Chapter 12 The Maverick's Two Birthdays (Part 2)

As a celebrity in the history of physics, Xiao Niu’s birthday is somewhat special in the 21st century.

Because if you look it up, you'll find that he has two birthdays:

January 4, 1643 and December 25, 1642.

The reason for this situation is attributed to calendar issues. In fact, both birthdays are accurate.

However, the one on December 25th uses the Julian calendar, and the one on January 4th uses the Gregorian calendar.

The so-called Julian calendar is a calendar issued by the ancient Roman dictator Julius Caesar in 46 BC - the same thing that was kicked by some bat spirit.

The Julian calendar is a solar calendar, and the time it takes for the earth to revolve around the sun, that is, the tropical year, is defined as one year.

But anyone familiar with geography knows that the Tropical Year is not an integer in terms of days, but 365.2422 days.

The Julian calendar sets a year to 365 days, which is slightly less than a tropical year. Therefore, a leap year is set up every four years, with 366 days in a leap year.

This averages out to 365.25 days per year, which is 0.0078 days more than the year of return.

According to simple mathematical multiplication, the Julian calendar will have 3 extra days on average every 400 years, and after more than 1500 years, it will have 10 extra days.

So in 1582, Pope Gregory issued an order:

That year was 10 days short, so the day after October 4, 1582 was not October 5, but October 15.

At the same time, the idea of leap years is changed. Any year that is divisible by 4 is a leap year. However, when the year is followed by a "century year" with two "0"s, the year must be divisible by 400 to be a leap year.

In this way, the average year has 365.2425 days, which is 26 seconds longer than the tropical year. It will take about 3000 years for there to be an error of one day.

This new calendar was called the Gregorian calendar, which is the Gregorian calendar in use today.

The date when the Julian calendar was implemented was 1582, but Britain was not a Catholic country and did not obey the Pope's orders, so they delayed the switch to the Gregorian calendar until 1752.

In other words, when the calf was born, Britain was still using the Julian calendar.

Therefore, in English literature, it is customary to use the Julian calendar to calculate Newton's birthday, which is December 25, 1642.

In addition, there are many countries that used the Gregorian calendar later than the United Kingdom. For example, Russia is a typical example. It did not switch from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar until 1919.

For example, the Russian October Revolution historically occurred on November 7, 1917, but why is it called October?

Because Russia was still using the Julian calendar at that time, that day was October 25, 1917 in the Julian calendar.

However, after other countries switched to the Gregorian calendar, the Orthodox churches in Russia and other countries still insisted on using the Julian calendar.

So here's a very interesting thing in these countries:

They actually celebrated Christmas on January 7th in the Gregorian calendar. (If you are interested, you can search it. The author was embarrassed because of this incident...)

Born on Christmas Day, I was bullied when I was young, and I have always been a very devout Christian.

Therefore, during the years when Mr. Niu was still alive, he always believed that he was one of the few chosen by God, and that he had the responsibility and obligation to restore the tampered teachings to their original state.

Mr. Niu wrote about 16.7 million words of various works in his life, about 84% of which were theological works, so he was originally a great theologian, and he studied physics to better prove the existence of God.

——Lao Niu’s theological journey in his life has even become an independent topic in later academic circles, and the related citation factor is not low.

However, because Mr. Niu’s beliefs are slightly different from today’s teachings, Mr. Xiao Niu is still just a youth and has no right to speak.

Therefore, he has never dared to make his inner thoughts public, and could only pretend to be an ordinary student who loves theology and remain silent.

But I didn't expect that today...

The secret hidden in my heart coincides with the 'this son' mentioned by a foreigner?

This foreign culture’s definition of ‘this type of person’ has undoubtedly given Mavericks a highly effective shot in the arm!

This is just like using phosphorus powder to pretend to be a will-o'-the-wisp. For people with scientific knowledge, it will be exposed in minutes, but for people who believe in ghosts and gods, it is just "Tao Dharma".

