Chapter Fourteen: Ekaterina Alexeyevna

Peter felt his aunt's mood swings. He looked slightly and saw that his aunt's eyes were moist, and he couldn't help but sigh.

My aunt is a devout believer in the Orthodox Church. She probably put herself in Sofia's shoes at this time and thought about how painful it would be to change her Orthodox beliefs, which is why it was so difficult to suppress her emotions.

But Peter knew that it was not that painful for Sophia to change her faith. She was only 15 years old, how much faith could she have in religion?

Peter grabbed his aunt's hand and conveyed his feelings, but did not say any words of comfort.

Auntie's current sadness does not affect her ability to slap maids or courtiers when she is unhappy.

Just like my aunt often confesses her sins, but her heart-breaking prayers do not prevent her from holding a carnival party.

The queen is complicated, and it is ridiculous to comfort a queen.

In the crowd, Johanna looked at her daughter with complicated emotions.

Her daughter's manners were so noble and dignified from beginning to end. If Sophia were not her daughter, she would admire Sophia.

In this way, after a long initiation ceremony, Sophia bid farewell to her name.

Sofia August Frederica became Ekaterina Alexeyevna.

Peter asked his aunt that Sophia could have been baptized with her original name of "Sophia", but her aunt didn't like it.

Although this name is very common in Russia and does not sound German at all, my aunt's aunt is named Sophia.

This aunt was her aunt's father, the half-sister of Peter I. She served as regent when Peter I was young and competed with Peter I for the throne.

As the daughter of Peter I, Elizabeth disliked the name and chose her mother's name, Catherine.

But if that's the case, there's also a problem with Sophia's middle name.

Russian names usually consist of three parts, first the Christian name, second the patronymic, and finally the family name.

For men, the patronymic part consists of the father's name plus "son", and the Russian pronunciation is "Vitch". For example, the intelligence chief Ivanovich is Ivan's son.

The patronymic part of a woman is her father's name plus "daughter", which is pronounced "Ivna" or "Vna" in Russian.

The aunt's name was Elizabeth Petrovna, and the name of Ivan V's daughter was Anna Ivanovna.

Elizabeth and Anna in the front are both Christian names, "Peter" and "Ivan" in the back are patronymic names, "Ro" and "No" in the back are family names, both coming from the Romanov family, and the following ones are

"Funa" means "daughter".

But if the father's name is a Western-style name, the pronunciation will sound strange to Russians.

For example, the mother of Ivan VI, the Duchess of Mecklenburg, was overthrown by her aunt.

Her name was Anna Leopoldovna, a name associated with unwelcome German backgrounds.

If Sofia changed her name according to the normal method, she would be called "Sofia Kristnovna". Sofia is the family name, Kristy is the name of Sofia's father, and No is from the Romanov family.

But the aunt changed Sophia to Ekaterina, and the patronymic name Christie did not sound Russian, so the aunt also changed it.

The aunt chose the name of her grandfather, Peter the Great’s father, Tsar Alexei, as Catherine’s patronymic.

Therefore, after conversion, Sophia became——

Ekaterina Alexeyevna.

Therefore, after conversion, Sophia’s clan name was gone, her patronymic was also gone, and she had nothing to do with her father-in-law.

Prince Christian: "Where is my son?"

Fortunately, the aunt only asked the prince to attend the engagement, which took place after the conversion and coronation.

After the conversion, considering that the coronation of the two people would be held the next day, which would require physical strength, Peter took Catherine back first after asking the queen for instructions.

The aunt also allowed Ekaterina to miss the next banquet, but he would attend.

Peter nodded.

That night, Peter met Ekaterina's father who had arrived after a long journey.

Although Sofia had changed her name, she was still the same Sofia. When she saw her father and younger siblings coming from afar, she couldn't help but cover her mouth. She was about to hug her father and cry when Prince Christian stopped her.

It can be seen that this prince with a weathered face has a strong love for his daughter, but he knows that this is the Russian royal palace.

Christian is very pleased to see what his daughter looks like now.

Then they met Johanna again. Naturally, the couple had something to say when they met. The two brothers and sisters threw themselves into Johanna's arms, and then looked at Ekaterina in surprise and awe.

Their father had warned them when they arrived that Sofia was no longer called Sofia, but was called Ekaterina. Now she was not only their sister, but also the crown prince of the Russian Empire, so they were allowed to

Be careful in what you say and do, and maintain proper etiquette.

Obviously, even though they felt strange, they did not forget their father's words, and they immediately saluted Peter and Catherine in a decent manner.

Peter smiled slightly and chatted a few words with the prince, leaving room for the family to talk.

Not long after, the prince came. He saluted Peter, and then said with emotion:

"Your Highness, thank you for taking such good care of my daughter. So...Ekaterina is much happier than she was in Stettin. Are you satisfied with the Crown Princess?"

Christian knew that his daughter's fate was in the hands of Queen Elizabeth and the Crown Prince, and that her daughter's happiness was only her daughter's feeling. He was more concerned about His Highness's feelings and opinions about her daughter, which would affect whether Ekaterina could live a successful life.

Stable.

Peter smiled and said:

"Your daughter has a good upbringing. She acts cautiously and knows how to be measured. She is not extravagant and wasteful but is aggressive. At the same time, she pays full attention to me. I think there is nothing better than a crown princess like this in the whole world."

Hearing what Peter said, Christian was immediately overjoyed!

When I saw His Highness and my daughter together just now, I sensed harmony. Now that I heard that these words were not superficial, I couldn't help but burst into tears.

"Your Highness..."

Seeing the choked sobs of the already slightly elderly prince, Peter couldn't help but sigh that his parents loved their son, so...

wrong.

It is a father who loves his son, not a mother who loves her son. Johanna probably did not love Ekaterina that much.

Peter stopped the old father from saying anything grateful, asked him to adjust his mood, and then said:

"Your Majesty the Prince, it is not too late now. You are here for the first time and you should take your children to see Her Majesty the Queen. I am happy to guide you."

Christian nodded gratefully and went back to collect his two children and wanted to go with Johanna, but Johanna was a little embarrassed. She found an excuse to excuse her and let them go alone.

Christian immediately noticed something strange, and was shocked when he thought about his wife's character. Could it be that Johanna dared to cheat on her daughter when she was choosing the crown prince?
