Chapter 771 Yanzhou Remaining Regiment

After the main force of the Eighth Route Army went to the anti-Japanese front line, since the Party Central Committee still remained in northern Shaanxi, it was necessary to leave a small number of troops to protect the Party Central Committee and consolidate and develop the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia base area.

Later, the Military Commission decided to combine the Eighth Route Army's 115th Division Artillery Battalion, Radiation Battalion, 120th Division, 359th Brigade, 718th Regiment, Special Agent Battalion, Engineer Battalion, Artillery Battalion, Auxiliary Heavy Battalion, 129th Division, 358th Brigade Headquarters and the 770th

Regiment, special agent battalion, engineer battalion, artillery battalion, and spoke heavy battalion, a total of more than 9,000 people stayed in the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region under unified command, and the Eighth Route Army Rear Area General Stay Office was established, with Xiao Wei as director.

Subsequently, the remaining troops were reorganized into a total of 8 regiments and one battalion, except for the 358th Brigade Headquarters and the 770th Regiment, as follows:

The auxiliary heavy battalion and artillery battalion of the 120th Division were reorganized into the 1st Guard Regiment.

The 129th Division's Special Agent Battalion and Artillery Battalion were reorganized into the 2nd and 3rd Guard Regiments respectively.

The 115th Division's heavy battalion and artillery battalion were reorganized into the 4th Guard Regiment.

The 120th Division Special Agent Battalion and Engineer Battalion were reorganized into the 5th and 6th Guard Regiments respectively.

The 129th Division Engineer Battalion was reorganized into the 7th Guard Regiment.

The 718th Regiment was reorganized into the 8th Guard Regiment.

The 129th Division Auxiliary Battalion was reorganized into the Lang (now Fu County) Gan (Quan) Independent Battalion.

In December 1937, the Central Military Commission renamed the Left-Behind Division the Left-Behind Corps, which placed the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region Security Headquarters and the Guanzhong, Qinghuan, Trilateral, and Shenfu Military Divisions under the jurisdiction of the Left-Behind Corps.

In July 1939, the Artillery Regiment of the Central Military Commission was assigned to the left-behind corps and later reorganized into the Special Service Regiment.

In August, the Guanzhong Garrison Command was established. In October, the 359th Brigade led the 717th and 718th Regiments (renamed Pingshan Independent Regiment) from the Shanxi-Chahar-Hebei Border Region back to the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region to take over the defense of the Suide Garrison Area.

Based on the Suide Garrison Command, the 1st Garrison Brigade was established, with the 3rd and 8th Garrison Regiments under its jurisdiction, garrisoned in the Guanzhong area.

In April, the 719th Regiment, Yanbei Detachment, and 4th Detachment of the 359th Brigade arrived in the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region from northwestern Shanxi.

By the end of 1941, the left-behind regiment had a total of 3 brigades, 20 regiments and several independent battalions, with a total strength of more than 31,000 people.

Nowadays, the strength of the entire left-behind regiment is roughly divided into five military divisions: Suide, Sanbian, Longdong, and Guanzhong.

In November 1937, after the Japanese army ended its large-scale deployment of troops in North China, it dispatched troops to Jinfenglingdu and other places on the Yellow River, in an attempt to cross the Yellow River westward to occupy the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region and attack the northwest.

Faced with the tense situation on the Yellow River defense line, the Eighth Route Army's left-behind corps divided the Yellow River defense into three sections according to the instructions from their superiors, and established two Yanchuan and Yanchang counties and five counties (Suide, Jiaxian, Mizhi and Qingjian).

Wu Fort), Shen (Mu) Mansion (Gu) River Defense Headquarters", and adjusted the river defense forces in a timely manner according to the development of the situation.

"Chief, the front is Ganquan, and a hundred miles to the north is Yanzhou!" the comrade in charge introduced.

Zhou Weihan and others entered the base area in Langxian County, and then were escorted by the Third Independent Security Battalion all the way to Ganquan.

"How about it? It's my first time here. The scenery in the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia base area and the Taihang base area are very different, right?" the brigade commander said with a smile.

"Brigadier, this is not my first time here. Don't forget, I am a graduate of the fourth phase of the Anti-Japanese University!"

"The Taihang base area is surrounded by mountains. In contrast, northern Shaanxi is a loess plateau with a vast area, sparsely populated areas, and barren land. It is not easy to feed the entire border area!" Zhou Weihan said with emotion.

