Chapter 413 I am not suitable for studying Buddhism
[Ding!-500 payment successful!]
The intelligent abbot smiled broadly and pronounced the Buddha's name again.
"Donor Meng is still so kind and generous!"
"Master, thank you for the award. This Grand Palace seems to be more magnificent than the last time I came here."
Meng Lang looked at the bright yellow new futon in front of him and the increasingly shining Third World Buddha.
"Haha! Thanks to your blessing, our temple has been slightly repaired. Donor Meng does not want others to know about his good deeds, and he gives without asking for anything in return. His merits are immeasurable and there is no greater kindness!"
The smart master was naturally referring to the previous "Human Trafficking Gang Case". Meng Lang didn't take any of the reward from the police at that time, and donated it all to Nanshan Temple.
Lin Haitang on the side was a little confused.
Don’t want others to know you do good deeds? Donate without expecting anything in return?
What did he do in Nanshan Temple?
Judging from the abbot’s warm hospitality throughout the entire journey, he is as good as a senior VIP among pilgrims…
"I wonder if the donor came here today to ask for a fortune? Or to return a wish?"
As he said that, he glanced at Lin Haitang with a smile.
I beg for a single dog in front of me, and a loving dog after me...could it be that the marriage fortune-telling from before has come true?
But...it seemed that last time, what I asked for was a bet and a lottery?
"Ahem! Although your temple's fortune-telling is indeed very effective, I am not here to ask for fortune-telling today. I am here specifically to see the wisdom master."
"Looking for me?" The smart master was stunned for a moment.
"Yes!" Meng Lang nodded and looked at the wise master in front of him seriously, "I heard that the master's Dharma is profound, I have some doubts in my heart, and I hope to get some guidance from the master."
"Huh?" The smart master suddenly looked surprised.
"Have you heard? Where did Master Meng hear this? The poor monk is just a small abbot of Nanshan Temple, and he doesn't dare to say that Buddhism is profound."
"Haha!" Meng Lang showed a smile that saw everything through.
"Master is too modest. How come the eminent monk of Longquan Temple and the master lecturer of the Water and Land Dharma Association in Beijing dare not say that the Dharma is profound?"
Zhi Zhi looked stunned.
Just as stunned as him was Lin Haitang beside him.
This Nanshan Temple is located in a remote place and looks inconspicuous. I haven't even seen a single pilgrim for a long time. I didn't expect that the old abbot monk would have such a big background?
Although it was incredible, she had no doubts about Meng Lang's intelligence ability.
"How did Master Meng know this?" Zhi Zhi did not deny it, but just asked out of curiosity.
"Of course I found out by fate." Meng Lang replied with a smile.
"Destined?"
Zhi Zhi was stunned for a moment, then smiled and nodded, "Yes! The donor and I are indeed destined!"
"Since the master is an eminent monk in the capital, how come he is here?" Lin Haitang asked curiously.
"Haha! Being too deeply involved in the world will hinder your spiritual practice. It is better to be as pure as this small Nanshan Temple."
These days, there is an endless stream of pilgrims to some famous temples, and there are almost no monks there who are not smelly of copper.
The monks in this kind of environment are not going to practice, they are just going to provoke the world of mortals.
Faith has slowly turned into business. There are fewer and fewer monks practicing, but more and more monks doing business...
"Master doesn't care about fame and fortune, which is admirable!" Meng Lang said with a smile.
"Fame and wealth are just fleeting clouds that cover people's eyes. It's better to have a pure mind and be at ease in everything!"
Smart put his hands together and smiled like the breeze and the bright moon, without the philistine expression just now.
Meng Lang's eyes lit up.
"To be honest, Master, I came here to find the pure Dharma of freedom!"
"Oh?" Zhi Zhi looked surprised.
"What kind of Dharma does Master Meng want to learn?"
"Nature is the great freedom of becoming a Buddha!"
Zhi Zhi smiled. "Then what is 'Buddha' in the mind of Benefactor Meng?"
"The Buddha before and after the Buddha only talks about his heart. The heart is the Buddha, and the Buddha is the heart. There is no Buddha outside the heart, and there is no heart outside the Buddha."
