Chapter 44: Lingering

Suddenly, she raised her head and glanced at the window: "We can get out of this window. My clothes just got wet in the forest, and there happen to be so many firewood sticks here. We can bend these iron rods."

After hearing her words, Huan Ci's eyes suddenly lit up.

The two carefully piled the firewood together to increase the height. Huan Ci held Zong Zhengtang underneath and watched the window slowly become larger.

"That's it." After a while, Zong Zhengtang's excited voice sounded.

"You go out first." Huan Ci still supported her and slowly moved her up.

"Then what should you do?" Zong Zhengtang asked in shock.

Huan Ci could no longer hold on, so he pushed her up and said, "Tie your clothes to the window, and I will climb up along with it."

Suddenly, a flickering light appeared outside.

"Someone is coming, please leave quickly." Huan Ci looked at Zong Zhengtang eagerly.

"No, we have to go together." Zong Zhengtang climbed up with all his strength and looked back at Huan Ci with difficulty.

"Hurry, someone is coming. We have to have someone to move the reinforcements, so hurry up."

The footsteps were getting closer and closer, and it seemed that someone was about to come, so Huan Ci hurriedly ran over and blocked the door.

Zong Zhengtang saw her actions and knew that she was trying to escape, so he mustered up the courage to jump out of the window.

Seeing her disappear, Huan Ci finally breathed a sigh of relief.

The visitor unlocked the door from the outside, tried to push the door, and soon noticed something unusual.

"What are you doing?"

Huan Ci didn't dare to make a sound and pressed against the door frame hard.

However, just now she had exhausted all her strength, and soon she fell down, took a few steps back and fell to the ground.

"Who's blocking the door?" The man opened the door angrily and stared at Huan Ci displeased.

But soon, the situation inside the house shocked him.

"You? What have you done?" he shouted.

*

There seemed to be a faint hint of sunlight on the horizon, but it was still freezing and shivering outside.

On a cool hilltop, two men pushed a woman and urged her forward angrily.

Huan Ci crossed her arms and stumbled while walking. Half of her face was swollen, and the other half was covered in scars. She knew that the areas covered by clothes were covered in bruises without looking at her.

A man behind her pushed her again and looked at her with some sympathy.

They killed Lord Wanyanliang, but the other woman escaped, and Lord Wanyansheng had to vent his anger on her. If General Huyanli hadn't stopped him just now, this woman would have been beaten to death by now.

After a while, the three finally reached their destination.

The two men looked at this place with disgust and didn't want to stay any longer. They pushed Huan Ci inside and closed the door.

Huan Ci staggered as she was pushed, and when she turned around to look, the light in front of her eyes completely disappeared.

This was actually a dark room, with no light coming in, yet it was surprisingly cold.

Huan Ci hunched her neck and limped forward. But she couldn't see anything, so she had to stretch out her hand and fumble.

Suddenly, there was something lying across her feet and she tripped.

"Ah." Huan Ci exclaimed softly, then squatted on the ground and carefully touched the thing that was hindering her.

But the further up she went, the more she felt something was wrong. This thing was soft and a bit hot to the touch.

"Stop touching."

In the darkness, a man's deep voice reached his ears.

Huan Ci froze in place, but the next moment she exclaimed: "Fu Shen?"

"Is that you, Fu Shen?" she asked.

"it's me."

"It's really you."

Huan Ci cried with joy. But soon, she couldn't restrain herself and burst into tears.

"I was scared to death. I thought I was dead," she kept saying.

Unexpectedly, the man in front of her hugged her tightly, rubbed her head with one hand, and whispered in her ear: "It's okay, it's okay."

His voice seemed to have magic power, making Huan Ci's tears flow even more violently.

The woman's crying continued for a while, slowly turned into sobbing, and finally stopped.

Huan Ci cried and wet the clothes on Fu Shen's chest. She was shocked to find that their posture was too ambiguous, so she wiped her tears and sat up.

"Thank you very much." She opened and closed her mouth and said.

The man let go of his arm holding her and responded softly.

Huan Ci finally began to adapt to the dark secret room, and he could vaguely see the outline of Fu Shen.

The dark room fell into silence for a moment, except for the sound of two people breathing one after another.

"Why is the smell of blood so strong?" Huan Ci sniffed and turned to ask Fu Shen.

She had already smelled it just now. She always thought it was coming from her body, but the smell was too strong.

"You are hurt?".

"It doesn't matter." The man made a weak voice.

"It doesn't matter, your voice has changed." Huan Ci's voice trembled, "Where is the injury? I have medicine for the injury."

"Here." Fu Shen held her hand and pressed it on his chest.

"What kind of injury is it?" Huan Ci took out the collar hidden in his clothes and took out a package of gold sore medicine from the pendant.

She has always had this habit of carrying some emergency medicine with her, but she didn't expect that it would come in handy now.

"An ordinary stab wound should not be serious."

"How could the knife wound not be serious?" Huan Ci scolded.

She climbed up to Fu Shen's waist based on the vague outline and groped for his belt in the dark.

The man's breath was stagnant, and he looked deeply at the busy woman.

However, Huan Ci knew nothing about this. She couldn't find Fu Shen's belt, and she became even more panicked because of his breath on her neck.

Sensing the man's increasingly heavy breathing, she also became nervous, but felt that giving up at this time was too obvious, so she had no choice but to continue.

Suddenly, a hand wrapped around her waist, and then she was pulled staggering.

Huan Ci's exclamation was completely blocked.

Unlike any other time before, the man's movements were delicate and gentle, slowly taking her breath away.

She gradually lost her center of gravity, hugged the man with both arms, and responded to his tossing and turning in a jerky manner.

"Well--"

The wound on his face was involved, and Huan Ci gritted his teeth in pain, but he relaxed in an instant.

"I didn't mean it." She explained hurriedly.

The man's hand moved from the back of her head to her cheek, once touching her wound.

"Did they beat you?" Fu Shen's voice was extremely low.

"It's okay." Huan Ci was still breathing heavily and put the medicine in his hand into his hand, "You can take the medicine yourself."

"This is the best medicine for golden sores. Even the medicine used by Zong Zhengyuan may not be better than this." She showed off.

"Yes." Fu Shen squeezed her palm and took the medicine from her hand.

After a period of rustling sounds, Fu Shen finally stopped moving, but his voice was even lower than before: "Thank you for the medicine."

"I wonder if the princess has escaped?" Huan Ci sighed and took a step towards him.
