Chapter 50: The Crazy Ratman

Late night, for many people in Calimport, is not the time to sleep.

Quite the opposite!

This is the most active and intense moment of their day.

Especially in the huge and complex sewers beneath the city's ground, hundreds of ratmen are gathering together to besiege a group of Kuo-Tao fishmen who are also hiding in the sewers.

This is an intelligent amphibian creature with a fish-like head, its body covered with colorful fish scales, atrophied limbs and webbed hands and toes.

They often lurk in the sewers of some port cities, or attack and occupy small coastal fishing villages, turning them into their own sphere of influence.

But today, these guys, who are regarded as huge threats and scourges by coastal residents, are experiencing a disaster.

Although compared to the Skaven who only use numbers to drown their enemies, the Kuo-Toa have more sophisticated weapons.

There is even a priest who is constantly releasing magical spells.

But in the end, they were defeated steadily under the impact of wave after wave.

Some fish-men corpses were even bitten and bruised by the crazy rat-men, exposing the scales and muscles and bones under the skin.

When the last kuo-toa priest was hacked to death, the rat people who won the final victory immediately raised their hands and let out a blood-curdling cheer.

The dark red blood stains on the gray fur and the remaining flesh and blood in the mouth and teeth all proved their madness tonight.

There is no doubt that among the many lycanthropes, the rat-men are the least good at fighting.

But at this moment, they have become extremely cruel and bloodthirsty.

As for the reason, of course it is the figure standing on the hill made of numerous Kuo-Toa corpses.

This guy is blind in one eye, has only half of his tail left, and has a small gap on his left ear, but his eyes are more fierce than others of his kind. He is obviously the leader of the entire rat-men group.

I saw him cutting off the head of the Kuo-Tao priest with a machete, holding the bloody fish head high, and said loudly: "My dear brothers and sisters!

Today we made history!

A history that Calimport has never had before!

That is, under the guidance of the great God of Hunting, he conquered every corner of the entire sewer!

Whether it's the werewolves who looked down on us, the trolls who saw us as a source of food, or these stinky fishmen covered in scales, they all fell at our feet.

Glory to Marla!

I declare!

Start now!

The Skaven will build our own kingdom in the sewers of Calimport!

No one can tell us what to do anymore!

And I promise this is just the beginning!

Next, I will lead you back to the ground and use practical actions to make the leaders of the Thieves Guild learn to respect us!

Otherwise!

We will chop off their heads as sacrifices to the Lord of Beasts."

"Oh oh oh oh!"

"That's great!"

"Thank you to the great God of Hunting, Mara, for your blessing!"

"From now on, the sewers belong to the kingdom of rat people!"

"That's right! If anyone dares to break in without permission, we will kill him!"

"The Thieves' Guild of Calimport must learn to respect us!"

"Lanny! You are our king!"

……

All of a sudden, the rat men around him roared crazily as if they had been given blood.

Especially those guys standing in the front row, their eyes are full of admiration for the leader of the rat people called Lanny.

It is precisely because of this almost fanatical atmosphere that no one noticed that there was a pair of eyes in the shadow not far away that saw everything that just happened.

He is none other than Epke's master assassin, Bernice.

"These ratmen actually fell into the arms of Mara, the god of hunting?

No wonder they suddenly became so crazy and bloodthirsty.

But who is this Lanny?

Why don’t I have any impression of him?”

Bernice murmured to himself in a voice that only he could hear.

However, I saw that this group of ratmen began to pile up the corpses of the killed Kuo-Toa, as if they were preparing for some kind of bloody sacrifice ceremony.

He did not dare to stay and observe any longer, but turned around and retreated towards the entrance of the sewer.

After all, no one knows whether something terrible will be summoned in this chaotic and evil god sacrificial ceremony.

If you happen to summon a creature that can see through invisibility, no matter how superb your stealth skills are, you will be exposed in an instant.

One of the most important reasons why Bernice can live safely in Calimport until now is that he does not have too much curiosity like other thieves.

……

An hour later.

The circular room on the second underground floor of the Thieves Guild.

Apke sat in his own seat wearing a silk pajamas, listening to Bernice's report very quietly, and kept touching his plump and elastic chin with his fingers.

After a long silence, he frowned and asked his magic advisor: "Aren't the followers of Mara, the god of hunting, generally active in inaccessible forests and wilderness?

And I heard that this group of guys who call themselves "Black Blood People" extremely despise the rat people living in the city's sewers.

Why does a ratman who believes in Mara appear in the sewers of Calimport?

This is so weird!"

"Mara is the common belief of all evil camp lycanthropes.

Theoretically, it is entirely possible for the Rat Man to become a believer in this god of hunting.

But what makes me incredible is that this rat leader named Lanni is so ambitious that he wants to build an underground kingdom in the sewers.

This is behavior that cannot be tolerated by any thieves guild in Calimport."

The middle-aged mage Courang pointed out the problem from a professional perspective.

As we all know, Calimport’s sewers are a complex underground network extending in all directions.

Many thieves guilds will use it to carry out smuggling activities, or to establish a black market base to buy and sell stolen goods.

This means that the sewers are public and no one can monopolize them.

Otherwise, you are making it clear that you will be enemies with all other guilds except yourself.

"Hmph! It seems that in order to trick these rat people into working for themselves, a certain guy deliberately made a promise that he couldn't keep.

But it doesn’t matter!

Since others can take advantage of them, I can too.

Bernice, send a letter to this rat leader named Lanny.

Just tell him that at midnight tomorrow, I will make an appointment with him at the entrance of the sewer on South Street in the city."

Apke is worthy of being the leader of the Thieves Guild, and he immediately saw through the essence behind the whole matter.

Since the rat man has been turned into a knife under the control of someone with a heart, why can't he become the master of this knife.

Anyway, no one has any intention of fulfilling their promise, so they can offer a sky-high price to lure the rat people into counterattack.

"Understood! I will deliver the letter."

The assassin escaped into the shadows again and left quietly.

After he walked away, Apke continued to ask: "Culang, how many rats have we caught so far that Mr. Soth asked us to prepare?"

"There are probably more than two thousand of them. You know, this thing is extremely difficult to catch.

And when the number reaches a certain level, they will kill each other and eat the corpses of the same kind.

Our people had to separate them one by one in cages with wires, and feed them some food and water every once in a while."

As soon as these mice were mentioned, the middle-aged mage couldn't help but complain.

Now when he thinks of those densely packed rats in cages, he can't help but get goosebumps all over his body.

"Hahahaha! I am looking forward more and more to what tricks Mr. Soth will use these mice to play. You know, I have always been very interested in magic, but I lack the talent in this area..."
