Chapter 120 Disadvantages of Distillation.

"water......"

in the house.

Hear this tiny hum.

The three people present were stunned at first.

Then he lowered his head almost simultaneously and looked at Wang Yue on the bed.

I only see this moment.

Wang Yue on the bed had opened his eyes slightly, and the corners of his cracked and crusted mouth twitched thinly.

Although his eyes were still dim and lifeless, he had obviously regained some consciousness.

"Water...I want water..."

When Xu Yun heard this, he quickly poured a glass of water from the table and handed it to Wang Chen:

"Captain, here you go."

Wang Zhen took the water glass, held his brother's shoulder with one hand, and handed the water to his mouth with the other hand:

"You're right, the water is here, drink it quickly."

"Well....."

Wang Yue relied on instinct to drink up the water, his chest rising and falling several times.

After calming down his breath, he looked around vaguely:

"Zhengchen, where is this place?"

Lao Su on the side saw this and stepped forward. He first briefly measured Wang Yue's forehead temperature with his hand, and then asked:

"Zhengru, do you recognize me?"

Wang Yue opened his eyes a little harder with some effort, looked at Lao Su, and said after a moment:

"Are you... Uncle Su?"

"Yes, it's me."

Lao Su nodded and sighed:

"You are correct, you were attacked by Xia thieves at night not long ago and were seriously injured. The envoy of the Privy Council sent you back to Bianjing. Your condition is critical...

That’s all, I’ll explain everything in detail to you later, so you don’t need to ask any more questions, it’s important to recover.”

Wang Yue hummed in confusion.

At this time, he had just returned from the gate of hell and could not remember what happened in the past.

I just felt a tight pain in my chest and head, as if my body was about to be torn apart, and I couldn't lift the slightest strength.

However, my brother and Uncle Su are both trustworthy and close people, so naturally they cannot lie to or harm me...

Think about it.

Wang Yue felt tired again, and soon fell into a deep sleep, with snoring ringing from his nose.

Looking at Wang Yue, whose breathing was gradually becoming more steady, Lao Su first tucked up the quilt for him, and then looked at Xu Yun with complicated eyes.

If before that, he thought Xu Yun was trying to show his presence, then Wang Yue's situation now is enough to illustrate...

He couldn't be more wrong.

But he didn't feel ashamed, angry or slapped in the face. On the contrary, he had many questions that he desperately wanted answered.

This old man, who has reached the end of his life, has a strong desire for knowledge that he has not seen for a long time.

But before Lao Su spoke, Wang Zhen beside him made a move first.

I saw this cold-faced man taking one step forward and walking up to Xu Yun.

Without saying a word, he bowed down like someone pushing down a mountain of gold and a jade pillar:

"My brother's life-saving grace will be unforgettable by Wang Zhen!"

Xu Yun guessed Wang Zhen's intention long before he joined his hands, so when Wang Zhen bowed, he turned slightly to one side to avoid the salute:

"The captain is very polite. The middle lord is a good person and the heaven is a good match. The villain is just the icing on the cake."

"The icing on the cake? If this were the icing on the cake, there would be no help in the world."

When Lao Su on the side heard this, he shook his head seriously, with a slightly complicated tone:

"If you hadn't taken action today, Zheng Ru would have died without a doubt, Wang Lin, you don't have to be too modest.

It’s just that I really didn’t expect that...the problem of feces and water entering the body can be solved by using garlic?

Wang Lin, which famous doctor did your ancestors have?"

"I don't dare to be a famous doctor."

Xu Yun waved his hand modestly and replied:

"The villain's great-great-grandfather was just a wandering doctor. He passed down this recipe before his death. The villain only knows that he was originally a Taoist priest and came from a sect called Fengling Yueying Sect..."

Lao Su blinked:

"Fengling Yueying Sect? It turns out they are from outside the country."

In the late Song Dynasty, there were many folk sects and various sects and sects abounded, including some famous figures.

For example, in Bianjing at this time, there was a Taoist named Lin Lingsu who was extremely famous and was called a true immortal in the world.

This man was also one of the founders of the Shenxiao sect in later generations. According to the historical trajectory, he would be appreciated by Song Huizong in a few years and hired as a national master.

At the peak of his career, he was so powerful that even Cai Jing didn't give him face.

Therefore, Lao Su was not very unfamiliar with the concept of sect. After chanting the name of sect twice, he changed the topic and asked:

"Wang Lin, did your ancestor leave behind the principle of garlic juice to cure diseases?"

When Xu Yun heard this, the corner of his mouth curved slightly.

I knew you would ask this.

However, predictions are predictions, and Xu Yun is not ready to tell the other party the answer right now.

After all, the value he is preparing to show is not just an allicin:

"Of course there are, but sir, the Lord is not out of danger right now, should we first..."

