Chapter 45: The Kingdom of the Dead

A fragile wall made of rubble separates Tirisfal and the Western Plague in two. Because of its special geographical location, travelers named it the Undead Barrier. A small group of Forgotten Sentinels are stationed here all year round.

After interrogating the guards who passed the barrier, several Forgotten cavalry were responsible for "escorting" Regan and others to the Undercity. Although Nathanos repeatedly emphasized that they were the Queen's guests, the commander here still refused.

Wither's scolding and stubborn insistence on his decision, the Undead Ranger had no choice but to compromise in the end. This shows the Forgotten's attitude towards the living.

After everyone entered Tirisfal Glades from the Western Plaguelands, the surrounding scenery did not seem to have changed much.

Although not as widespread as in the Eastern and Western Plaguelands, the undead plague still spreads an aura of corruption among the trees. Although the trees have not yet turned into giant poisonous mushrooms, the bark still takes on a sickly purple color and the seeds are still scattered.

Full of yellow-green liquid

The most striking sight here is the sky - transformed by magic, like a rotating piece of blue glass dyed with the same pigment that washed the earth into sky blue, which together make up the bizarre scenery here. The mist often permeates the sky.

In the forest, thanks to the distorted sky above, it is almost impossible to tell the difference between day and night.

The people who marveled at these strange sights walked and watched, and the speed of their march naturally slowed down. The soldiers responsible for escorting did not complain, and just followed indifferently.

After walking like this for about half an hour, the undead cavalry suddenly stopped

The leader performed a military salute expressionlessly: "Lord Wither, we have now entered the Undercity defense area. Our humble escort duties have been completed. Please pay attention to the purpose of these living people."

After saying that, he raised his head and looked up, as if he didn't shy away from the living people present at all.

"Well, everyone goes back to their own defense areas," Nathanos waved his hand and smiled apologetically at Regan, "No need to mind these big soldiers, they only show respect to Her Majesty the Queen."

"I've heard about it a long time ago, but today I really learned it." Regan shrugged indifferently, and followed Nathanos as he jumped off the horse and walked into Lordaeron, the once heroic city of mankind.

Lifting his feet and stepping on the rubble-strewn yellow-brown soil, an unreal feeling came to Lei Gen's mind.

——This city is the holy land that the Scarlet Crusaders tried their best to recapture. It is the hometown that Tailan has never forgotten since he was a child. Together with Dalaran, it is the beautiful capital known as the "Two Shus of the North".

But now she is like an old woman, exuding a nose-blocking smell. The moat is filled with green poisonous water waste, and one or two mutated strange fish will occasionally appear; there are still a few pieces of fish left on the gray roof.

Broken flag, with two capital letters "l and d" vaguely visible on it

"Ahead is the throne room of Lordaeron," Nathanos explained seemingly unintentionally, but Regan still saw a trace of something called remembrance in his eyes: this once glorious empire was also the wither.

hometown before death

Many things may make you tired of them at first glance, but there are also some things that you cannot forget even if you spend your whole life.

Regan stood in front of the broken throne, staring at what was once the highest symbol of power in Azeroth - in this grand building, the Menethil family established the powerful Lordaeron dynasty, and King Terenas

He became the most powerful monarch after the split of the Arathor Empire; it was also here that the huge empire that ruled for a while collapsed because of a man.

"Did you hear that?" Nathanos closed his eyes and said softly, "The unwillingness and resentment of that day still remain in the air. This place is not only stained with the blood of the king, but also full of the despair of the people of Lordaeron..."

——"This kingdom...will be destroyed, and in the ruins...a new order will come, and this order will subvert the foundation of the entire world..."

If there is a sound that seems like nothing, echoing in everyone's ears, and the sound of the north wind blowing the flags outside the hall, it makes people feel numb.

"It's such an ominous ghost place," Roxas complained as he rubbed his arms. "It gives me goosebumps all over my body."

"This voice... is so familiar, as if I've heard it somewhere before." Sam frowned in memory.

"How can I not be familiar with it?" Regan walked to the throne and squatted down, looking at the traces that had condensed into black spots.

"The person who said this is the 'Your Majesty' we met in Eastern Plague."

"Wow, it turns out the legend is true!" Sophie stuck out her tongue, "This is indeed the place where Alsace killed his father!"

"And he is also the source of suffering for the entire continent." Nathanos opened his eyes, as if he had just woken up from a long dream. "He destroyed his country, his people... and the peaceful lives of the high elves.

, Her Majesty the Queen and I owe it to him to become what we are today..."

"So our goals are the same, Paladin... There is no need to look at the Undercity with strange eyes. The residents here were once flesh and blood like you, and they even hated the Lich King more than you! As a smart person, I think you

This relationship should be properly handled, remember, we are not enemies... never have been."

Nathanos said meaningfully, turned and walked into the side door next to the throne.

Regan smiled noncommittally and followed the undead ranger into the elevator in the door - there are two ways to enter the Undercity from the outer city. In addition to the elevator, there is also the huge sewer mouth behind the Undercity. But if you don't want to get covered in it,

It stinks, it's best not to try the other way

After everyone stood firm, the elevator controlled by the magic circle sank at a constant speed, reaching the dungeon that was more than a hundred feet deep into the ground in a matter of seconds.

