Chapter 146 The rain over Sicily

It started to drizzle in the sky.

This is Sam's nineteenth day in the field.

The damn Allied forces on the opposite side launched numerous attacks on the position in the past nineteen days. Many of the comrades who came to Sicily with Sam fell under the Allied artillery fire.

Sam's good friend when he was a child, Locke was alive and well a few minutes ago, but a damn bullet came and took his life away in an instant.

Sam watched helplessly as Locke fell beside him, but there was nothing he could do about it. God knew when he would die in such a tragic way.

"Hey, the sergeant major asked us to stay here for two days. Gudrun came to his side and handed a few grenades to Sam.

"Two days?" Sam responded nonchalantly: "Maybe I will be shot by the enemy with a bullet at night."

"Sam, don't be so pessimistic." Gudrun seemed to be comforting his comrades: "I heard that the Chinese have sent troops to Europe. What we have to do now is to hold on here."

Sam shrugged: "Maybe, maybe I won't be killed by the enemy's damn bullets before the Chinese arrive."

Gudrun didn't know how to comfort him. Over the past ten days, Sam had changed from a happy young man to a pessimist. This was not the real Sam.

However, the situation on the battlefield is indeed a bit pessimistic. The enemy's offensive is too fierce, and the unsatisfactory Italians are unable to give the Germans even a little substantive help.

Now all the news has been put on the Chinese, but when will the Chinese arrive on the battlefield has become a very serious problem.

"Hey, hey, the enemy is attacking!"

With this shout, Sam and Gudrun picked up their guns at the same time.

As usual, there was another burst of artillery fire, and then the British, Americans, and Canadians rushed forward with their heads high. As usual, they were greeted by a fierce firepower return from the German army.

This has become a daily occurrence.

The enemy charges, the Germans fight back, and then the enemy retreats. After a short time, the Germans will face fierce artillery fire retaliation from the Allies, and then they continue to charge and fight back, and the enemy continues to retreat. Everything is in reincarnation. There is no day.

It's not like this.

Countless people died, known or unknown. Their bloody corpses were lying on this bloody battlefield.

Maybe even God can't bear to close his eyes now.

An American tank rushed over, and Sam got the order to destroy the tank immediately. Although Sam had become a pessimist, he was a loyal and steadfast follower of the Führer, and he still followed the order.

I will complete it without compromise.

Gudrun served as his cover. The machine gun roared crazily there¨

"God bless me." Sam murmured God's name and then rushed forward with his two companions.

God may have heard Sam's call. He did not let his loyal believer fall under the enemy's gun, but allowed him to successfully complete the mission and blow up the enemy tank.

But Sam returned to the trench alone. One of the two companions who went up with him died, and the other became a prisoner of the enemy.

Sam sat numbly in the trench, not wanting to say anything. The scene that just happened was still clearly flashing in his mind at this moment.

At the moment when the mission was completed, his companion was hit by the enemy's machine gun, and brains mixed with blood spattered on Sam's body, just like the most terrifying hell.

Sam was glad that he did not die, but the death of his companion also brought him great shock and fear, which he may never forget in his life!

This damn war, when will it end?

The day passed reluctantly, many people died, and the air in the Allied and German fields was filled with the strong smell of blood. After smelling it, people had no appetite at all.

Sam didn't want to eat anything, and Sam rejected the biscuits Gudrun offered.

The rain was getting heavier, and even though it was already August, it still made people feel chilly. Sam put on his raincoat, huddled in the trench with his gun in his arms, and stood motionless.

The sergeant major is here, a determined Nazi officer. From the first day of the war to the present, he has always been fighting on the front line, inspiring the soldiers to fight for the glory of Germany with his full spirit. More

Miraculously, he didn't even get a scratch on his skin during the nineteen days of fighting.

"Bullets bypass the bravest people the most." The sergeant major told his men countless times.

"Sergeant Major, what are we going to do tomorrow?" Gudrun asked.

