Chapter 5 On the Wings of Steam

Jonah stood in front of the mirror and remembered the prophecy of the betrayer Segres.

"On October 6, Gamaliel descended from heaven, taking with him all the chosen pagans. Ayala could not see him, Ayala could not hear him, but he dwelt in the palace of bones and was not disturbed.'

Don't go near the mirror,' Gamaliel gave him the advice."

The prophecy has been fulfilled. A demon descended from the sky and entered his body. He was unable to resist. Facing the power of evil, he was as powerless as a newborn lamb.

The memory after dusk yesterday was particularly clear. Jonah knew that the person who curiously touched every object in the room, walked down the stairs awkwardly, tasted the bland dinner with heart, and chatted and laughed with Teacher Keshava,

Definitely not himself.

Another soul took over his body and walked in the world, and Gamaliel became the master of Ayala's body. Unlike the prophecy, Jonah felt extremely desperate and panicked.

After opening his eyes in the morning light, Jonah spent half an hour standing in front of the mirror to verify whether the thin guy with a pale face and helpless eyes in the mirror was the real him.

There was the smell of sulfur and rosin in the air, and the sunlight illuminated the quill and calculus board that he was so familiar with on the table. The steam puppet stood quietly in front of the telescope, and an open book of "Straight Lines and Broken Lines: Between the Stars" rested on the bedside.

"The Multiple Connections of Forces", this is the introductory textbook for Star Warlocks, the last book that the Adventer read before falling asleep, - Stupid Demon! He had memorized all the contents of this book six years ago.

Jonah clenched his fists and his body trembled involuntarily. In addition to fear, a huge sense of humiliation enveloped his seventeen-year-old soul. A tear slipped unsatisfactorily from the corner of his mouth. Jonah wiped it away with the back of his hand and stared at it.

Looking at his red eyes in the mirror.

Calm down, I want to calm down. The young astrology apprentice said to himself.

Having a self proves that the descendant has not erased his personality. Where has the devil gone now? Hiding in the cracks of the alien world and laughing ferociously, or is he sleeping deep in my mind? No matter what, at least now, I am the master of my body.

Jonah stroked his undulating chest, took a deep breath, and slowly exhaled.

The prophecy is correct. This is a omen, a test, and a beginning. The endless night sky is above. It must be something that the power in the dark needs me to do. Jonah was shocked and felt sober as never before.

I remember when I was four years old, when my tutor took me from the hands of my mother who was hiding her face in tears and my father who was bowing his head and being speechless, it took the farmer father a long time to say his parting words: "Child, no, the future

Lord Star Warlock, please remember: you will reap what you sow."

Jonah's impression of his biological parents was limited to this, and he could not even recall their appearance, but this simple proverb from a St. Bolen farmer remained fresh in his memory.

Jonah turned around and walked into the sunshine, opened the blinds, and looked out at the vast and barren red clay plains.

He believed since childhood that everyone has an innate mission. He once thought that his mission was to reveal the truth of the starry sky; in that dimly lit room a few years ago, the unnamed book buried deep doubts in his heart. Now,

, everything has been fulfilled, the betrayer Segres, the mysterious prophet whom he has never met, is the giver of his mission, and his unknown life will begin from this moment.

Jonah had a strong premonition that disaster was coming, and he also had a strong premonition that he would push the heavy gears of destiny to start turning.

He clenched his fists again.

Yes, the all-knowing betrayer Segres will provide guidance, and he will follow the prophecy and sow the seeds that will change the future - even if the prophecy guides him to betray his original faith.

Jonah seemed to feel that the fragments of the nameless book he kept close to his chest were heating up in his chest, giving him strength.

Yesterday was the "Day of Advent". It was unknown how many people's souls were captured, and it was unclear when the Adventer would come again. His time was tight.

Jonah carefully took out the pages, placed them on the table, and drew a circle with a quill to mark the next prophecy.

Written on the papyrus paper, which looked like fire marks:

"On October 29, when the flames fell and the river was polluted, Ayala said to his companions: 'I will wait elsewhere.'"

October 29th.

Jonah frowned.

The day of advent shown in the previous prophecy is October 6, which is yesterday, April 3, 2305 of the Unified Calendar. If the calendar in the unknown book has the same rules as the Unified Calendar, then the moment when the next prophecy occurs will be Unified Calendar.

April 26th, three and a half weeks later.

Jonah took out a piece of white paper and rustled down the date.

The water of the river has been polluted. Jonah muttered as he took out a tattered copy of "Geographic Survey of the Western Continent" from his bookcase. This is a publication of the Mathematics Bachelor's Association and can be regarded as an after-school book for astrologers.

The title page is a continental topographic map hand-painted with magic ink. Only those wearing the badges of the five major associations can read the magic patterns with their fingers. This is a small confidentiality measure within the association alliance.

