12. Amphibious warfare

Mandalay is generally called Wa City by the Chinese. It is the most important transportation hub in Myanmar. There are railways connecting Yangon, Ruili and Myitkyina in the northwest. After the Republican Army regained brother Myanmar, they began to build a railway from Mandalay.

The railway to Maulat in western Myanmar, while the railway line in Myitkyina is extended through the Hukham Valley to Xinbuyan in northwest Myanmar.

The mountainous area in northern Myanmar has an average altitude of about 3,000 meters. It has rolling steep mountains, a dense network of rivers, and tropical primeval forests. It is the most complex terrain in the world. You can imagine how difficult it is for the Republican Army to build railways and roads in this area.

Know.

Due to natural conditions, the railways and roads in western Myanmar can only extend westward at a speed of a little more than one kilometer per day. After more than a year, the northwestern railway in Myanmar has been built to Maolak and Xinbuyan, and there is another

The road leads to Humarin, and the Republican army gradually approaches the Imphal area, which is heavily defended by the British army.

Although it is still in the dry season, the water in several rivers in western Myanmar has begun to rise. On the dangerous Chindwin River, engineers and soldiers have already built several box-type pontoons. Four-wheel trucks loaded with soldiers and towed artillery behind them

As they were reaching the pontoon bridge and sailing to the other side, on the slightly narrower simple pontoon bridge, groups of Republican officers and soldiers were also lining up to cross the river.

Rumbles of artillery continued to be heard from the Ukhrul mountainous area about forty kilometers ahead, marked by the Republican Army's attack on the British forward position in Ukhrul. The Republican Army aimed to liberate India and expel the British colonial authorities and

The army's "Battle of Tianzhu" officially begins.

On March 29, 1939, General Li Hanming, the commander-in-chief of the Burma-India Theater of the Republic of China, made a special trip to Yangon when the Imphal area was raging. The Yangon Port was still shrouded in fog in the early morning, but the Marine Corps in the port

The 31,000 officers, soldiers and equipment of the 7th Division have boarded 32 large transport ships and are ready to go under the escort of the Navy's Fourth Fleet.

The Fourth Fleet, commanded by Sa Shijun, has its homeport in Luoyuan Bay. It was originally the main fleet that had the most hope of participating in the war first. However, as the war progressed, the General Staff continued to adjust the battle plan and gave up the plan formulated before the war.

In the Taiwan landing operation plan, the Fourth Fleet, as the main force in the Taiwan Strait operations, has been doing nothing in the Taiwan Strait for almost two years since the war.

In the words of Sa Shijun: The Commander-in-Chief of the North Sea Fleet actually let the Japanese plot against him. I didn’t even see the hair of the Japanese. At most, I saw my own plane flying overhead.

Come and fly.

The Republican Army reaped the benefits of amphibious operations during its operations in Southeast Asia, and due to the test of actual combat, it has become more and more mature in the use of this new combat method that integrates sea, land, and air.

Wei Zihao's task force basically did not gain any results in the Battle of Ceylon. It only blew up more than thirty transport ships. Tovey withdrew to Bombay with the Eastern Fleet and was nowhere to be found.

The only thing worth mentioning about the Battle of Ceylon is that the Republic Navy Air Force carrier-based fighter aircraft destroyed more than 150 British aircraft deployed on the island, and the performance of the Navy's "Saker Falcon" carrier-based aircraft in air combat was even better than that of the British.

The newly equipped "Hurricane" fighter jets of the Air Force prove that the performance of the Navy's carrier-based aircraft can fully meet the standards of land-based combat aircraft.

After the Battle of Ceylon, the Straits Fleet did not rest at all, and began to turn north, entering the Bay of Bengal, and cooperated with the Army Air Force to jointly attack the air power of the British troops stationed in India.

At the same time, the 1st mainland division in Penang and the 2nd mainland division in Mawlamyine also left the harbor under the transport and protection of the fleet.

The first to set off was the 20th Army Brigade. More than 8,000 people in the brigade sailed to their destination on seven transport ships under the escort of the 11th Fleet. Four large cargo ships and an oil tanker also transported heavy equipment and supplies to them.

The fleet sailed north along the Arakan coast at a speed of 14 knots in the drizzle. Their target was the Korsbadal coast south of Jeddah Port. The landing operation was commanded by Rear Admiral Mo Yaoming. The Navy No.

The 11th Fleet consists of the battleship Yandangshan, the cruisers Kaifeng, Lanzhou and Luoyang and eight destroyers, with air support provided by the Army's 16th Group Army Aviation Division based in Haika.

The fleet flagship Yandangshan was originally the French battleship Oceanus captured by the Republican Army. After the two main gun turrets in the middle were dismantled, the number of its main guns was reduced to eight 305mm guns, but the strength of the hull was increased. Due to the replacement of

The power system, this old-fashioned dreadnought built in 1913 and named after General Guba who was killed in the Sino-French naval battle, seems to have regained its vitality, and its speed has actually reached a high speed of 30 knots.

The wind on the sea was not strong, but there was constant rain and fog, and the clouds were very low. In such weather, the aviation forces of both sides were unable to dispatch.

After a three-day journey, the fleet gradually arrived at Kolsbadal. In a tense atmosphere, the landing troops began to approach the planned landing point.

At 11 o'clock in the morning on April 1, the thunderous sound of cannons broke the silence on the coast. Flames were spitting out everywhere on the sea, and the orange-red firelight illuminated the gray sea. The cannonballs streaked across the sky, carrying streaks of fire.

It flew towards the coast in an arc, and a few minutes later, a huge explosion sounded back from the land.

Under the attack of naval guns, a company of Indian soldiers defending the coastal position of Kolsbadar quickly collapsed. The British officers were beaten and kicked to no avail. After the British officers shot several deserters, they also dispersed.

The defeated soldiers fled.

"Landing troops ashore!" the order came from the loudspeaker in the landing ship.

More than 500 officers and soldiers of the 20th Army Brigade Assault Battalion, transported by 30 landing craft, swarmed onto the beach that was riddled with holes. The springboard was lowered with a clang. There was no expected hail of bullets, and they only encountered a few sporadic encounters.

resistance, and successfully occupied the tidal flat.

"Assemble all, occupy Kolsbadal!" As the follow-up troops came ashore one after another, Zheng Zetian, commander of the 1st company of the assault battalion, whistled and greeted loudly. The beach was a mess, and some amphibious tanks and armored vehicles emerged from the water.

I rushed directly to the beach and started to move in depth.

There are some trenches and fortifications reinforced with trees scattered in the forest not far from the coast. Some places were blown to pieces by naval guns. Most of them are still intact, but there are no defensive soldiers inside.

The first to land was the 59th Marine Regiment. After landing, the 1st and 3rd Battalions of the regiment headed north, and the 2nd Battalion headed east, and began to rapidly advance inland, and established a defense line about 10 kilometers away from the landing site.

Ensure that the entire landing beach is not threatened by counterattacks by the British and Indian troops.

Obviously, the British were poorly prepared for the Republican Army to land here. There was only one battalion of the Indian colonial army in Kolsbadal, which was simply unable to withstand the Republican Army's attack.

That night, all the 20th Army Brigade successfully landed. As a large number of tanks, armored vehicles, heavy artillery and other supplies came ashore, the officers and soldiers of the entire brigade made slight adjustments and began to advance towards Jeddah Port, an important port on the Bay of Bengal.