"Tomorrow we will launch a counterattack!" The sergeant major waved his arm vigorously.

"God, counterattack?" Gudrun and his companions almost thought they heard wrongly: "The enemy's attack is so fierce, we are counterattacking at this time?"

"Yes, counterattack at this time!" The sergeant major's voice was full of high fighting spirit: "The neighboring Italians will also counterattack with us. Our task is to seize the A position on the opposite side. Boys, let's fight

Come with your spirit!"

"Italians? They are not worthy of trust." Sam sneered with contempt: "They are only worthy of hiding under a woman's skirt and moaning."

Sam's words immediately caused a burst of laughter in the trenches, and even the usually stern sergeant major couldn't help laughing.°

But he then straightened his face: "Now is not the time to discuss our allies. The orders from our superiors must be fulfilled to the letter. The Italians will cooperate with us in fighting. Have a good night's rest. Tomorrow will be a day

A brutal battle."

The sergeant major finished speaking and left here.

Gudrun poked Sam next to him: "Hey, Sam, do you think we can succeed tomorrow?"

"Who knows?" Sam closed his eyes in the rain.

The next day, the rain became even heavier and turned into a torrential rain. In such weather, the Allies showed no intention to fight. They also believed that the Germans were no longer willing to fight in such weather, right?

But it was this kind of weather that made the attack more sudden!

The Germans quietly entered the attacking position. God is fair, whether it is the side that once had the advantage or the side that is temporarily at a disadvantage.

"Let's get started, boys."

Following the sergeant major's order, all the German soldiers began to quietly move towards the enemy's position.

The rain poured down from the sky, making the front of him blurry, but Sam was sincerely grateful for the heavy rain, which at least improved his chances of survival a lot.

There was still no movement at all on the opposite position.

But just when they were about to reach their position, an American finally discovered these uninvited guests. With a loud cry of "enemy", all the weapons on position A rang out.

A row of German soldiers fell, and the attackers, whose whereabouts had been exposed, finally gave up any illusions and rushed forward with guns in hand without looking back.

The distance of the charge was very short, which was good news for the attacker. The Germans charged up with just one charge.

As all the superior firepower lost its effect, what was left was just the most cruel and primitive outbreak of human nature. They used all available weapons to fight each other, including bayonets, shovels, or anything they could hold in their hands.

Anything.

People fell one after another, and there were shouts of death and lamentations everywhere on the battlefield. And the increasingly heavy rain was washing away the blood on the battlefield!

The Americans were beaten away, and the ground was filled with blood and corpses.

Most of the Germans in a company were injured, and Gudrun was also injured. Fortunately, it was not fatal.

Despite the victory, the sergeant major seemed a little anxious. According to the agreement, the Italians should also launch an attack on his flank at this time, but now there is no movement at all.

What about the Italians? What are they doing?

The soldiers are busy clearing positions and rebuilding trenches. The enemy's counterattack will soon begin.

The sergeant major asked for a radio and loudly asked where the Italians were now, but he got a piece of news that stunned him:

Because the rain was too heavy, the Italians believed that this was not the right time to attack, so they decided to launch a new attack after the rain stopped.

The sergeant major roared angrily. This was the most ridiculous reason he had ever heard. What the Italians did was equivalent to placing the Germans in a death position!

They did not launch an attack as agreed, so what does this mean? It means that the Americans will soon be alert and strengthen the defense on the position, which makes it impossible for the Italians to attack the position. It also means that the German flanks have completely

Exposed to the enemy's gunfire.

Italians cannot be trusted!

The sergeant major cursed and yelled angrily, but this could not change anything at all. Now the Germans must face a terrible and passive situation, and they will have to fight alone. And their only hope is that the Italians can create miracles,

Successfully capture the position they should have captured long ago.

But is this possible? There is no chance that this could happen.

In order for the Italians to complete the tasks they were supposed to complete on the battlefield, it would be more realistic to directly beg God to appear.

The Germans on this position are now in a very dangerous situation!
