Chapter 48: Journey Against Desperation

Underground world.

Strange-looking underground monsters were wandering in the Great Rift Valley. A burst of smoke and dust appeared, and the group of monsters fled in all directions as if they were frightened.

The broad river passes through the Great Rift Valley, like a silver band inlaid on red velvet, extending to the north, meandering beside a patch of sand dunes of different shapes.

Beside the dark river.

A horse lowered its head and licked the cold river water.

This horse is tall and well-proportioned, with a shiny white mane.

Not far from it, a man was getting water from a kettle.

Over his leather armor, he wore a dust-proof robe and a tattered indigo cape, with a rough claw-shaped emblem painted on the cape.

After the man filled the water, he put the kettle into the leather bag carried by the horse. Then he stepped on the stirrups and got on the horse.

After one man and one horse drank enough water, the man clamped his feet together, and the horses began to run as fast as they could.

They continued to conduct forward reconnaissance along the underground river.

His horse is the strongest horse in the company, and was once the armored war horse of the Talengard garrison.

But Dewey was not a professional knight, nor had he received professional training.

He was once just a wrangler serving the nobles.

After Wrangler escaped from the Talengard slave camp, he joined the resistance. It was then that he learned that the Gryphon Claws were a fast-moving guerrilla force whose combat personnel mainly consisted of gryphon trainers and rangers.

Time changes everything, it's now Dewey's second year as Ranger Captain, and it's also the eighth month since Griffin's Claw went underground.

As the leader of the rangers with the most sophisticated skills and experience, Dewey went out personally to investigate in order to find out the latest trends of the demon army.

Rumble…

The earth is trembling.

A cloud of smoke and dust rose from the hill ahead.

Faced with the unusual situation, Dewey immediately reined in his horse.

At first he thought it was a sandstorm, but how could there be a sandstorm in the underground world?

In a blink of an eye, a group of cavalry rushed out of the sand and dust.

Then he saw clearly that there was no knight on the horse's back.

Those are the Nightmare Beasts and Cerberus from Hell!

It's the demon army!

Dewey gritted his teeth secretly, because of the complicated terrain, he didn't realize that he had come so close.

He turned his horse's head and immediately ran south along the river.

While fleeing, he looked back to observe.

These monsters ran wildly, seemingly not paying too much attention to him, but marching forcefully in a designated direction.

As more and more demons rushed out of the sand, Dewey's eyes gradually widened.

This is the main force of the Demon Legion!

Behind the fastest nightmare beasts and hellhounds are the horned demons and little monsters. They hiss and leap into the air. These creatures with excellent jumping and low-altitude flying abilities are fast and are the second echelon of the demon army.

.

At the end of the legion are high-level troops composed of succubi, evil gods, demons, and fierce demons.

They were surrounded by a hell carriage pulled by thirteen nightmare beasts. On the rough bone throne, the great demon Gok looked cold, and the succubus Abby was serving beside him.

"Is the information about the lurker reliable?"

Abby said coquettishly: "According to the latest news from the lurker, the meeting he convened went on as scheduled. As long as we let the highly mobile troops rush straight into the depths of the rift valley, we can wipe out all the Griffin Claws at the meeting location!"

Gaoke opened his bloody mouth and showed a satisfied look: "Very good, continue to advance at full speed. We are not afraid of spreading our troops, but we are afraid that the gryphons that hit the mouth will fly away. Even if there are some scattered troops, they will not be able to escape.

Teleport out of my space!"

Abby stretched out her arms and pointed to the front of the legion: "Look at the escaped scout. He just rushed back to the camp to report the news. It's too late."

...

Dewey drove the horse wildly, the horse's efficiency was squeezed to the limit, and heavy breathing came out of the nose.

Come on, now is not the time to relax!

Seeing the nightmare beast getting closer and closer behind him, Dewey's heart sank to the bottom.

He changed the direction of his horse several times, but was still unable to get rid of his pursuers.

At this moment, Dewey was like a small boat being chased and captured by a monstrous tsunami, extremely insignificant.

He could no longer control the course of his destiny. If he deviated even slightly, he would be swallowed up by the demonic tide behind him. He could only move faster, and faster, in the same direction as the tide, and watched the distance get closer and closer.

