Chapter 361: Kindness does not hold the army

Drinking horses crossing the autumn water, the water is cold and the wind is like a knife.

The sun has not gone down on Pingsha, and we can see Lintao dimly.

During the Great Wall War in the past, Xianyan was in high spirits.

The yellow dust is enough for today and the past, and the white bones are a mess of wormwood.

——"Song under the Fortress" by Wang Changling [Tang Dynasty]

Speaking of the map of mountains and rivers, Wang Zhongsi said: "Cao Cao said: 'If you want to fight, examine the terrain to win.'

Mountain geography is the key to marching and fighting, and familiarity with the terrain is the key to victory.

Whenever an army is about to move, it is first necessary to have the sergeants prepare for an ambush due to the situation of the mountains and rivers within fifty miles. The general will then look at the situation of the ground and map it out, knowing the dangers and dangers. Therefore, the army will cross the border, assess the terrain and win, so the army will march next time.

Before every battle, Emperor Taizong would do everything personally. He would first let scouts conduct reconnaissance to see if there was any enemy ambush. Then Emperor Taizong would personally check the terrain and even observe the enemy's camp.

Before the war, it was extremely dangerous to go deep into the enemy camp. Even so, Emperor Taizong would definitely do it himself and would never assign this task to other generals, even his most trusted advisers and generals."

Bai Fu was quite confused and said: "Isn't it enough to just look at the map? Why did the coach go to the dangerous situation himself?"

Wang Zhongsi said: "There is a proverb among military strategists: 'Don't go to the graves of heroes, for there are gods on the battlefield!'

How to use troops? All methods of using troops are on the spot.

Only by arriving at the scene in person and knowing the dangerous terrain can we better judge where is suitable for garrisoning troops, where ambushes may be hidden, and where is suitable for a decisive battle. Finally, make a comprehensive deduction, assess the situation, and decide on a strategy for this battle. Just like a cook trying to solve an ox, he has a confident mind and a god.

If you encounter it without looking at it, the official will know it and stop it, but the spirit will do it.

During the Three Kingdoms period, Deng Ai, the general of the Wei State who led the army to conquer the Shu Han Dynasty, came from a poor background. He once worked as a clerk in the field army to look after straw. Deng Ai was fond of military affairs. Whenever he came to mountains and rivers, he would survey the terrain and landforms and practice troops in his mind. He thought about where to go.

Camp, where is a suitable place to set up an ambush? Collect all kinds of terrains in the military book, and take in all the mountains and rivers in the world.

Because he was at the bottom, it was almost impossible to lead troops in war. His colleagues around him ridiculed him as "General Deng". Deng Ai didn't mind and enjoyed it.

Twenty years passed uneventfully like this. Once, Deng Ai went to Luoyang to report, and was appreciated by Luoyang Taiwei Sima Yi. He was recruited as a vassal of the Taiwei Mansion, and was later promoted to Shangshulang.

In August of the fourth year of Jingyuan, the Wei army divided into three groups to attack Shu: Western General Deng Ai led more than 30,000 troops and marched from Didao to contain Shu General Jiang Wei's main force stationed in Tazhong.

In October, Deng Ai took advantage of Jiang Wei being restrained by Zhong Hui in Jiange, and led his army from Yinping along the Jinggu Road east to south, leaving Jiange for more than 200 miles south. Deng Ai led his army to climb the trail, dig mountains to open roads, and build stacks.

They crossed the bridge and crossed more than 700 miles of uninhabited and dangerous territory. The mountains were high and the valleys were deep, making it extremely difficult and dangerous. On the way, the food transportation was not continued, and they were in trouble many times. When the troops reached Mage Mountain, the road was cut off, and they could not advance or retreat for a while.

Deng Ai took the lead, wrapping himself in felt and rolling down the hillside.

Deng Ai led his army to Jiangyou unexpectedly, and forced the surrender of the defender Ma Miao; he defeated Mianzhu and killed Shu general Zhuge Zhan; Mianzhu fell and the entire Shu army collapsed. Deng Ai took advantage of the victory to attack, captured Luoxian County in one go, and approached Chengdu. Liu Chan, the later leader of the Shu Han Dynasty, invited

Surrendered. Deng Ai led his army into Chengdu, and the Shu Han was destroyed.

In this battle, Deng Ai took advantage of the stalemate between the main forces of the two armies and led a partial division to send out surprise troops. They carried out a large and deep roundabout, bypassing the frontal defense of the Shu army, and went straight to Chengdu, the capital of Shu.

Because of his skill in the topography, Deng Ai was able to travel for more than 700 miles in the uninhabited mountains of Bashu, carving dangerous mountains, constructing bridges and pavilions, steep rock valleys, climbing cliffs and trees, wrapping himself in felt, and falling down.

Deng Ai anticipated the enemy's opportunity and had super insight. He fought with Jiang Wei several times without losing. The battle of sneaking into Yinping was the most outstanding battle in the history of war, and his masterpiece of surprise attack will always be recorded in the annals of history."

Wang Zhongsi narrated the history of the war vividly. Bai Fu was fascinated and his heart of reverence arose spontaneously.

