The Crow Tribe and the Jackal Tribe were busy fighting each other, but neither could destroy the other.
As a result, the Vine Tribe has enjoyed a relatively stable period of development, allowing it to build the tribe with peace of mind and increase its strength.
Peaceful days always pass quickly, and in the blink of an eye, several months pass by.
The fifth day of September.
Vine tribe, altar.
"Moo..."
The five young bison were tied tightly and then placed on the altar, howling in panic.
Chi Shao stood in the middle of the altar and prayed to the Vine God with dry and incomprehensible spells to tame these little buffaloes.
"Buzz!"
On top of the stone mountain, the divine vines bloomed with green light, and vines hung down from the stone mountain, quickly wrapping the little bison.
After a while, the little bison stopped howling in panic.
When the vines retracted, the five little bison struggled a few times, and then looked at the people under the altar with their big innocent eyes.
On their foreheads, there are faint totem marks of the vine tribe.
Jiang Xuandao, who was under the altar, said: "Go and carry it down."
"yes!"
Shi Loach and other warriors walked up to the altar excitedly, and then carried the five young bisons to the open space in front of the altar.
Jiang Xuan said again: "Untie the rope."
Shi Loach and others untied the ropes as instructed, and the five young bison immediately stood up and looked around curiously, with no fear in their eyes.
Jiang Xuan sighed inwardly: The speed of domestication is too fast. If we rely on artificial domestication, we don't know how many years it will take to reach this level.
These little bison were captured by the second hunting team. This time without any accidents, they were successfully brought back to the tribe and tamed by the Fuji Shen.
Of course, the Vine tribe cannot always let the totem gods do this kind of work. After the first-generation bison are raised, they will give birth to cubs and become the second-generation bison.
How to tame the second-generation bison into domestic cattle that can work depends on the efforts of the Vine tribe members themselves.
In addition to the five young bison, there were also six adult big-horned deer, which were also brought to the altar and tamed into mounts by the Vine God.
There are already hundreds of big-antlered deer like this in the Vine tribe.
These big-horned deer will become the powerful mounts of the Vine Tribe, and they will hunt and charge into battle together with the Vine Tribe warriors.
After the domestication of the little bison and the big-horned deer was completed, Jiang Xuan and the others sent some sacrifices to thank the Vine God for his help.
"Okay, take these little bison to the breeding team, and you can take the big-horned deer back by yourself."
"yes!"
Stone Loach and the soldiers of the second hunting team took away the baby bison and the big-horned deer. They expected that these little bison and big-horned deer would bring new changes to the tribe.
Chi Shao and Jiang Xuan cleaned the altar together, because there were some residues on it after the sacrifices had been enjoyed by Shen Teng.
After finishing it, Chi Shao returned to his yard to continue working, while Jiang Xuan walked into the crop field.
After half a year of hard work, the red crystal rice is finally ready!
Looking around, you can see three to four meters high red crystal rice in continuous sheets, the thick purple-red stems and leaves are very conspicuous, and the plump red ears are hanging down in bunches, which is very gratifying.
Because of the accumulation of planting experience and the extensive use of compost, pond mud, and crushed animal bones, the yield of each red crystal rice plant is higher than last year.
After this year's harvest, the Vine Tribe no longer needs to save all the red crystal rice seeds, and can use more than half of it for food.
If there is still a good harvest next year, the Teng tribe can feed half of its people on red crystal rice alone.
In addition to red crystal rice, the growth of tuber food crops such as round potatoes, stone eggs, and polygonatum is also quite good, and a real bumper harvest is expected.
Gan Song and Jiang Xuan walked on the path in the crop field and said in high spirits: "Chief, the number of people in the planting team has increased this year, and the harvest has also increased. I think the two granaries will definitely not be able to hold it!"
Jiang Xuan smiled and said: "You mean, you want me to build a granary?"
Gan Song said confidently: "Yes, we must build a granary!"
Jiang Xuan looked at the nearly mature crops on the ground and said cheerfully: "Okay, then build a granary and build a very big granary!"
"Chief, our food will definitely fill the new granary!"
"Then I'll wait and see."
Jiang Xuan was not just trying to deal with Gan Song. After leaving the crop field, he immediately started preparing to build a granary.
In the past, the houses of the rattan tribe used bamboo and wood as building materials.
Because these two materials are easy to obtain, the house can be built quickly.
But the shortcomings of this kind of house are also obvious.
They will rot quickly due to exposure to wind, sun, rain, snow, and a large number of moths.
The bamboo house originally built by Jiang Xuan and the five men has been reinforced several times and may collapse one day.
A house with a bamboo and wood structure will last long unless the entire house is painted with several layers of tung oil to prevent insect infestation and cracking, and tiles are added to protect it from the sun and rain.