The moment the staircase door slowly opened, people's vision also dimmed - because of the lack of sunlight for many years, this underground city turned into a large circular coffin, and in this coffin, twenty people lived.

With the remaining ten thousand undead and their few tribal allies, the buildings in the entire city exude the sheen of another world.

"Aha, Bloodhook, look what this is? A living human being!"

As soon as Reagan stepped out of the elevator, a huge figure appeared in front of him. There were actually two heads on his swollen neck, and the body covered with sutures was full of grotesque human organs, with a bloody mouth full of vague...

You can also see a squirming arm!

"Uh..." Seeing such a majestic undead, Sophie couldn't help but retched in disgust. Although there were quite a few stitch monsters that fell under her bow, seeing them at such a close distance still made the clean elf feel nauseous.

"There is actually an elf girl, what a sumptuous dinner! The blood hook is going to eat her thigh, the elf thigh meat is so tender!" The other big head said with saliva, ignoring Ragen in front of him, and went straight

Stretching out his maggot-covered hands to Sophie

"Seeking death!" A flash of fierceness flashed in Reigen's eyes. Even though he couldn't understand the language of the dead, this deformed giant monster was obviously not expressing goodwill. Just when his hand was placed on the hilt of the sword, a magic flash of red light flashed.

The arrow shot out more quickly, grazing his cheek and hitting the arm of hatred.

"Boom!" After a loud noise, the Stitch Monster wailed and fell to the ground. His entire right arm was blown into powder, leaving only a piece of smelly meat on the ground. Regen looked back in surprise and saw

The bowstring in Nathanos' hand is trembling slightly

The Forgotten people around them followed the sound one after another. When they saw this strange combination, they were all stunned on the spot.

"Lord Wither, what are you..." an undead man who looked like an officer asked carefully.

Nathanos slowly hung the longbow back on his waist and glanced around at the gathering of Forgotten Ones. Most of their cloudy eyes were filled with confusion and anger. If Nathanos hadn't been present, maybe Regan and the others would have

I'm going to be torn apart by these guys.

"It's nothing surprising. This idiot dares to be rude to Her Majesty's guests. I just want to teach him a lesson." The Wither took two steps forward, and the undead gathered nearby had to retreat slightly. "

These are messengers sent by the Alliance to discuss with Your Majesty the joint expedition to Northrend. In the name of the Dark Queen’s warriors, I hereby declare that they will not be harmed in any way in the Undercity!”

"If there is any violation, that guy with two empty heads is an example!" A cold light flashed in Nathanos's eyes, and the two-headed abomination whining in pain was so scared that he closed his mouth.

His deep hatred has long been known to everyone, and he would not dare to go up and get into trouble now.

The Forsaken were bewildered and silent, and they all made way for the Ranger General.

"Let's go, everyone," Nathanos motioned for everyone to follow, while he cleared the way in front of him expressionlessly, "No one can hurt you here except Her Majesty the Queen. This is the Wither's promise to you!"

——It has to be said that Nathanos's status in the Undercity is really not low. Although every Forgotten person on the road looked at him unfriendly, no one was looking for trouble, or even said an insult.

Thanks, everyone looked at this strange team with complicated eyes.

"Don't be offended, they just see the past in you..."

As if feeling everyone's confusion, Nathanos explained in a low voice, walking forward without stopping, "Most of the people in the Undercity are the dead in the Battle of Lordaeron. Since they were forcibly transformed by the Lich King,

After becoming his slaves, we are in this state of immortality... After the queen broke free from Alsace's control, she led us to this place, allowing such a group of homeless rotten meat to have their own country.

"

"I am grateful for the queen's virtue of rebirth and vow to follow her to the ends of the earth... But not all of my people like this kind of life. Some of them gave up rebirth out of despair, some stood against us, and some chose to endure endless suffering.

In order to take revenge on the living - in fact, it is just jealousy in a different tone. They cannot get close to the Lich King, so they can only use this method to relieve their inner pain..."

"Tch," Roxas sneered at this explanation, "Did we cause them to be like this now? Why should we impose our own pain on others!"

"Having said that, how many people can understand..." Nathanos shook his head but did not continue.

Everyone moved forward slowly in silence, and inadvertently arrived at the lowest level of the city. This is where the Queen of Darkness and her army are.

The bottom area is composed of four large areas. The first area is the military area where non-special forces are stationed. Although they are the backbone of the Kingdom of the Dead, they are also composed of the most ordinary soldiers; the second area is the thieves area, as the name suggests.

It is the home of thieves and assassins who walk in the dark; and then it is the location of the high-level groups in the Undercity: the Great Alchemy Room, the research institute of members of the Royal Apothecary Society.

The final royal area is the residence of the Queen of Darkness. It is right next to the alchemy room and is connected to the outside by a narrow passage. Although Reagan is not an excellent commander, he can also see that this kind of terrain that is easy to defend and difficult to attack should be specialized.

Designed for solid defense, the defending side can deal with almost ten times more enemies depending on the terrain.

However, how many forces on the mainland can attack this heavily guarded underground palace? Regan smiled to himself, put this unfounded thought behind his mind, brushed off some dust on his shirt, and walked forward with his head held high.