Xue Huaiyi's scriptures believe that only by knowing one's mind and seeing nature, and having no external objects in one's mind, can we be consistent and minimize the impact of the countless "selves" in the book on the "original self".
So whatever color your original self is, the rest of you will also be the same color.
Then naturally "I" will always be "I"!
"Huh? I didn't expect that Benefactor Meng would actually be involved in the mind philosophy of the Consciousness Only Sect of Buddhism?
Does the donor know what ‘no mind outside the Buddha’ means?”
The surprise on Zhi Zhi's face has turned into surprise.
"Well...the Buddha has found his true self. The Buddha has no mind outside of him. He just keeps his true mind. Apart from me, there is no other Buddha.
I was about to ask the master how to ‘have no mind outside the Buddha’?” Meng Lang asked.
"Except for this mind, there is no other Buddha to be found, and there is no point in looking for Bodhi and Nirvana apart from this mind.
If you want to find the Buddha, you must directly see your nature.
Nature is the Buddha, and the Buddha is the free man who does nothing and does nothing.
If you see your nature, you are the Buddha, if you don't see your nature, you are all living beings..." Zhizhi replied.
"I am still a sentient being, how can I see my nature?"
“The reason why we are sentient beings is only because our delusional thoughts and attachments cover up our Buddha nature. If we can extinguish our delusional thoughts and attachments, our Buddha nature will naturally appear.
All the evil deeds I have done in the past were all caused by beginningless greed, hatred, and ignorance, from body, speech, and mind. I regret all of them now..."
“Repentance can lead to ‘Buddha-free mind’?”
"Of course not. People have eight consciousnesses: eye consciousness, ear consciousness, nose consciousness, tongue consciousness, body consciousness, six body consciousnesses, and even 'manas consciousness' and 'alaya consciousness'.
The Buddha's outer mind is the seventh consciousness, 'mana consciousness', which is always associated with the four troubles of delusion, self-conception, self-arrogance, and self-love.
Its nature is "there is nothing to remember", which means it does not produce strange fruits, but it can overturn the holy path and obscure the nature of the mind!
This consciousness is the root of self-grasping. If you cling to delusion, it will create all kinds of bad karma. On the contrary, it will eliminate the evil karma of troubles, so it is called stained and pure consciousness.
Only by eradicating the four afflictions, thoroughly understanding the truth of the two emptiness of human dharma, and clearly understanding the eighth fundamental consciousness ‘alaya consciousness’ can we achieve ‘no mind outside the Buddha’.”
"However, all dharmas have no self. Since beginningless time, Manas consciousness has always held Alaya consciousness as me, reincarnating at the same time as Alaya consciousness, flowing through life and death.
Since mana consciousness is also in reincarnation, how can it not overturn the holy path and obscure the nature of the mind?"
"The six consciousnesses are pure and pure, and the six consciousnesses are stained and stained. The 'mana consciousness' is divided into good and bad, but the 'alaya consciousness' is the most delusional.
Since 'alaya consciousness' is the fundamental consciousness, the first seven consciousnesses all rely on the eighth consciousness, alaya consciousness, to circulate.
This is the ‘Alaya origin’…”
Above the Mahavira Hall, under the Third Buddha, there is an old man and a young man.
An in-depth and friendly discussion was held on questions such as "Who am I? How did I come to be? Am I really who I am?" etc...
Lin Haitang on the side was dumbfounded.
At first I could understand a few words, but later I became a Muggle.
Meng Lang... is actually studying Buddhism?
What level of "can't figure it out" requires this level of "clarification"?
And...it's only been a few days? You can fight with the preaching master from the capital for 300 rounds?
Is this scientific?
Even if the end of science is theology, this is too amazing...
Hey, wait! With the way he studies hard...
What I said before about "escaping into Buddhism"... couldn't you be serious?
Lin Haitang looked at Meng Lang, who looked serious, as if he was studying some life-and-death problem of the century, and began to realize the seriousness of the problem...
I have seen people who were unable to commit suicide because of love, and I have never seen people who were unable to leave home because of love...
