Chapter Fourteen Theology, Authority, and Order

Theology, as the name suggests, is related to gods, or the rational doctrine related to gods.

For us living in a materialistic world, this theory seems unreal because no god has ever revealed His existence in front of us.

So for us, theology is not so much a doctrine related to God, but it is more like a doctrine that is the origin of our human beings' fear of the unknown and the need for faith on the way from ignorance to rationality.
But this is different for Calvin who is now on the other side. In the world where he is now, God is a real existence that has been proven.

In the past, he had a different respect for gods that he had dismissed when he was in the army. In the environment he is now in, respecting gods is no longer common sense.

Materialism teaches us that our disbelief in the existence of God does not fundamentally deny the rationality of His existence, but because we have indeed failed to see Him or traces of their existence.

The situation Calvin is facing now is that when a god or multiple gods have actually appeared, and when the human race has twice challenged its own peak, it has been hit head-on by these superior gods.<

/p>

Then there is no doubt about the debate about the existence of gods. Throughout the history of mankind:

In the first time, humans in the golden age were dominated by technology and refused any transformation of themselves. At their peak, the golden humans were said to have ruled the entire galaxy, and even time became a tool in their hands. But they still fell to the ground.

In the huge subspace storm on the eve of the racial upgrading.

During the second time, the Emperor led the Human Empire. Under the leadership of the Emperor, they no longer blindly believed in science, but chose to stay away from the Warp. In the vast majority of people, including the Primarch,

Without any understanding of the Warp, the Emperor led them on the one hand to launch a mighty expedition to the Milky Way to regain the lost ground; on the other hand, a man who could completely get rid of the Warp technology and be able to support it alone

The network technology for transportation and communication in the empire's territory has also made surprising progress under the emperor's highly confidential research and development.

Everything seems to be going well, but human beings still cannot escape the fate of failure.

Soon, another subspace storm appeared at the end of the Great Crusade and swept across the entire galaxy. The empire at its peak completely lost control and protection of the billions of people within its territory in a short period of time.

The Chaos Apostles headed by Erebus, under the careful arrangement of the warp gods, approached step by step the emperor's most beloved child. Among the 19 demigod-like primarchs, no matter who

The children who are closest to the emperor himself in both civil and martial arts.

It was also at the end of the Great Crusade, after the Emperor himself returned to Terra to preside over the Webway project, that the actual helmsman of the Empire's huge armed forces: the Supreme Warmaster who could nominally command and control all eighteen legions participating in the Great Crusade:

Horus Luperkar. It was only after the Warmaster, who had lost the protection of the Emperor and was surrounded by numerous conspiracies, and finally failed to escape the corruption of the Chaos Gods from the Warp, that he launched the war.

The entire empire fell from its peak, and a huge rebellion failed to restore national strength after thousands of years.

This battle ended in a tragic victory for the Human Empire. Horus was crushed by the Emperor's sword. However, the Emperor also lost the possibility of walking in the Empire. He was seriously injured and could only survive for a long time.

Sitting on that famous golden throne.

The power of the empire, which lost the rule of the supreme monarch, plummeted from its peak. Subsequently, the empire, which had not yet recovered, experienced the Beast Wars, the Age of Apostasy, the Dark Crusade, etc., either from the orc aliens or from the warp gods, which affected the entire empire.

After the continuous attacks, the empire completely lost all possibility of restoring its former strength.

Since then, the empire has entered an era without an emperor, a mortal empire ruled by a council of high lords maintained by a delicate balance between political forces - the post-emperor era.

In this way, mankind has twice proved two points at the cost of its own blood in 30,000 years: that is, towards the gods of subspace and chaos, whether it is the attitude of ignorance of mankind in the golden age, or the attitude of keeping a distance from the pre-Emperor era

, all failed.

For a race, failure is not terrible, but losing the chance to make a comeback is terrible. Before the Emperor's injuries worsened and he sat on the Golden Throne, he had already seen the outcome of failure and made his third and final attempt for mankind.

:Grey Knight.

The Gray Knights, like their cousins the Custodes, all shoulder a heavy mission: they are not only the strongest and most elite in the Empire's armed forces, but they are also a template for the future of mankind in a sense by the Emperor.<

/p>

Therefore, when the Imperial Guard, as the template for humanity's second attempt, was permanently withdrawn from the future options of the human race with the failure of the Emperor, the Gray Knights were humanity's last hope.

It can be seen from the Gray Knights that on the third and third rise path chosen by the Emperor for mankind, he hopes that mankind will no longer arrogantly ignore the power of subspace like the humans of the Golden Age.