When Lao Su heard this, he was stunned, and then he slapped his head in annoyance:

"I'm ashamed, I'm so happy to see you, I almost missed a big event. Wang Lin, how should I treat you next?"

Xu Yun thought for a while and said:

"First of all, of course, we need to prepare allicin. To be honest, the preparation of allicin requires the use of a special liquid, and it cannot be made by simply pounding garlic.

The garlic juice that the villain used to give to Zhonghou was added with the finished liquid that the villain carried with him, and now it has all been used up.

If you want to make it again, I'm afraid you will need some special equipment."

Lao Su glanced at the container Xu Yun placed on the bedside, thought for a few seconds, and asked:

"But that liquor-like liquid?"

Xu Yun nodded, applauding Old Su's sharp thinking in his heart:

"Yes, this thing is called alcohol, which means the essence of wine. It is much more powerful than ordinary spirits."

“What materials are needed to prepare alcohol?”

Xu Yun continued:

"Two glass bottles and a few bent copper tubes, these two things are essential.

In addition, a large amount of liquor, spinilline and extremely fine table salt are required.

By the way, prepare some asbestos sheets too."

Lao Su picked up a pen and paper from the table and wrote down these names with a look of confusion and curiosity:

"You only need these to make the alcohol you mentioned?"

This chapter is not over yet, please click on the next page to continue reading! Xu Yun nodded:

"That's right."

"What's the principle?"

"Distillation."

Distillation.

In the 21st century, this word is basically a concept that all junior high school students know.

The concept of alcohol distillation is very simple:

The boiling point of water is 100 degrees and the boiling point of ethanol is 78 degrees. Taking advantage of the different boiling points of the two, you can use distillation to obtain higher concentration of alcohol.

That is, if alcohol and water are mixed together and you turn on the fire to 80 degrees, the alcohol will boil but the water will not.

The boiled alcohol condenses into another cup, and a high-concentration alcohol solution can be obtained.

However, this concept is easy to say, but very troublesome to practice.

The specific reason involves a small amount of chemical engineering thermodynamics knowledge.

As we all know.

The critical point of temperature at which the first bubbles separate from the liquid phase of a mixture is called the bubble point, and the critical point of temperature when the liquid phase appears after the gas phase reaches saturation is called the dew point.

Seeing this, some students are starting to get confused. It doesn't matter, the concept is not important.

The important thing is.

The vapor-liquid equilibrium data of binary mixtures can be viewed through the binary vapor-liquid equilibrium phase diagram.

For example, using the mass fraction of ethanol as the horizontal axis and temperature as the vertical axis, a simple phase diagram coordinate system can be drawn.

When the temperature increases, the system enters the gas phase region.

As the temperature decreases, the system will enter the liquid phase.

Suppose it is a 40-degree alcohol solution and it is heated to the boiling point of ethanol T = 78 degrees. In theory, the alcohol will evaporate at this time, right?

But during actual operation, you will find that the system stays stably in the liquid phase and does not boil at all.

At this time, the temperature needs to continue to rise to a temperature between 78-100 degrees to reach the bubble point line, and then gas will be generated.

However, in order to achieve gas-liquid balance here, it is obvious that the composition of the gas phase also has requirements, that is, at the point corresponding to the same temperature on the dew point line, the alcohol content produced is x2.

And you will find that as the purity of the alcohol increases, the required temperature will also be higher.

In other words, when you get to the end, the temperatures at which water and alcohol evaporate will be nearly the same.

Therefore, the purity of alcohol that can be produced by ordinary distillation is only about 95% in practical operations, and may only reach 80% in ancient times.

Although this purity is enough to cope with most situations, as a patient with obsessive-compulsive disorder, Xu Yun obviously will not be satisfied.

This led to the two things he proposed later:

spinillium and fine table salt.

With the help of these two things, the alcohol concentration can be further improved, even reaching the level of three nines.

The eyes are returning to reality.

Considering that the dose of allicin produced by Xu Yun for the first time was limited, even though there were countless ants crawling in Lao Su's heart, he could only suppress his emotions temporarily and summoned Mr. Xie to prepare various materials.

.

that's all.

Two hours flew by.

When the time came to Youshi, which was around seven o'clock in the evening, Mr. Xie finally found all the materials.

Friends who have done distillation experiments should know this.

Distillation generally uses spherical flasks, but the current situation is special and it is impossible to find fully compliant equipment.

Governor Xie used almost all the connections Lao Su had while working to get a few spherical glass bottles together.

On the contrary, the process related to copper pipes was not difficult. Mr. Xie directly found a few copper pipes from the warehouse of the courtyard.

Although Lao Su was an upright official, his family was still quite rich. After all, this was the Song Dynasty.

According to the current price conversion, Lao Su's annual income is probably equivalent to 8 million after tax in later generations. This kind of salary is considered a high-income group even in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.