Her mind was in a mess, and Meng Lang's voice of "studying Buddhism" rang in her ears, which made her even more upset.
Seeing the two of them chatting, they actually sat on the futon, looking like they were sorry to meet each other late and were having a long conversation. It seemed that the discussion could not be finished for a while.
Lin Haitang had no choice but to walk out of the Main Hall quietly.
I walked around aimlessly and was watching the scenery in the temple out of boredom, when I suddenly saw futons and lottery tubes placed in a side hall in front of me.
Hmm... I just heard from Meng Lang that the lottery in this temple seems to be very effective...
I don’t know what my psychology was, but somehow, I slowly walked in...
"Click!" "Click!"
Lin Haitang stood up and picked up the fallen bamboo stick.
Then I found the corresponding signature based on the numbers above...
“Looking at each other five hundred times in the previous life, only to rub shoulders with each other once in this life.
It takes a hundred lifetimes to cross the same boat, and a thousand lifetimes to sleep together..."
…
The sun is gradually setting in the west.
In the Main Hall, Meng Lang's frowning brows had now relaxed.
Sure enough, you can't do anything behind closed doors. It's extraordinary to have an eminent monk at your side to give guidance, and your experience points will keep rising!
Many obscure and difficult questions in the scriptures were suddenly revealed.
The eminent monk that the brothers introduced to me is indeed a good one!
His brows relaxed, but the intelligence master opposite him was down...
Buddhas are people from the past, people are Buddhas from the future...
Who is reincarnating? Why does reincarnation involve life and death? And who thinks I am reincarnating?
I originally planned to help people solve their doubts, but why is my head buzzing now...
Meng Lang was still discussing with him at first, asking for advice.
But the deeper you go, the more you discover some strange worldviews that make people feel paradoxical, familiar, and vague.
Buddhas are people from the past, people are Buddhas from the future...
The intelligence master chewed on Meng Lang's words over and over again, thinking about the series of weird questions the other party had just asked.
The more I chew, the more wonderful it becomes...
Since Buddhism has been passed down to this day, almost all the classics have been thoroughly studied. It is very difficult for people today to introduce new ones.
However, Meng Lang's previous words, although not profound, gave him a sense of novelty: "Huh? Can you still understand it this way?"
This kind of novelty is enough to make an eminent monk like him think about it for a long time...
“Thank you, Master Smart, for clarifying my doubts today!”
"Where! I didn't expect that Meng Xiaoyou, at such an age, would have such attainments in Buddhism. It's really amazing!
I wonder who my little friend is studying under?”
In his opinion, since Meng Lang knew about his past and was so proficient in Buddhism, he must have had a great disciple from a famous teacher.
Maybe he also knew Meng Lang's master.
From "Meng Benefactor" to "Meng Xiaoyou", it is obvious that in the eyes of this master, Meng Lang has changed from an outsider to a fellow believer with whom he can sit and discuss...
Who did you study under?
Meng Lang thought for a while.
I said Bodhidharma, Xuanzang and Xue Huaiyi... Well! Plus the collective wisdom of the brothers, there should be nothing wrong, right?
"Ahem! I just figured it out when I had some free time.
I... really like to get into trouble, haha..."
Did you figure it out on your own?
The intelligence master was stunned for a moment, then smiled and shook his head.
"The donor is indeed extremely talented!
However, judging from the confusion raised by the little friend just now, Buddhism, which pursues ‘the realization that everything is empty’, is probably not very suitable for the little friend to understand.”
"Well..." Meng Lang sighed slightly when he heard this.
How could he not notice it...
After all, I am not a serious monk who can achieve the purity of the six roots. What's more, I am still wallowing in the world of mortals, and there is even greater horror in life and death...
What kind of love threads, worries threads... I'm afraid even three thousand threads can't stop them.
Even Xue Huaiyi, the senior who became a monk on the way, was inevitably "died young". As a "lay disciple", if he wanted to cross the river by feeling the stones, he would probably only be able to touch the middle of the river...
Even if he has thoroughly studied this scripture, it is probably similar to Nie Feng's recitation of "If your heart is as clear as ice, you will not be surprised if the sky falls" when he was possessed by demons.