Therefore, for the first time, classmate Xiao Niu looked at Xu Yun differently...

He even patted Xu Yun's shoulder in a rare move. In his excitement, the wig on his head almost shook off.

If Newton's favorability towards Xu Yun had a progress bar at this time, it would have jumped by 20%.

Newton, who was in a good mood, couldn't help but touch the copper base again, then turned to Xu Yun and said:

"Feiyu, let me take you out and have a look."

Naturally, Xu Yun would not refuse:

"Sorry to trouble you, Mr. Isaac."

Then, under the leadership of classmate Xiao Niu, the two walked out of the room for the first time.

In 1665, Britain had not yet carried out the industrial revolution, coal had not yet begun to become a popular fuel, and the famous "smoke" had not yet appeared.

Therefore, the main source of domestic fog is the convergence of warmer currents in the North Atlantic and cooler currents in the British Isles. At the same time, a large amount of warm air blowing from the sea meets the cooler air masses over the islands, forming sea fog and land fog.

Although this natural mist is equally thick, it does not give people a sense of despair and suffocation, nor does it carry blood, tears and sin.

In addition, the weather is quite good today, so at a glance, the rural atmosphere of the 17th century is still very strong.

Of course, the 'smell of life' is equally strong - one of the smells comes from the calves.

After all, if you are a physicist, you will not stay away from me just because you are a physicist.

According to records in Lao Niu's manuscripts compiled by Michael White, when he was studying, Mr. Niu would take a bath in a public bathhouse in London on average once a month and a half, and the rest was the baptism session during mass.

There are no bathing facilities like those in London in Lincolnshire at the moment, so the smell of Maverick's body is quite unique.

Perhaps because Xu Yun's previous description of 'this boy' was in line with his heart, Maverick's attitude at this time was much more enthusiastic than before.

I saw him pointing to the north of the house and taking the initiative to introduce:

"Fat Fish, there is Woolsthorpe's only windmill in that direction, and the flour used by every household to make bread is ground from there.

But if you want to grind noodles, you'd better get in line early, otherwise there will be a group of aunts standing there watching you, and those village women will be a little bit tongue-tied - especially your oriental appearance, it's really... curious."

After hearing Newton's words, Xu Yun, who had been calm before, suddenly had a picture of a bunch of aunts pointing at him in his mind:

"Look at him, Mrs. Lennon, he looks even stranger than Benjamin next door."

"Aunt George, please stop your stupid prairie dog behavior, it's rude!"

"Oh, my dear God, you have fallen in love with this young man, right? If Uncle Henry sees it, he will go crazy!"

Thinking of this, Xu Yun immediately broke out in a line of cold sweat on his forehead:

Good guy, the village aunt is indeed a creature that is almost inexplicable in ancient and modern times, both at home and abroad...

Then Mavericks introduced several other less obvious locations, and finally patted Xu Yun on the shoulder:

"Fat Fish, come with me."

Only then did Xu Yun regain his composure, and obediently followed classmate Xiao Niu for a few steps, arriving outside a low storage room.

Then Maverick took out an ancient key from his body. The appearance was extremely rough and even had some decaying rust. The modern pinball lock would not be invented until 1860 by Neilus Yale Jr. Before that,

The lock is not even close to the level of craftsmanship.

Then Mavericks twisted the lock a few times, pushed open the wooden door, and took out two axes.

Looking at classmate Xiaoniu who looked like a Liangshan hero, Xu Yun couldn't help but feel curious on his face:

"Mr. Isaac, are we going to...?"

"Chop some wood, and then I will take you to my uncle's house to meet you. We will all have dinner at his place. Don't worry, my cousins are all very cute."

"Oh, uncle's house..."

Xu Yun nodded subconsciously, but the next second, he suddenly realized something, and his eyes were as big as thirty-one Li Ronghao:

"Wait, cousin?"

The most important thing about new books is collecting and reading, and then monthly tickets and recommendations. I think it’s okay to have them all?ε(*?ω?)_/?:?☆....