But given the current conditions of the Teng tribe, which is still struggling to make ends meet, it is obviously impossible to build such a house.
Therefore, Jiang Xuan has been thinking about how to build a house that is strong and durable enough, does not require any skills, and has easy-to-obtain raw materials.
The first thing he thought of was a rammed earth wall. This kind of wall is made of earth as its raw material, with strong wooden strips added as "ribs" and hammered tightly. After drying, it is very strong and resistant to weathering.
But here comes the problem. Rammed earth walls require tools. Even the simplest mortise and tenon structural plywood cannot be made by the rattan tribe.
Let’s talk about the tiles.
Jiang Xuan can make pottery, so it is no problem to make tiles.
However, a house requires a very large number of tiles. It would take a very long time to burn enough tiles for a house in the small kilns of the Teng tribe.
There are currently at least hundreds of houses in the Vine tribe, and the number of tiles required is extremely large.
Therefore, the idea of a rammed-earth house with tiled roofs is temporarily abandoned. When the Vine Tribe becomes stronger in the future, we can give it a try.
However, Jiang Xuan remembered another kind of house. The manufacturing process was much simpler than the rammed earth tile house, and the strength was not bad.
This chapter is not over, please click on the next page to continue reading! That is the mud brick thatched house.
Mud bricks are made of soil mixed with plant straw. After mixing with mud, they are made into the shape of long square bricks. After drying, they are very strong and can be directly used to build walls.
The production process of thatched roof is not complicated. You only need to set up beams, tie wide bamboo slices to form a grid, and then tie the thatch layer by layer to make a thatched roof.
If conditions permit, you can also lay several layers of bark on the roof, which will provide much better waterproofing than thatch alone.
The Vine Tribe has no shortage of soil, plant straw, thatch, or bark, and is fully equipped to build mud-brick thatched houses.
Even for making simple molds for mud bricks, Jiang Xuan can use clay to bake several thick clay molds instead of wooden boards.
For example, the hard work of planing wooden boards and splicing them with mortise and tenon joints was easier for Jiang Xuan than firing pottery molds.
After thinking about it, Jiang Xuan immediately began to prepare to build a strong and spacious mud brick thatched house to serve as the new warehouse of the Vine Tribe!
The first thing to make is the mud brick mold.
Considering that pottery products are relatively easy to break, Jiang Xuan planned to make ten molds, which would allow more people to make mud bricks together, and it would be acceptable to break one or two.
He first found some rope, and based on a small length of rope, he used the Pythagorean theorem, that is, the principle of hooking three strands, four strings and five, to carve a right angle on the ground, and based on this right angle, he drew three other right angles.
Form a relatively regular rectangle.
Then, he found the clay that he had dug before, mixed it with mud, and made a rough prototype of the mud brick mold. He placed it in the rectangle carved on the ground and constantly calibrated the angle.
This work is very important. If the mud brick mold is not made well, the mud bricks made later will be crooked, which will make it more difficult to build the wall well.
In order to prevent serious deformation of the mold, he made it very thick. After adjusting the angle, as long as it is not moved, it will basically not deform unless it cracks.
Subsequently, he used the same method to make nine other molds and let them dry and shape in place to prevent the molds from deforming during the move.
One day later, the surface of the mold was dry and basically finalized. Jiang Xuan moved them into the house and continued drying in the shade.
The process of drying in the shade lasts for six or seven days. If it is not completely dried, the water vapor inside will expand after being fired in the kiln, which will cause the pottery to crack.
When he looked at the ten mud brick molds, he felt a strange sense of satisfaction in his heart.
While waiting for drying in the shade, Jiang Xuan found a dozen soldiers, built a piece of higher flat land, and asked them to collect a large amount of reeds and dry them in the sun.
Ordinary thatch is very light and is easily blown away by strong winds, but reed is different. Not only is it not easily blown away, but because it grows tall, it does not need to be bundled in layers like ordinary thatch when making a roof, which is convenient and practical.
.
The most important thing is that there is a large reed marsh next to Feiyu River, which is very abundant in materials.
After seven days, the mud brick molds were completely dried in the shade. Jiang Xuan put ten mud brick molds into two earthen kilns respectively and lit a fire at the same time. The fire burned all night.
The next day, when the temperature of the earthen kiln dropped down, Jiang Xuan opened the earthen kiln and obtained nine mud brick molds that were successfully fired, and one that cracked for unknown reasons.
With the repaired ground, molds, and reeds, Jiang Xuan found some wood left over from building the house, and the construction of the new granary could finally begin!
Jiang Xuan recruited a dozen soldiers to dig out the mountain mud, mix it with plant straw and mud, and then put it into a mold and press it tightly to turn it into pieces of mud bricks.
After a few days, they had produced enough mud bricks to build a house.
After these mud bricks are dried, a house can be built.