Dewey looked up and his eyes suddenly lit up.

Ahead is the vast rift valley area.

It was like a god slashing at the earth with a sword. After a powerful blow, a huge wound penetrated the entire area.

On both sides of the main rift channel, there are cracks formed by the shock when the sword blade cuts through the earth. These grooves crisscross the broken rock mass, like a living maze.

The fragmented rock mass has formed countless steep peaks, such as Gun Pond and Sword Forest. If you walk into a side road rashly, you may go around in a circle and come back, or you may directly encounter a dead end.

Dewey cheered up and galloped towards the Great Rift Valley.

The only hope of survival is to get rid of the pursuers here!

Close.

Closer.

Dewey rushed into the valley without stopping.

Boom!

The tide of demons followed like a shadow, rushing in the rift valley.

Dewey looked forward and suddenly found a person standing in the rift valley. He was about to issue a warning, but found that it was a skeleton soldier.

Wandering undead are not uncommon underground.

He passed by the skeleton soldiers, and the sound of bones being crushed was heard immediately behind him.

...

In the dark cave, a man's voice rang out.

"They're coming in?"

The woman's voice replied: "Coming in."

"Are all echelons and battle groups ready?"

"All arrive at the predetermined location and stand by."

"very good."

"Lord, what should I do with the Griffin Claw warrior? Will it cause an accident?"

"No, I am worried that the cunning demon will suspect my false information and dare not come in before the rift. The knight who came here by accident has obviously helped us. In the eyes of the demon, he is the one with the most accurate information.

Proof of.”

"So that's it. Now that the front of the demon army has broken into the main channel of the rift valley, is it going to 'cut off the snake's head' as planned?"

"The time has come, the plan is launched!"

...

That's too late.

Dewey could almost feel the heat radiating from the nightmare beast coming from behind his butt.

Escape into the small ravines on both sides of the rift valley is the last option.

Because no one can master this living maze. If you encounter a dead end as soon as you rush in, it is no different from actively seeking death.

Dewey nervously scanned the ravines on both sides and decided to choose a path that looked like he could rush out before being caught up.

Suddenly, he saw something strange.

Deep in a narrow mountain pass, some kind of huge lizards hid in groups in the dim shadows, their cold-blooded and bloodthirsty eyes exuding sharpness.

In another ravine half sealed by falling rocks, a purple phantom flashed past.

Dewey felt a little dazed. He continued his escape journey, but every time he thought it was over, he would see something weird again.

A skeleton filling a hidden cave held a long sword, and his white bone claws scratched the entrance of the cave. On a side road, a sturdy tauren secretly greeted him...

The Ranger Captain, who had the keen eyesight and observation skills of a falcon, finally began to doubt whether his sanity was still normal.

"I must have been frightened by the demon army and was strongly stimulated to have hallucinations."

"Hallucinations, these are all hallucinations..."

Dewey, who was on horseback, looked absent-minded and murmured.

Where to escape next? These hallucinations are just like a shadow.

What completely defeated his psychological defense was the human regiment that rushed out from a crack in front and tried to block the main channel of the rift valley.

Their silvery half-body armors are engraved with the emblem of the gryphon, which means that they are the troops of the extinct Griffin Principality.

Fighting as high as a guard!

Bang bang bang bang bang!

They raised the giant shield high, and then stabbed the tail of the shield fiercely into the ground. The spears grew out of the gaps in the shield like a jungle of thorns, and the shield walls extended out. The human warriors used their flesh and blood to fight in the rift valley.

A dam was built in the passage to intercept the tsunami! Face the demonic tide caused by Dewey without fear!

All this is exactly what is impossible to happen!

Elrath is on top! The glorious throne of the Gryphon Empire has fallen by the wayside, and the Griffin Principality in later generations has been destroyed by the Starbreaker!

Dewey's pupils, which were dilated due to extreme stimulation, reflected this illusory light and shadow, and his body lost control of the horse. Like a devout saint, he opened his arms facing the army of dawn that pierced the night, and he knew nothing about it.

I felt that he was in tears.