"Hey, I forgot that you and Zhao Gang both graduated from the fourth term of the Anti-Japanese University!" the brigade commander slapped his forehead.

Not long after, everyone arrived at Ganquan, and the then police officer and cultural brigade commander of the Guanzhong Garrison District came out to greet them.

Brigadier General Wen joined the Red Army in 1930. During the Red Army's second attack on Changsha, he actively signed up to join the death squads. He bravely attacked and braved the enemy's bullets and bullets, fought hard, and became famous in the first battle.

He served as the deputy commander of the 10th Regiment of the 3rd Division of the 8th Army of the 3rd Red Army, the commander of the 11th Regiment, and the commander of the 1st Regiment of the Central Military Commission's Instruction Division. He led his troops to participate in the first to fifth anti-"encirclement and suppression" campaigns in the Central Soviet Area.

Battles and long marches.

After arriving in northern Shaanxi, he served as the commander of the 12th Regiment of the 4th Division of the 1st Red Army, led his troops to participate in the Eastern Expedition, and later served as the commander of the 81st Division of the 1st Red Army.

After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, he served as the commander and political commissar of the 718th Regiment of the 359th Brigade of the 120th Division of the Eighth Route Army, and the commander of the 8th Guard Regiment.

He later returned to Yan'an and served as deputy commander of the Suide Garrison District and commander of the 8th Guard Regiment, brigade commander of the 1st Garrison Brigade and chief officer of the Guanzhong Garrison District.

Although Zhou Weihan had studied at the Anti-Japanese University, how could he be more familiar with Yanzhou than the brigade commander?

On the way here, the brigade commander took the initiative to introduce the situation in the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia base area to Zhou Weihan, including the cultural brigade commander of the 1st Guard Brigade.

"You guys came so fast. It has only been a few days since you arrived at the base?" Brigadier Wen asked.

"Hehe, we are lucky people and we have God's help. Along the way, we hitched a ride with his wife, Hu Zhongnan!" the brigade commander said with a smile.

"Let me introduce you, this is Comrade Zhou Weihan, and this is Comrade Wen**!"

After hearing this, the cultural brigade commander was very excited and held Zhou Weihan's hand: "I have heard of Comrade Zhou Weihan's name for a long time, and I have wanted to meet him for a long time. It's a pity that I didn't get the chance until today!"

"Comrade Weihan, on behalf of the comrades in the Guanzhong Garrison District, I would like to thank you for your strong support. At the moment, our department only has the Third Guard Regiment, the Eighth Guard Regiment and a local security regiment. The strength is really not enough!"

"In the past year, the national army has continued to cause friction in the border area, and even attacked our garrison at one point. Guanzhong and Longdong are areas where friction incidents occur frequently. At the end of April, we just had a battle with the national army, and both sides had conflicts with each other.

loss!"

"That's why I asked my superiors if I could transfer a unit from the front line back to the base area. Who would have thought that a regiment from the Tainan Military Region would be transferred back!"

The Guanzhong Garrison Area is the southern gate of the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Base Area. From a geographical point of view, it is a sharp knife inserted into the heart of the enemy.

From Yanzhou to Guanzhong, you have to pass through Huangling, a narrow strip dozens of miles long around the store. The soldiers and civilians in the base area called it "Gourd Bar" and the Guanzhong area as "Treasure Gourd".

The Kuomintang die-hards have long coveted this "treasure gourd" in my base area, always wanting to eat it first and then annex the entire border area.

Therefore, during the entire Anti-Japanese War, the Kuomintang die-hards never stopped carrying out armed and unarmed sabotage activities in the Guanzhong area.

After hearing this, Zhou Weihan understood why Brigadier Wen was so enthusiastic: "Commander Wen is too polite, obey the orders of your superiors and defend Shaanxi, Gansu and Ningxia according to geography!"

The Fifth Regiment is now on its way to Yanzhou. According to the order of the left-behind regiment, the Fifth Regiment arrived at the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia base area and was incorporated into the Guanzhong Garrison. It was designated the Fifth Guard Regiment. After a brief training, it was temporarily stationed in the Langxian area.

The Langxian area is located at the northern end of the Guanzhong Garrison Area. Compared with Xunyi and Chunhua in the south, the fighting environment is more stable.