Wang Zhongsi took the opportunity to use the six types of terrains of "Tong, Gua, Branch, Pass, Danger, and Far" and the six types of military tactics of "Juejian, Tianjing, Tianlao, Tianluo, Tianzhen, and Tianxiao" in dangerous areas;

"Earth, light ground, contested ground, junction ground, thoroughfare ground, heavy ground, ruined ground, encircled ground, dead ground" are the nine ways of fighting on terrain; "walk, gallop, sink, collapse, chaos, and north" are the six ways of sure defeat.

situation; thirty-two methods of observing the enemy's situation were taught to Bai Fu one by one.

Wang Zhongsi said: "Famous generals in ancient times paid great attention to the daily training of the three armies.

As the saying goes, kindness does not control the army. Strict training will make you sweat more in peacetime and bleed less in war.

General Wu Qi said: "The drums and golden bells are the reason for the power of the ears, and the flags and seals are the reason for the power of the eyes. The prohibitions and punishments are the reason for the power of the heart. The power of the ears is the sound, which cannot be clear; the power of the eyes is the appearance, which cannot be understood; the power of the heart is the punishment.

, you have to be strict. If you don't stand up for the three, you will definitely be defeated by the enemy. Therefore, it is said, when you are under your command, never fail to move; when you are pointed at, never fail to die before you.'

Wu Qi led the troops and trained the most. Through day and night drills, he strengthened the authority of the command and developed the habit of executing orders and prohibitions. The soldiers of the Wei State trained in this way were able to fight wherever they were pointed, without fear of life or death, and marched forward bravely. With the flag pointing and the drums beating, Wei Wu's soldiers

The soldiers' front points are invincible.

"Wei Liao Zi" said: "A thief attacks the city with a sword, and everyone shuns him. It is not the bravery of one person alone, and everyone is unworthy. There is no difference between death and life."

Li Jing said: 'In ancient times, a general would be able to kill three out of ten soldiers, and the next best thing would be to kill one out of ten. Killing three out of ten would be awe-inspiring to the enemy country. Killing one out of ten would give orders to the three armies.'

The first thing a famous general from ancient times did when he took over the Tiger Talisman was to establish military law and military prestige!

How to establish authority? Kill someone to sacrifice the flag!

If you kill one-tenth of the soldiers, the three armies will obey the order. If you dare to kill three-tenths of the soldiers, you will intimidate the enemy!

Who is the best person to kill the chicken to scare the monkey? It is best to be the king's favorite. The favorite thinks that the king is his backer, and the general does not dare to touch him.

Once a favored minister acts carelessly, neglects his duties, or violates military orders, behead him first and then report him! If you kill this person, the officers and soldiers of the three armies will sweat profusely and understand that in the eyes of the commander-in-chief, everyone can be killed.

Sima Ranju's killing of Zhuang Jia is a classic example of war.

When Jin and Yan attacked Qi, Tian Ranju led his army to attack, and Qi Jinggong sent his important minister Zhuang Jia to supervise the army.

Tian Ranju and Zhuang Jia agreed to set off at noon the next day, and the army was assembled on time the next day. However, Zhuang Jia and the ministers who saw him off had a banquet until sunset.

According to military law, he was late for the expedition and was beheaded. Tian Ruoju called the military judge and executed Zhuang Jia according to the order. Duke Jinggong of Qi sent an envoy to rescue him urgently. The envoy shouted, "Leave people under the sword." Tian Ruanju used the excuse of whips and horses galloping in the military camp.

The envoy was sentenced to death. The generals begged for mercy, and then thought that he was the king's envoy. He was exempted from the death penalty, and he beheaded the driver and the horse driving the chariot. The envoy was unconscious and escaped from the military camp in embarrassment.

This attack commanded the three armies and shocked the enemy. The Jin and Yan armies hurriedly withdrew without waiting for a fight. Tian Ruangju took advantage of the victory to pursue and regain all the lost territory of Qi.

When the army returned in triumph, Qi Jinggong made Tian Rangju the Grand Sima and led hundreds of officials to greet him in the suburbs. How could he remember his important minister Zhuang Jia?

Sima Ranju's routine has become the best way for famous generals in the past to establish their power. However, every time in history, there are idiots who do not read and know nothing, relying on their backing, giving the head to the general as a meeting gift to scare the monkeys.

.”

Bai Fu burst out laughing after hearing this.

"General Li Jing said: 'Those who fear me do not fear the enemy, and those who fear the enemy do not fear me.' If you want to lead an iron-blooded army, the general in charge must be more terrifying than the enemy. A soldier who charges into battle may not necessarily die; if he does not obey military orders, he will be killed immediately.

Dharma.”

Having said this, Wang Zhongsi emphasized again: "Fu'er, when you join the army in the future, remember to abide by military orders!

No matter how illustrious your military exploits are, or how deep your personal relationship with your commander is, or even if you save your commander's life in a hail of bullets, you should not be careless. Under military orders, there are no fathers, sons, brothers, nor masters or apprentices.

If you serve as a general under me and disobey military orders and delay the battle, you will definitely be killed without mercy!"

Having said this, Wang Zhongsi's tiger eyes flashed with a cold light, his momentum was overwhelming, the general was majestic, and there was no trace of the prisoners' embarrassment and desolation.

The general gave him a warning. After hearing this, Bai Fu clicked his tongue with a solemn look on his face and remembered it in his heart.