Xu Yun then combined several objects into a simple distillation equipment and poured the liquor that Mr. Xie bought from Fanlou, the first restaurant in Bianjing, into the flask.

Before the Yuan Dynasty, ancient Chinese wines were basically fermented wines, with an altitude of about ten degrees.

Some of them also have a lot of grain residue, so they are called "turbid wine".

The few jars of wine that Mr. Xie bought back have a concentration of about 20 degrees, and they are brewed with bran koji. Basically, they can be said to be the wine with the highest concentration that can be found today.

in short.....

Just make do with it.

After everything is ready.

Xu Yun put on the asbestos net and lit a fire on the simply modified stove.

Lao Su looked around like a curious baby, looking at the flask with his head sideways for a while:

"Wang Lin, what's the point of putting asbestos on the bottom of the cup?"

While Xu Yun was controlling the amount of fire below, since there was no such thing as an alcohol lamp these days, he explained to Lao Su:

"The main purpose is to prevent the distillation flasks...these glass bottles from breaking due to uneven heating, and they play a role in dispersing the heat."

Lao Su nodded thoughtfully, then thought about it and walked to the other side of the stove.

I randomly selected a pot and turned it over.

It can be clearly seen that the marks in the middle of the iron pot are much heavier than those on the edges.

"Heated evenly... evenly..."

Looking at the pot in his hand, Lao Su suddenly realized that there seemed to be a lot of knowledge in the world that he didn't know...

Two quarters of an hour later.

The first batch of wine was successfully distilled.

Xu Yun poured out a small glass of wine and handed it to Lao Su:

"Would you like to try it?"

Lao Su took the wine glass with great interest, first put it in front of him to look at it for a while, then put it to his mouth and took a sip.

After a few seconds, the little old man suddenly raised his eyebrows:

“What a strong drink!”

Seeing this, Xu Yun nodded slightly.

The alcohol content of the first batch of distilled alcohol could reach about 35 degrees, which was undoubtedly a very strong alcohol for people of this era.

At the same time, because it was distilled once, this wine is also called Yiguotou.

That's right.

One pot head.

Many students may not know that the so-called Erguotou is not a brand, but actually refers to the alcohol distilled in the second round, with an alcohol content of about 56-63.

Useless knowledge has increased.jpg.

Xu Yun then processed the distilled wine again and conducted a second round of distillation.

This chapter is not over yet, please click on the next page to continue reading! The second round of distillation took significantly longer than the first round. A full half an hour passed before the second round of distillation was successful.

Then comes the third round…

An hour later.

Looking at the thick liquid in front of him, Xu Yun shook his head slightly.

Perhaps due to insufficient equipment preparation, the alcohol concentration after three rounds of distillation only reached about 70%, which is significantly different from 80%.

Reaching this step basically means that local distillation has reached its upper limit.

To further purify, either use an entrainer such as benzene or pressure swing distillation.

Either that...

Use spinillin and table salt prepared by Xu Yun.

Spindle base is baking soda, the main component is sodium bicarbonate.

It is easily soluble in water and slightly soluble in ethanol, and easily absorbs water to form sodium bicarbonate monohydrate or decahydrate.

The composition of table salt is even simpler.

Mainly sodium chloride, easily soluble in water and slightly soluble in ethanol.

This desiccant is commonly used in organic experiments to dehydrate solvents.

Xu Yun plans to first use sodium bicarbonate to take away the water in the system, and then use excess sodium chloride to remove the remaining water in the system.

In this way, it is not difficult to produce an alcohol concentration of not only 99%, but 95%.

Xu Yun then put the baking soda into the alcohol solution. Within a few minutes, a large amount of powdery precipitate appeared at the bottom.

Xu Yun filtered out the precipitate, poured the solution into a new container, added salt, stirred and let it sit.

Twenty minutes later.

An extremely pungent smell appeared.

As a master of biology, Xu Yun can basically judge that the target alcohol concentration is at least 95% the moment he smells the smell.

Lao Su on the side was curious and took a small spoon, scooped some alcohol from the bottle, and tasted a little without fear of death.

As soon as I entered the mouth, I choked and coughed repeatedly.

after awhile.

Lao Su rubbed his neck, which was still a little spicy, and said to Xu Yun:

"Wang Lin, after the alcohol is made, the next step is to make the garlic juice for external application, right?"

However, what surprised him was that Xu Yun shook his head:

"Master, do you still remember what I said at the beginning? If you want to completely cure Zhonghou's disease, external application alone is not enough. You must use other methods."

Lao Su blinked and guessed:

"If it's not for external application, then is it for swallowing?"

"Well... you may not know that allicin is very ineffective when swallowed, and alcohol can also have a harmful effect on the stomach, so it is better to apply it externally."

"What about that?"

"....Have you ever heard of intravenous injection?"
