bureau...

That thing...

Yu Zhesen held his forehead and laughed at himself in the corridor outside the ward.

What's the saying? When people look back on their lives, it's really easy to feel that they were a fool in the past.

Isn't it just that An He was arranged by the Marriage and Education Bureau to go on a blind date? What's the big deal?

Just like today, he had a meal and went shopping with his intern, chatting casually and showing an awkward yet polite smile.

Anyway, it didn’t work out in the end. I threw the stone into the sea, and there wasn’t even a splash.

But why did I find it difficult to accept it at that time?

Not only did he temporarily regret his decision and failed the job interview at the Security Bureau, but he also packed up his gear and ran away without a plan, leaving Starship and arriving at the Seven Islands alone.

If he hadn't met "my good brother" Shen Yunqiu, Yu Zhesen would have had to endure a lot of hardships if he wanted to gain a foothold here.

"It turns out that I should have seen a psychiatrist two years ago..." The hand on his forehead slipped slightly, and he covered his eyes and laughed at himself.

"Heart, psychiatrist?"

Chu Yuexi's surprised and confused voice came from the side.

Yu Zhesen's shoulders trembled, and he turned around to see Chu Yuexi, who had gauze wrapped around her forehead and was wearing a blue and white striped hospital gown, tilting her head slightly to look at him.

"What are you doing? You can't rest peacefully in the hospital bed recovering from your injuries." He lectured with a straight face.

"It's just a minor injury, it's nothing to worry about. I finished the phone call, and seeing that you haven't come back, I couldn't help but..."

She handed the phone back a little embarrassed and thanked him solemnly: "Thank you!"

Yu Zhesen put his cell phone in his pocket and urged Chu Yuexi to go back to the room and lie down on the hospital bed.

"You can barely be considered a work-related injury this time, and since you have made meritorious service, I wonder why the Security Bureau has to give you a big leave."

Yu Zhesen paced back and forth beside the bed with his chin in his hands, advising her like a dog-headed military counselor: "If you ask me, you can just act here with peace of mind... Oh no, I mean to rest in peace and recuperate until the internship assessment period. Discharge after completion."

Chu Yuexi blinked in confusion.

"They will definitely let you pass the internship assessment. Instructor Claire has clear rewards and punishments, and will not treat meritorious people badly. If you are discharged from the hospital early, you may catch up with something big. Do you do more and make more mistakes?"

Chu Yuexi finally understood what he meant and couldn't help but smile, showing two small tiger teeth.

"Why are you laughing? I'm serious about helping you with advice." Yu Zhesen rolled his eyes.

"I just think... you are so weird." She lowered her gaze, "You were so willing to fight when you knew there was a bomb, and now you say such slick words..."

Yu Zhesen was stunned for a moment, and he was a little confused as to which one was his sincerity.

"Would you mind telling me why you didn't become my senior?" Chu Yuexi's sparkling eyes were full of curiosity.

"I'm afraid of death." He lied casually.

Nonsense, are you telling her that you missed the opportunity to join the Security Bureau because of the worries of an ignorant boy’s secret love?

Although Yu Zhesen himself doesn’t mind being embarrassed, what if the intern laughs his wounds apart? Right?

"Both my parents died for the Security Bureau during the turmoil that broke out in Starship City in the 52nd year of the Iron Dome Era."

Chu Yuexi's face froze and her eyes widened in disbelief.

"I think they were so willing to fight at that time because they hoped that I could live in a better era, right?"

Yu Zhesen put up his hands and shrugged with a matter-of-fact expression. He felt that he was simply a genius actor, and he almost believed these casually made-up words.

But regardless of whether he deceived her or not, Chu Yuexi was deceived anyway.

"I'm sorry..."

The girl's guilty apology came from the hospital bed.

Yu Zhesen did not expect that his words would cause Chu Yuexi to blame herself. He really felt that she had already performed well as an intern commissioner of the Security Bureau.

And times are indeed getting better... right?

"Um... don't think too much about it, intern. The Security Bureau is just a job. You can do whatever you want for how much money you get. Don't work too hard. When your head gets hot, just think about your parents who care about you at home."
Yu Zhesen waved to her while retreating out of the door: "Then... you have a good rest, I won't disturb you anymore."

He exited the ward and left Chu Yuexi's sight, and trotted to catch up with the elevator that happened to stop on this floor.

There was only one person in the elevator, wearing a caregiver's clothes and a mask.

Yu Zhesen didn't look at him and stood in another corner consciously.

As the elevator door closed and it started to go down, he heard the carer who was riding with him say hello: "Hello, lucky guy."
