Chapter 2 Dream

She lowered her head and looked at her coat. Covered in dirt and dust, the original color could no longer be seen. Red? Pink? Now it looked almost black.

She took off her coat and threw it on the window sill. She dusted the surrounding area and sat on it with her arms supported.

Leaning against the angle between the window and the narrow wall, I pressed my ears against the glass to feel the amplified wind sound.

She didn't feel tired, she just felt curious and bored, ready to listen to the storm while waiting for the owner of the camera to tell her everything.

The sound of the wind matched the beating of the heartbeat, the sky gradually turned dark, and everything in front of me gradually became blurry.

The world seemed to have quieted down, and the sound of the harsh wind blowing across the window sill was no longer heard.

She moved and felt that she was conscious. It wasn't that she couldn't hear anything, but that the outside world had stopped making noise.

His body was numb, so he was asleep, Xiaolan thought to himself, wondering if he missed the arrival of the camera owner.

When she opened her eyes, she was stunned.

Everything in front of me is different.

Green, green, green.

What she saw when she opened her eyes was the dense green tree crowns, one by one, surrounding her in the middle. From this perspective, it seemed as if she was being swept into the depths of the ocean by a green whirlpool.

She struggled to support her body and looked at the tall tree crowns around her and the thick fallen leaves beneath her.

Recalling her state in the last second, Xiaolan felt that her brain was in the same predicament as herself, as if it was stuck in the thick air in the vortex, and she didn't know who she was or where she was.

She got up and decided to walk around.

My body is wet. How long have I been lying here?

The ground is covered with yellow and green leaves, and there are no traces of anyone walking. The newly fallen green leaves cover the rotten old leaves, and the air is full of the smell of plant decay.

This smell is familiar yet strange, as if I am seeing what is happening in another distant world through a mirror, but that sense of familiarity also seems to say, you cannot escape, this happened because of you.

Xiaolan staggered through the woods with one foot deep and one foot shallow.

The sky that occasionally peeks out between the trees is gray, and in my ears I can hear my own slight breathing and the sound of crushing fallen leaves.

The boundaries of the woods cannot be seen, and there is no sign of life here, not even the chirping of insects and birds and the jointing of plants.

She couldn't catch the joyful sounds of any life other than her own, but she didn't feel too flustered. She just felt as if a hand was pushing her somewhere, and a voice from her heart told her, let's go, don't be afraid.

Walking with no end in sight.

She tried to walk to a place with a wide view. Looking down from the hillside, she could see the canopy of trees and could not see the edge of the forest.

The sky was getting darker, and lightning occasionally lit up in the distance.

Lightning rode the wind and approached her, and the colorful cracks seemed to hit her head in the next second. She knew that a storm was inevitable, and while there was still a glimmer of daylight, the right way was to find a place to hide from the rain.

The dazzling lightning almost fell next to her. She looked to the far end of her field of vision through the light of the lightning, but what appeared in front of her made her freeze in place.

Is that...a tombstone?

She squinted her eyes in an attempt to see clearly what was at the foot of the mountain in the distance.

The monument-shaped stone is leaning lazily in front of the mountain peak.

In the vast space between heaven and earth, this inconspicuous stone attracted her attention.

Finally, a thunder exploded, as if it was right next to her ears.

The state of absent-mindedness amplified the sound of thunder. The thunder rose and fell continuously, echoing over and over again in her dull mind, until it merged with another sound. The two sounds overlapped into one, hitting her eardrums over and over again.

Her vision went dark.

Her head hit the glass window hard, and the moment she woke up, she seemed to be back to her original state of ignorance.

He stared blankly at the small window sill beneath him, at the dusty toilet cubicle, at the weird camera, and at the window.

The sky was completely dark, and thick dark clouds filled the sky. Sitting by the window of a short and small building, surrounded by desolation and emptiness, she felt like she was being suffocated by these dark clouds.

The confusion did not last long, and she quickly recalled her current state.

So it must have been a dream just now. She looked at the crazy howling rainstorm outside the window and thought to herself, the rain was so loud that it started to rain even in the dream. The sound of rain created the dream just now, and the sound of rain also changed me in the dream.

woke up.

Sitting upright, she stretched her limbs to relax her muscles. The expected stiffness and soreness did not appear, but the feeling of strength appeared again.

It seems that even a short rest is useful.

The power that pushed her to explore in the morning was now full of presence, making her want to search and discover.

Holding her arms on the edge of the window sill, she jumped down. The moment her feet landed, she discovered the dissonance in the performance.

What sounded together with the sound of her feet landing was the sound of a light door opening from downstairs.

"Creak-bang!"

The person below closed the door rudely, and no other sound was heard after that.

She was curious and nervous, hoping that the camera owner she was expecting was back, but also felt that the person waiting in such bad weather might not be the right person.

She decided to wait and see, waiting for the man's footsteps to appear on the stairs and at the door, then she could go up and use the camera to question him.

She stood there and waited, not daring to make a sound, her hands hanging down by her sides.

She suddenly felt that she was stupid like this, and she should do something at this time, no matter what.

Standing on tiptoes, she gently walked towards the tripod in an attempt to remove the camera.

But she found that she could only recognize the appearance of the camera, but had no idea how to remove it.

Thinking that its owner might be down there, she didn't dare to act recklessly, thinking she'd better find the person first.

Xiaolan lay next to the door and listened carefully for a while. Xiaolan made sure that there was no sound of anyone moving, and opened the toilet door while wondering.

The corridor was already dark, and she could only vaguely find the stairs to go down, holding on to the railings and groping down step by step.

The air smelled of earth, and under the cover of the rain, she quietly reached the first floor.

He looked up at the door when he came in. The door looked completely different from when he came in. The door that was originally dilapidated but still strong now only had the right half left, and the left half of the door had turned into a big hole and debris on the ground.

It turns out that the earthy smell in the corridor comes from here.

She approached the big hole on the left and looked outside the hole. There were several thick chains hung between the two doors. The chains were already rusty. The wind and rain outside the door were blowing on them, and they were also blowing on her beside the big hole.

Was the chain there when I came in? Her memory was blurred. It seemed like the chain had been with the two doors for a long time. So how did I get in?

The memory went into the fog of the unknown. When other things were clearly reflected in my mind, the chain on the door seemed to be encrypted and blurred. I only remembered that I walked into the building easily, and then walked towards it without hesitation.

Upstairs.

When her memory reaches its dead end, she doesn't want to think about it anymore.

I don't have the energy or interest to do such a thing now.

But no matter what, the fragments and big holes in front of me were unprecedented.

Did the person just break the door? She thought of the loud noise that woke her up. She originally thought it was the sound of a noisy thunderstorm, but it seemed that she had misunderstood it.

Someone who doesn't belong here has come in.

She thought of the sound of opening and closing the door she heard after waking up. Since it was not the sound of the door, then that person might be there at the moment...
