Chapter Fifty-Six: The Crazies of Those Years

Before this, Xu Cheng had many speculations about the principal's true identity.

Deep space? Star Chamber of Commerce? Witnesses?

After all, he is an eighty-six-year-old man. It is not surprising what kind of secrets such a person hides.

But the principal calmly narrated an astonishing statement——

"Once upon a time, we old guys shared the same name."

"We are - Legion."

Legion.

Xu Cheng had never heard these two words in anyone's mind.

But from what the principal said, the Legion seems to be the "predecessor" of the Eyewitnesses, the Star Chamber of Commerce, the Deep Space Society, and even more other extraordinary forces.

What kind of organization is that?

The principal's fingers lightly brushed over the yellowed old photo.

The distance was relatively far and the pixels were very low, so Xu Cheng couldn't see the specific content clearly.

But it should be a group photo with many people on it.

The principal looked at the photo and suddenly asked another question:

"When did you come into contact with the extraordinary?"

Xu Cheng smiled lightly and said bluntly: "Soon."

The principal didn't believe it. She thought it was because Xu Cheng didn't want to confess to a stranger, so she simply continued:

"I've been a principal for so long, so I'm pretty good at judging people."

"You are not from the Star Chamber of Commerce or deep space, and you are not an eyewitness."

"You should be an ordinary person who has accidentally come into contact with extraordinary power, right?"

Xu Cheng took a sip of coffee and nodded in agreement.

The principal suddenly asked another question:

"Based on your current knowledge, what stage do you think the contact between strange creatures and humans is at?"

The teacher asked and the students answered.

Xu Cheng thought for a while and two words came to his mind: "War?"

Witnesses walked in the dark night and fought off the strange invading creatures again and again. The word "war" is very appropriate to describe this situation.

This is an unknown war.

"The war, well, do you think there's a long war going on right now?"

The principal thought for a moment and then changed the topic, "You should know one thing: the human sea tactic is not effective against strange creatures, and sometimes it can even have the opposite effect."

"right."

Xu Cheng nodded.

The original energy will affect the human spirit, and of course the strange creatures that accompany it will also.

Although humans with higher original adaptability can resist this effect to a certain extent, there is still the possibility of going crazy.

If one person goes crazy, it is very likely that the entire team will be wiped out in a strange way!

What's more serious is that the coexistence of an extremely large number of original energy blocks will cause some unknown activation of strange creatures, which will lead to even more troublesome existences.

Therefore, witnesses who confront strange creatures often act alone and have extremely strong individual combat capabilities.

Only in rare cases do witnesses act collectively, such as the recent Xinwuming incident.

Because at that time we had to deal with "human beings", so of course the more people, the better.

Back to now.

When the principal saw Xu Cheng nodding, he smiled and continued to ask the next question.

But this question is a bit scary to think about.

"Have you ever wondered how humans realize this?"

What do you realize?

Realize that you cannot use human sea tactics to fight strange creatures, even if those people are all adaptable people.

Xu Cheng suddenly thought of a terrible answer.

This answer lingered in his mind and could not be dispelled.

His expression did not change, but the light flashing deep in his eyes was noticed by the principal.

"The war between humans and strange creatures has lasted for too long since ancient times."

"Long enough for mankind to make up its mind and launch a real counterattack against the strange creatures."

"So many years ago, Azure officials secretly recruited a large number of warriors around the world. These people either have extremely high original adaptability or are cutting-edge talents in various fields."

"Under the unified deployment of Weilan, these people worked together and developed extremely strong combat capabilities."

"The name of this army is - Legion."

The principal's skinny fingers gently touched the photo.

"I used to be one of them. I worked in the scientific research department. As a recruit, I was mainly responsible for the research of strange creatures."

"I watched the soldiers of those legions enlist, train, fight, and sacrifice..."

"Every battle we fought was difficult, and there were always people injured or killed, but everyone in the legion at that time held the same naive belief——"

"In the face of weirdness, we are not helpless, we can win."

Hearing this, Xu Cheng paused, and then slowly expressed his guess:

"The Legion lost."

"Yes, I lost."

The principal gently placed the photo in his hand on the table, and then rummaged through the files on the side.

Soon, she took out an old notebook.

"The legion was defeated and fell apart."

"Um?"

Xu Cheng's eyes moved slightly, obviously confused.

This result is a bit too simple.

The Legion, the Blue Alliance Army, should have gathered a large number of elites with extremely firm beliefs.

How could a team composed of such a group of people collapse completely because of a single defeat?

The principal noticed Xu Cheng's doubts.

She sighed softly and opened a page in her notebook.

"How many years? Sixty years, right?"

"To be honest, I actually remember everything that happened back then."

"As someone who is engaged in scientific research, I am quite confident in my memory."

"But no matter how many times I force myself to remember, my brain still can't believe what happened that day."

"I still can't believe that fact, so every time I recall it I feel like I remembered it wrong, so I can only refer to my notes every time."

"But I wish I really remembered it wrong..."

The principal pointed his finger on the notebook, and then read slowly bit by bit;

"On March 5, 1962, the Legion's Scientific Research Department discovered the relatively controllable 'Strange Arrival' technology, which provided technical support for mankind's counterattack."

"On April 13, 1962, mankind's plan to counterattack strange creatures was determined. The plan is roughly as follows:"

"Use the original energy block to summon strange creatures to come, and at the same time lock the coming channel, complete the initial defense line, and try to further explore the world of strange creatures."

"At 18:22:44:00 on May 26, 1962, at dusk, the battle began on the inland plains of Liga."

"18:22:45:000, something strange is coming."

"At 18:22:45:001, one person was killed in the second theater. He was the first casualty in this battle. The cause of death was a foreign object pierced between the eyebrows."

"18:22:46:417, 13,564 people were killed in the fourth theater. The cause of death was cardiac paralysis."

"At 18:22:47:035, a total of 35,620 people in the fifth theater were killed, and the cause of death was suffocation or blood boiling; 635 people were killed in the first theater, and the cause of death was halving."

"18:22:47:890, 1,025 people were killed in the third theater, and the cause of death was organ degeneration; 8,970 people were missing in the first theater, and they were judged to have been killed."

"18:22:48:000, the descent channel is forcibly closed, and the battle is over."

"Total duration, 3 seconds."

"18:24:06:632, Legion confirms defeat."

After the principal read this, her fingers were still trembling, and her brain was instinctively resisting these words.

"This battle begins at dusk."

"The legion originally wanted to use the long night that night to obtain more intelligence, but the battle also ended at dusk."

"Those three seconds were so fast that many people didn't know what happened until the legion command used communication equipment to count the specific death toll——"

"59815."

The principal closed the notebook and his tone was terrifyingly calm.

"You just said that there is a war going on between humans and strange creatures. This is actually not entirely true."

"The war has already been fought."

"we lose."

"At dusk, we paid the price for human arrogance with the blood of 59,815 people."

“Thus, this battle was named ‘Blood Curtain’.”

——Battle of Blood Curtain.