The effect is there, but not much...
"Haha! If you are willing, little friend, you can go beyond the family. Why don't you try the Taoist method of 'keeping one'?"
"Taoist?"
"Yes, Buddhism and Taoism have the same origin.
The Buddha entered the Tao through annihilation, performed ruthless acts, and left the world to stand.
The Tao indeed maintains oneness, but oneness refers to the mind and not the matter. It is the oneness of the mind. If the mind is constant and permanent, then you will have eternal life.
Tao follows the heaven and earth and follows nature, Yin and Yang are all-encompassing and all-encompassing, so Laozi said that Tao is the most important of the four major elements in the universe.
It’s not just Buddhism, it’s called all sentient beings and all dharma, and it’s not without the word Tao.
I see that my little friend’s character may be more in line with this Taoism.”
Taoism?
Meng Lang fell into deep thought.
In fact, after Buddhism was introduced to China, it merged with local sects and learned from each other, and it had long been separated from the original birthplace of Buddhism.
Bodhidharma's "Zen" incorporates a large number of traditional Confucian and Taoist philosophies.
Meng Lang has been studying the Huayan Sutra these days, and he does have a vague feeling...
The self-help route of "seniors" is to learn Buddhism, but the "predecessors" of "seniors" have always studied Taoism!
It is said that Comrade Jiang Ziya lived to be 139 years old.
This is definitely an extremely enviable lifespan, but...
The biggest problem is that it was so long ago that there are very few written records left.
Even Xue Huaiyi, an archaeologist from "a thousand years later" is embarrassed, let alone him from "two thousand years later"...
Crossing the river by touching the stones of an "ancestral" senior like Jiang Ziya?
Not to mention stones, you can almost only touch stone chips like this...
I also want to learn, but conditions don’t allow it!
However, when it comes to Buddhism and Taoism having the same origin, in fact the most integrated form of Zen is Taoism, especially the theory of Zhuangzi, which is why there is a saying that "Buddha is originally Tao".
And speaking of Zhuangzi... that was definitely a mudslide in the cultural circle of the Warring States Period!
This guy says he is a subjective idealist, but in the end he just follows his heart!
However, I am sharp-tongued and aggressive, don't like work and love freedom, and I am very tolerant.
It's euphemistically called "Happy Journey", but actually it just means two words - "Happiness"!
Zhuangzi said: Rule by doing nothing, your nature is sacred!
Because of the sacred nature, Zhuangzi advocated that the highest state of the world is to be without waiting, not relying on other things, and living a happy life.
That’s why “heaven and earth exist side by side with me, and all things are one with me.”
This is the famous Taoist "unity of man and nature".
Because of his divine nature, Zhuangzi was dissatisfied with the chaotic state of things being divided among various schools of thought, and was especially dissatisfied with the scientific spirit of famous scholars who wanted to get to the bottom of things.
He believes that there is no limit to learning and life is short, so there is no need to worry about it...
Two words... lie down!
If this guy is also his "senior"...
Then his choice is probably to delete the "technical appendix" to reduce the burden on the brain, so that the brothers can have no work or study, have houses and fields at home, and live a happy life...
Hmm...how long has Zhuangzi lived?
It seems to be more than eighty?
Based on the average life expectancy at that time, this person was definitely a birthday boy!
This is an idea...
Could this be the third way to solve one's own rift - just be happy and that's all?
I am happy, and so are the brothers. Then after "all things are one with me"...
Am I twice as happy?
…
When he walked out of the Mahavira Palace with the Master of Intelligence, Meng Lang was still thinking about the "way to happiness" just now, wondering how he could be as heartless as Zhuangzi...
As a result, as soon as I went out, I saw a graceful lady in the courtyard, holding her fragrant cheeks, sitting in a daze under a Bodhi tree.
The beauty is picturesque, the breeze blows, fluttering the skirts of her clothes...
What is happiness?
Happiness is when you...
Happiness is...
Like...
Similar to that or something...
There was silence for a moment.
Meng Lang turned his head and expressed his gratitude to the intelligent master with a serious look on his face.
"Master's advice, I also feel that I am not suitable for learning Buddhism..."