Jiang Xuan followed his own plan. After drying the mud bricks, he first built a wall, mixed mud and lime, and used it as cement to glue the mud bricks together.
After building the wall, they used thick wood as pillars and beams to prop up the roof of the new granary.
On the roof, bamboo slices and beams are tied into a grid, and covered with two layers of strong bark.
Finally, they neatly bundled a large number of reeds onto the roof and laid two or three layers in a row to complete the roof laying.
It took nearly a month, and with the efforts of Jiang Xuan and a dozen soldiers, a brand new mud brick thatched house was finally built!
This thatched house is three meters high and covers an area of about one hundred square meters. Although it is relatively rough, it can be regarded as a mansion among a large number of low and simple bamboo houses and wooden houses!
When the new granary was built, Chi Shao, Lao Wu, Uncaria and others, as well as many warriors from the Teng tribe, all stood in front of the house and stared blankly at the brand new house.
The old witch exclaimed: "Who would believe that this is a house that a small tribe can build?"
In fact, the old witch has traveled to so many places and has never seen a house like this.
Nan Xing couldn't wait to ask Jiang Xuan: "Chief, can we all live in such a good house in the future?"
Jiang Xuan smiled and said: "Of course, we can all live in a big and sturdy house in the future."
Chi Shao said: "I really hope that day comes soon."
Everyone nodded one after another, looking forward to the day when they could live in such a strong and spacious house.
Gan Song was the most excited because he did not expect that when the leader said to build a new granary, he actually built a new granary, and it was better than all the existing houses.
The new granary has been built, and now it depends on whether the harvested crops can fill up the new granary and the two old granaries!
After seeing the new granary, Gan Song immediately returned to work in the crop fields.
The autumn harvest has begun.
Many vegetables and grains that mature earlier are being harvested, dried, and then put into warehouses for storage.
The red crystal rice plants are tall and have extremely high yields. Although the growth cycle is a bit long, they have matured in the past two days and can be harvested.
After the new granary was built, Jiang Xuan immediately participated in the busy autumn harvest.
This chapter is not over yet, please click on the next page to continue reading! But the first thing he harvested were the crops grown in his yard.
He has picked three crops of colored peppers when they are fully mature, and obtained a lot of seeds. After drying them, he stored them in small clay pots.
Moreover, the colorful peppers are still blooming and bearing fruit, and it looks like they can be picked until it snows.
The black bean is also mature. This soybean is about the size of a quail egg and looks like a black pearl. It is different from what Jiang Xuan thought. It is actually a vine.
In order to give them a place to climb, Jiang Xuan inserted some large branches where the black beans were planted.
Now, the black bean pods have dried up and some have cracked.
Jiang Xuan picked all the pods of a black bean plant and put them in a half-animal skin bag. The amount of black beans peeled out was estimated to be five or six kilograms. The yield was unbelievably high.
After he collected all the dozens of black bean plants, he actually packed several large animal skin bags, which made him very happy.
Jiang Xuan sighed: "The yield of food crops in this world is so high!"
However, when he thought about it, the animals in this world were all very large, and even the insects were ridiculously large. Without these high-yielding plants, it would be impossible to feed them.
In addition to colored peppers and black beans, Jiang Xuan also planted some vegetables and spices, and he harvested everything he could.
Finally, there is the ice lotus root in the pool.
The ice lotus roots have already produced several lotus pods, which were collected by Jiang Xuan. He doesn't know if those lotus seeds will grow if they are planted.
Apart from the lotus pods, the most important lotus root in the mud is the lotus root.
Jiang Xuan did not dig up all the lotus roots because he hoped that these ice lotus roots would continue to grow next year.
Jiang Xuan walked into the pool barefoot, first scooped out the water in the pool with a large clay pot, then followed the stem of the ice lotus root, put his hand into the mud, and touched an ice lotus root.
"Gaba..."
Jiang Xuan broke off the ice lotus root and picked it up.
He first washed it in the bamboo pipe under running water, then picked it up and looked at it.
"it's beautiful."
This ice lotus root obviously grew this year. It is relatively tender, translucent, and as beautiful as carved from crystal, but it is a bit smaller.
"Taste how it tastes."
Jiang Xuan cut a piece of ice lotus root with a stone knife, then put it in his mouth and took a bite.
However, the next moment his brows frowned slightly.
"It doesn't seem as tender as the ice lotus root from the Otter tribe, and it's not as sweet either."
Jiang Xuan took a few more bites and found that it was indeed not as delicious as the ice lotus root produced by the Otter tribe, and he did not feel the rush of blood after eating it.
Jiang Xuan said a little disappointed: "It seems that this thing can't be grown anywhere. Let's dig a lake and try again next year."
He put away the remaining ice lotus roots, then put the bamboo pipe running water on the pool again, and continued to work on other things.