;

We will no longer choose to stay away like the empire in the pre-emperor era. Since what is coming will come, escaping will not solve the problem.

So in the eyes of the Emperor, like the Gray Knights, they fight head-on against the subspace, deepen their understanding of the subspace in the constant battle against it, and finally master it and subdue it. Perhaps this is the Emperor's view of these and the

Like the Imperial Guard, the children who directly inherit the wealth of the Emperor himself at the genetic level have the greatest hope.

Perhaps only warriors like the Gray Knights, who can become more and more numerous in the empire as time goes by, and eventually become the dominant force in the empire's armed forces, can the human empire decide to face the power of subspace head-on after learning from the pain.

The core strength needed for the third rise.

And this burden now falls on the shoulders of our protagonist, Calvin.

For Calvin in this world, gods are real. Then the doctrines related to gods are no longer false. Even if the gods of this universe are not created by humans and do not serve humans; even if the gods of this universe are naturally full of malice toward humans.

.

But the knowledge related to God is still worthy of Calvin's serious study and understanding. It is not that Calvin has respect for these gods. Only by knowing it, understanding it, and mastering it can we destroy it. This is as a materialist,

In other words, the pragmatist Calvin's attitude towards them.

Calvin carefully observed the sphere in his hand that represented his soul, and the tiny golden flash that appeared on it recently.

"Concept is power. The more complete the concept, the more powerful the power."

This was the first knowledge that came to his mind when he saw this flash of light, and he naturally perceived it. And this also announced that after 30,000 years, there was finally someone in humankind who had obtained the initial enlightenment on the extraordinary road to the gods.

It is groundbreaking and substantive knowledge.

In his mind at this time, regarding this initial seed that represented his power as the gods, he was facing three different options: justice, rights and order.

The three options that all seemed to represent positive abilities made Calvin quite entangled at this time: these three options may be directly related to what kind of power he initially obtained from the authority represented by this power.<

/p>

And such initial seeds of different power systems may bring him completely different situations in the future development.

Needless to say, authority was an option that was ruled out by Calvin at the first opportunity. From the moment he reached the deal with the emperor, he understood that his mission was not to be one person above ten thousand people.

So what is justice? What is order? Justice should mean kindness; but order seems to represent something cold and inhumane.

Correspondingly, he was immersed in thoughts about good and evil, and at the same time, he briefly understood some of the powers that the so-called gods might represent.

What is goodness?

What is evil?

In other words, is good eternal? Or is evil fixed?

In Calvin's mind, thoughts like this were going on at a high speed.

What is goodness? Is it morality? What is morality? Is it law?

No, the law is the bottom line for maintaining rules and order, and morality is the aspiration and spirit of the law.

What about goodness? Goodness should just be the original aspirational goal of morality, and there is no specific definition.

Why do you say this? Because in the development of human beings, or in the development of all intelligent races, with the development of productive forces, morality or the standards of goodness have never been fixed, let alone the laws that rely on them to exist.

.

In primitive society, was plundering and killing evil? No, for people of that era, surviving was the greatest good;

In a slave society, is life-long oppression of others an evil? No, in the laws of the time, this was also a good that must be protected;

In feudal society, is the oppression caused by the annexation of land and personal dependence an evil? You must know that in the society at that time, this was also a good thing.

Goodness is like this. It raises its own standards with the increase of productivity. Just like the evil represented by the gods, at certain moments, it was also good.

The establishment of every new standard of good means the renewal of a new standard of evil. Each concept of good is also in opposition to and unified with its predecessors, the good at that time and the evil now.

In this way, the simple definition of being good at justice will always be much less than the accumulated evil. There is often only one definition of justice in a certain direction at the same time, but there are countless evils that exist in opposition to it.

Even Calvin has seen that at this moment, if he easily takes over the authority of goodness and justice that he represents in front of him, he will eventually become a member of evil at some point in the long time to come.

So what is the eternal good? In other words, what is the essence of the power on the other side of chaos?

It's order! Only order is the basis for development, and only order is the possibility for kindness to be born.

After thinking about this, Calvin seemed to understand the goal he was pursuing, as well as some essential truth about the universe:

Those who fight against Chaos, those who can truly stand up to the authority of the Chaos Gods, are never puny humans like them, or their predecessors, the Eldar race who had already destroyed the first howl of Salish.

Rather, it is the order they represent as the race continues to develop along with the enlightenment of wisdom and reason.