According to the Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, the Western Continent is a fan shape. "Cut the pancake on your plate into four pieces in an X shape. The piece on the left is the land under your butt." Teacher Keshava was not as old as he is now.

, easy to forget and nagging, can be considered a qualified tutor.

"The periphery of the circular world is endless mountains, so high that no bird can fly over; the center of the world is a large lake that never dries up, because the four rivers originate from the endless mountains and flow into the lake. Every year, thousands of fools

We died in the mouths of monsters just to catch a glimpse of the Great Lakes - Remember, no matter which continent we live on, we live in the position of sausages and mushrooms: the outer ring of pancakes. The closer we get to the center, the denser the monsters are. If I want to survive, I

At your age, don’t have any curiosity for adventure.”

Jonah recalled his mentor's words.

The Western Continent is separated from other continents by two large rivers. The prophecy mentions that "the river water is polluted", which must be referring to the holy river "Yonfang" in the south.

This river is the widest, most rapid, and most difficult to cross among the four major rivers. On the north bank of the holy river, there live the primitive people of Colombo who worship the river. They do not belong to any country. Year after year, they use powerful force to protect the "other side".

Sacred. Any reduction (drawing water from the river) or increase (throwing items into the river) is considered a blasphemy against the "other side". The anger of the Colombo tribe is expressed by overwhelming flying spears. They have the most powerful throwing spears in the Western Continent.

Spearman.

The only ferry on the other side of the Holy River in the Western Continent is called Cherry Ferry. It is a chaotic area with no government and law. The ferry is only open twice a year. Taking advantage of the Colombo people's spring and autumn hunting festivals, one ferry is sent to the other side of the Southern Continent each time.

Receive a ship from the other side.

In other words, unless you get the favor of the owner of the world-traveling steam airship "Lame Henry", the only way to cross the Holy River is to buy or rob a ticket at Cherry Ferry, and then wait patiently for the Hunting Festival

advent.

The "Geographic Survey of the Western Continent" accidentally mentioned that the spring hunting festival usually occurs at the end of April or the beginning of May according to the Colombo calendar.

That's right, that must be the case.

Jonah turned the pages of the book with excitement. The next prophecy must happen in Cherry Crossing.

The territory of the Kingdom of St. Bollen occupies the plain area in the south-central part of the Western Continent. It borders the Zawi Empire to the north, is surrounded by more than ten vassal principalities on the east and west sides, and is adjacent to the long and narrow Kingdom of Bazelal to the south.

The southern border of Bazeral is the Colombo Occupied Area on the northwest bank of the Holy River, and the special area in the occupied area: Cherry Crossing.

If we set out from the red clay plain now and walk at walking speed, we can reach the ferry in two weeks.

Thinking of this, Jonah tore off the magic map and put it away together with the remaining pages of the nameless book. He opened the door and walked along the sloping stairs to Teacher Keshava's research room at the top of the tower.

The knock on the door rang for a long time, and then the old man's manic shouting came from inside the oak door: "Come back in three hours! You rude young man, I told you a few years ago that you should be hanged for disturbing the old man's sleep.

Yes!" Jonah obediently turned around and went downstairs, feeling a little more at ease: at least now, the mentor is still the mentor himself and has not been controlled by the descendant.

He returned to his hut, and while planning the distant path to Cherry Ferry, he was playing with the steam puppet. The joystick behind the puppet was an unfamiliar combination. Jonah cursed with some irritability that it came from nowhere.

Come on, reset the handles one by one.

White smoke rose up, and the puppet waved its arms and took steps. Jonah looked at it for a while, and realized that he should prepare some luggage for himself.

Growing up in this narrow tower, he had never been further than the three-hour journey to Red Stone Castle. Once a month, a supply team sent by the association drove a dusty carriage to the foot of the Astrology Tower.

, Jonah wanted to ask the experienced leader what interesting places he had been to, but of course, the astrologer's apprentice's reserve prevented him from asking.

Food. Water. Clothes. As many crystals and gems as possible, engraved star arrays, a few gold coins, small magic props that can attract fire and condense water vapor, a cane, and of course, it is best to have a letter from a mentor to astrology

A letter of introduction from the Association of Astrologers, so that he can get more privileges at the offices of the Association of Astrologers in various countries that cannot be enjoyed with just the apprenticeship badge.

Jonah filled his deerskin bag with blank crystals, gems engraved with star arrays and magic props. He took some hard bread, beans, dried meat, and underwear from downstairs, and a change of robes.

After digging out the big package, he finally found out the cane given to him by Teacher Keshava last year. The top of the cane was inlaid with a red crystal and engraved with a simple star array - this was specially prepared by the old man for him to walk at night.

Thinking of leaving his mentor, Jonah suddenly felt a little guilty, but the great sense of mission was burning in his chest. He took out the remaining pages of the unknown book and the map, read them again and again, carefully placed them in his deerskin bag, sat down, and thought about it.

Thinking about it, he took it out again and put it back in his chest pocket.
