The county was established at the beginning of the Western Han Dynasty. Because "Nangong Shi", one of the "Eight Scholars" of the Western Zhou Dynasty, lived here in seclusion, it was named Nangong County. It has a history of more than 2,000 years and is now Nangong City. Putong Temple and Putong Pagoda were first built in the Eastern Han Dynasty.
In the 10th year of Ping Dynasty (AD 67), it is located in Yizhou, Nangong City, two hundred miles away from modern Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province. Putong Temple is the earliest temple in Hebei and even the country. It is older than the Baima Temple in Luoyang, which is known as the "No. 1 Temple in China"
The temple was built a year earlier and has a history of more than 1,900 years.
