Chapter 68: Black Mage

After successfully evading the broken soldiers who were crowding into the square, Brutus climbed through a window into a house.

He subconsciously observed his surroundings. A woman with an ordinary face, wearing a fine linen dress, with long hair tied up, was holding a broom and staring at him fiercely, which surprised him a little.

"I think you'd better leave quickly, or find a place that is secluded enough to hide." Brutus twisted his arm to close the window he just pushed open, and continued facing the woman, "Of course you can't use the front door.

Already."

"Who are you?" The woman's voice was calm, not at all frightened by Brutus' sudden intrusion.

She took a look at Brutus's dress. He looked wealthier than ordinary civilians, and the sword in his hand was dripping with blood from time to time.

"A member of the militia, but it can be considered a defeat now." Brutus listened to the movement outside the house, and the sound of scattered footsteps and screams could not be heard. "Stop talking nonsense now and come with me."

He walked to the other side of the house and was about to push the window open a crack, but unfortunately he heard a scream before he could push it open.

Obviously now they are the turtle in the urn.

"My house still has a tunnel." The woman stood behind Brutus and said softly.

"Authentic?" Brutus felt that his luck might be too good. Although this thing sounds unbelievable, it is still much better than being trapped here.

He followed the woman to a bedroom and watched her pull down a lever. Then with the sound of a pulley rolling, the bed gradually moved away, revealing a tunnel entrance under the bed.

The entrance to the tunnel is under a thick wooden board. After pulling the wooden board open, there is a straight ladder that leads to the bottomless underground.

Of course Brutus let the woman go down first, and then closed the board himself - this was based on etiquette and safety considerations.

As for why there is a tunnel and agencies here, you can ask later.

"Can I know your name?" he asked as he climbed down the ladder.

"Alicia." Alicia's voice came from below, "I am the black magician you often call me."

Brutus' tone remained unchanged: "What a coincidence, we just happened to be dealing with black magicians and their summons."

"Special people always meet in simple ways, don't they?"

The two of them were silent for a while, until they descended from the ladder to the ground.

"Doesn't it need to be dealt with above?" He looked around, and everything he saw was in a very dim environment.

"The mechanism will automatically reset." Alicia struck a match in the dark, then lit a torch hanging on the wall, and then the entire tunnel's torches lit up by themselves.

"Is this magic too?"

Alicia walked in front and replied: "No, it's just a simple mechanism. But as the holder of a blessed weapon, you can chat peacefully with a black magician here. Don't you think there is any problem?

"

"Is this known to everyone?" Brutus was curious as to how everyone seemed to know their own spears and themselves. "But to be honest, I don't have any specific knowledge of you."

"Although the legends circulating describe you as heinous." He then added.

"I think the nobles above must have put all the blame on us again." Alicia pointed out this point indifferently, "But the best case scenario is that they are dog eating dog."

Brutus took a slight step forward, walked to Alicia and walked side by side: "It sounds interesting, can you tell me more about it?"

Alicia obviously didn't want to say anything more and continued walking forward on her own.

"Where does this tunnel lead to?" Brutus, of course, would not ask for trouble, so he asked another question.

"The bottom of the lake next to the town of Tateto."

“The quality is very good and it doesn’t leak water.”

"Because only the upper half of the lake actually has water, and the lower half has long been abandoned by the nobles of Tatto Town."

"So what are you doing here?"

"Study the dark magic they use, and seal the situation to prevent it from becoming more serious."

Brutus raised his eyebrows slightly. This is indeed interesting. The black magicians are still controlling the bad accidents caused by black magic instead of making it worse.

"Not everyone is a lunatic. We study black magic, but we also know clearly the harm they can cause." Alicia seemed to be able to read minds, "Magic is just like the weapons in your hands, good or bad.

Depends on who uses it.”

"That makes sense, but if you only listen to one side of the story, anyone can be a good person."

"So this is exactly what I am doing, let you see with your own eyes the good things done by the nobles." Alicia's tone seemed a little angry when she said "good things", and her tone involuntarily became a little higher.

"So what's their purpose?"

"Of course it's the ridiculous immortality. For this reason, they even stop being human beings and plunge into the world of the dead."

"Power is fascinating, let alone eternal power." Brutus shrugged, "It's a pity that in order to hold it firmly in your hands, you can even give up the glory and wealth of future generations."

"It's really unimaginable." He smiled, "Originally, the children of nobles can still be nobles, and their wealth can always be monopolized by them, but they give up all this for the so-called eternal life."

"Miss Alicia, do you think immortality really exists?"

"All gods will fall, let alone mortals? Nothing lasts forever, and this is what we firmly believe." Alicia turned to answer Brutus's question, "Breaking these corrupt systems is what we have been doing.

"

"Do you want to join?" she asked Brutus.

"It's different." Brutus shook his head, "I don't know what you did, but since it's all related to black magic, it obviously has nothing to do with me."

"But -" he continued, "at least we are still on the same side now."

"Tell me how you want to save the current situation."

"I think he will tell you about this after you meet with our president."

Alicia was not obliged to answer all of Brutus's questions. In her opinion, if Brutus hadn't been there, he might be of some use, so she didn't even bother to answer the questions.

"Then how long do we have until we arrive?" Brutus looked towards the distance of the tunnel. The weak firelight continued and there was no end in sight.

"Soon."

Not long after she finished speaking, the two passed through an invisible curtain and entered a hall at the bottom of the lake.

Brutus looked at the dozen or so people busy in front of several tool tables in the hall, and for a moment he didn't know whether to ask Alicia directly what difference a few people could make...
