Chapter 17 Means of Self-Protection

Spring of the first year after the establishment of the Vine Tribe, March 2nd.

In the forest to the south of the Teng tribe, a dozen bighorn sheep grazed with their heads lowered and watched their surroundings vigilantly. They would flee as soon as there was the slightest disturbance.

These bighorn sheep have brown fur and are huge. Adult bighorn sheep weigh more than 500 kilograms.

The most obvious feature of the bighorn sheep is the pair of huge curved horns on its head. It is not as slim as other horns, but as big as a bison's horns.

"Whoops!"

Suddenly, an arrow flew out from a gap in the branches of a big tree and shot towards a bighorn sheep like lightning.

"What!"

The bighorn sheep was shot in the abdomen. It let out a scream, then ran away with the arrow buried in its belly.

The sheep are in chaos.

"咻咻咻咻..."

At this moment, four feather arrows were shot from the other two directions. Two of the feather arrows hit the same bighorn sheep, and the other two missed.

The herd of bighorn sheep started running wildly, especially the two bighorn sheep that had been hit by arrows. They screamed and ran, panicking.

"Chase!"

Jiang Xuan jumped down from a big tree, carried his bow and arrows behind his back, held a bamboo spear in his hand, and ran quickly with the sheep.

Red Peony Root, Uncaria Uncaria, Stone Loach, and Nan Xing also jumped down from their respective trees and followed Jiang Xuan.

Fortunately, they are all warriors of the same color now, and their physiques are much stronger than ordinary people. Otherwise, it would be difficult to catch up with the extremely fast running bighorn sheep.

As time went by, the two bighorn sheep that had been hit by arrows began to bleed from their wounds due to their violent movements. They ran slower and slower, and gradually failed to keep up with the herd, and finally collapsed.

After the two bighorn sheep fell, Jiang Xuan and others who caught up immediately stepped forward to kill the bighorn sheep completely.

Chi Shao used the bamboo tube she carried with her to collect fresh sheep blood from the sheep's neck. Instead of drinking it raw as usual, she planned to take it back and cook it.

The same goes for the other four people, none of them drank raw blood.

Because of the lack of salt, the blood of mammals such as bighorn sheep can replenish the necessary salt consumption after a large amount of exercise. Therefore, drinking blood is normal for tribal people.

Ever since Jiang Xuan used the name of the old man in his dream to tell them that drinking raw blood would make them sick, Chi Shao and others no longer drank raw blood, but took it back and cooked it before eating.

Jiang Xuan pulled out the feather arrow from the belly of the bighorn sheep, wiped the blood on it, and said: "The bow and arrow I have practiced for so long has really come in handy. Hunting these large prey is much easier than before."

Chi Shao agreed: "Yes, the bow and arrow can shoot far, and the prey will be hit unprepared. It is much better than throwing short spears and slings."

Uncaria looked at the two bighorn sheep happily and said: "Such big horns will look good hanging on the wall."

Tribal people like to decorate their houses and themselves with the horns, teeth, feathers, etc. of their prey, and several teenagers are no exception.

They thought about peeling off the sheep's skull completely after returning and hanging it on the wall of the bamboo house as a decoration.

Jiang Xuandao: "Let's tie them up with rattan first, and then find two poles to carry them back."

"Yes, leader."

The five people immediately started working.

Ten minutes later, the two bighorn sheep were tied up, the poles for carrying the sheep were found, and they could go home immediately.

Suddenly, a faint whistling sound came from the distance.

Jiang Xuan held his breath and listened. He was familiar with that sound, because it was the sound made by tribesmen when they drove away prey.

"Whoosh whoosh whoosh..."

Jiang Xuan quickly climbed to the tallest tree nearby. Standing above the jungle, he could hear the sounds more clearly, mixed with the screams of beasts.

Because of the dense trees, Jiang Xuan could hear the sound, but could not see anyone. He could only see a group of frightened birds.

Jiang Xuan climbed down from the tree and said to Chi Shao with a solemn expression: "The hunting range of those people is getting closer and closer to here. Sooner or later, they will find where our tribe is."

When he saw the smoke from the campfire for the first time, Jiang Xuan knew that some tribesmen from outside had come to this jungle.

Later, they could see smoke from time to time, getting closer and closer, and now they could even hear the sound of hunting.

This makes Jiang Xuan very anxious. The Teng tribe has finally managed to live a better life through its own efforts. He cannot tolerate everything being destroyed.

Chi Shao comforted: "With the Vine God here, even if they find our Vine Tribe, they won't attack easily, because even if they defeat the Vine Tribe, they won't get much."

Jiang Xuan nodded. What Chi Shao said makes sense. There are only five of them, and they have not settled here for a long time, and they have very few supplies.

If people from other tribes find that defeating them requires heavy casualties, they probably won't attack easily.

However, Jiang Xuan couldn't figure out what was going on with the old vine, and he couldn't guarantee that the old vine would definitely take action to protect them.

For the sake of his own life, he cannot put all his hopes on that old vine. He must find a way to protect himself.

"Go back first."

Jiang Xuan and Chi Shao lifted a big horn sheep, and Uncaria and Stone Loach also lifted a big horn sheep. As for the youngest Nan Xing, they were on guard.

Half a day later, the five people returned to the bamboo house, and the two bighorn sheep were quickly disposed of.

After the sheepskin is peeled off, dried and soaked, it can be used to make winter animal skin clothing or bedding for the bed.

As the three teenagers wished, the sheep heads were used as decorations after removing the meat.

All the mutton is cut into pieces and hung over the fire pit to smoke and roast day and night to prevent it from spoiling.

Sheep bones are used to make weapons and tools such as bone knives, bone spears, and bone spears.

Almost every part of the bighorn sheep will be effectively used, even those parts that are inedible will be thrown into fishing traps as bait.

Tribal people have lived in an environment of scarce supplies for a long time, and they will not waste anything they can use.

After handling the two bighorn sheep, Jiang Xuan and the other five had a hearty meal, and then gained the strength to continue working.

"I want to dig a tunnel under our bamboo bed. If people from other tribes come to attack us, we can temporarily hide in the tunnel."

Jiang Xuan told Chi Shao and others his thoughts.

The inspiration for digging tunnels came from the tunnel battles I had seen in my previous life.

During the war, people used their survival wisdom to the extreme.

They dig tunnels under their stoves, under beds, under cupboards, and in various hidden places.

Whenever the enemy comes, they hide in secret tunnels and let the enemy defeat them. After the enemy is gone, they come out and continue living.

Jiang Xuan plans to temporarily dig a simple tunnel for self-protection. He believes that as long as the tunnel is hidden, it will be difficult for the tribesmen to discover them.

After hearing this, Chi Shao's eyes lit up and she said: "This method is good, I agree."

"We also agree."

Jiang Xuan nodded and said: "Okay, starting from today, we will take turns digging tunnels."

Just as he was told, Jiang Xuan immediately took the bones, moved a bamboo bed, and started digging.

Thanks to the increase in strength and the improvement of tools, although there are many bamboo roots underground, Jiang Xuan can still dig faster.

Chi Shao used rattan baskets to carry baskets of soil dug out by Jiang Xuan to the farmland outside.

From this day on, they will assign two people to dig tunnels every day, and the others will be responsible for hunting, fishing, and planting.

A few days later, there was a tunnel inside the bamboo house of the Teng tribe, and it continued to be widened and deepened.

With this tunnel, if they encounter unstoppable danger in the future, they can temporarily hide in the tunnel to save their lives.
