Chapter 630: Soul-broken Homeland (Part 2)

In this galaxy, some things are just so inconsistent with common sense and do not conform to people's established thinking.

Although the human side sent their most powerful ground forces, although their armored vehicles were equipped with radars and sensors, and although the warships and defense stations in orbit had monitoring systems accurate to the meter, the Greenskins still succeeded in raiding them.

Hartman remembered clearly that the Ministry of Military Affairs had always claimed that the Greenskins' technological level was several levels lower than that of the Empire.

But now it seems that although those beasts prefer blades, they also have guns and armor.

At the same time, looking at it from another dimension, this war showed from the very beginning that the Greenskins had something else, something that the Empire didn’t have at all—

"Hidden! Hidden!"

Hartman, who was trying hard to keep everyone alive, kept pushing the dazed recruits into trenches or bomb craters, but he himself was knocked to the ground by a shock wave in the next second.

In a daze, his mouth was full of blood and there was sand in his nose, but he still held himself up.

Then, he saw a soldier lying curled up next to him, his burnt body smoking, and a disgusting smell of meat wafted from that place.

Hartmann was almost crazy with fright. He had never seen such a scene before!

In a series of bright explosions, he saw bodies scattered around him, the sand beneath them melting.

Happy rushed out of a flash of light, shouting something to Hartman. Hartman could see the other person's mouth moving, but couldn't hear anything.

Seeing that the sound could not be conveyed, Happy rushed forward and pulled Hartman up.

Finally, his hearing gradually recovered, but all sounds were intermittent.

"...go...over there...let's...greenskins...fuck!"

"What? What did you say?"

"...many...greenskins...that...fuck...run!"

Suddenly, just when everyone was stunned by the explosion, the hail of flames stopped.

Hartmann blinked and looked at the mess around him. In the sudden silence, he heard many sounds: the crackle of the flames, the roars of the officers and the screams of the wounded, but all these were lost in his half-deafness.

Everything is discontinuous in my ears.

"Fuck!"

Happy suddenly shouted, his voice was frighteningly clear, and Hartman turned his head and looked at the terrible scene——

The greenskin rushed over.

Boundless green-skinned infantry emerged from the gradually falling night, pouring out from the shadows and sweeping toward the land of fire.

They have protruding tusks, gnarled muscles, and various crude armors that reflect the firelight. They are also wielding axes and large blades in their hands, and some guys are holding weird-looking guns in their hands.

Behind some particularly huge individual, a flag floating in the air like a kite is supported on a metal pole. There is a weird alien god pattern painted on it, which vaguely looks like a smiling face. There are also many fresh and dyed flags hanging around it.

Bloody human skull.

Anything in their hands will become a primitive, brutal, but shockingly effective weapon.

Even their voices.

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

With chilling howls, the greenskins rushed across the bridge and even waded across the river.

The first soldiers who encountered the enemy were harvested like corn by the wielding swords and axes. Their arms and heads flew into the air, their arterial blood spurted out, and their broken bodies fell to the ground.

"Brothers! Hold on! Hold on -"

"Ahhhh! My legs! Give me a lift brother!"

"Let's run!"

"To the parking lot! Go quickly!"

"Grenade! Quick!"

Faced with such a fierce offensive, the human side was in chaos. Some were fighting, some were fleeing, and some were in a daze.

Hartman heard several guns fired, but it was hardly resistance.

Until then, their leader finally came forward. The man held a pistol and raised his command sword high.

"Wake up! Wake up!"

The commander of the 114th Infantry Regiment shouted with irrefutable courage:

"Put them down! Pick up your guns! Don't let them charge! For the sake of the Empire! For the God-Emperor!!"

But the greenskins have already rushed over.

Wherever they went, the ground was covered with the corpses and remains of human soldiers, and there was a fine mist of blood floating in the warm air, which you could taste by sticking out your tongue.

Hartmann's hearing completely recovered, and his ears were filled with the hissing of the massacre, the sound of weapons slashing, and the screams of soldiers.

He began to stumble backwards, firing his gun as he ran.

Suddenly, a green-skinned creature rushed towards him, its huge mouth full of yellowed sharp teeth.

Hartman shot the opponent in the face. With great luck, he hit the eye directly. The monster covered his face and ran away.

Before Hartman could take a breath, a sharp ax swung at him, and Hartman ducked sideways.

He rolled and crawled to a safe distance, then knelt down on one knee, leveled his rifle, and aimed at the two charging enemies, but all the bullets he fired were empty.

After the leader appeared, the humans organized a slight resistance. Laser bullets streaked brightly in the air, and the greenskins began to fall down one by one, their whole bodies on fire or their bodies exploded.

"Headquarters! Headquarters! This is the 114th Infantry Regiment!"

Even at the front line, the correspondents could be heard shouting at the top of their lungs.

"Logistics Warehouse No. 39! We need assistance! A large number of enemy troops have appeared!"

But there was never a response from the other end of the communication, only disturbing white noise.

"Asking for support! We are being massacred! We are being massacred!"

As soon as Hartmann slipped into the next trench, a soldier next to him suddenly fell down. He looked closely and saw that it was Happy - the poor guy was split in half from the waist, and blood suddenly spurted out in all directions.

"ah----"

Hartmann was scared to death, screaming and turning around, but he saw a green beast turning a blood-stained rusty blade to prepare for the next attack.

He immediately instinctively raised the gun in his hand and tried to parry the enemy's weapon.

The next second, the blade's edge passed through the root of his thumb, cutting off all his fingers and the upper half of his palm, and knocked his gun away.

The knife was so swift that Hartman didn't feel any pain at first. He staggered back and watched a small stream of blood pour out of his destroyed hand.

Then, he felt the excruciating pain.

"Hmph, ahhhhhh!!!"

Then the machete swung back again, leaving a shining trail in the air.

But it didn't fall.

Another rifle blocked it, the blades met, and the slashed knife was bounced away. A dark figure flashed out, blasting the beast's head with a precise shot, and then the bayonet hit the throat again.

Hartman raised his head and found that it was the bearded veteran. His face was covered with sweat and his hands holding the gun were shaking slightly.

Then, the veteran looked down at Hartman.

"Be brave, we have to leave now!"

Then the veteran threw over a roll of bandages.

"Bandage your hands first."

But even a few warriors occasionally could not prevent the total collapse of the battlefield. More importantly, in the fire and smoke, Hartman saw some galloping figures.
