Chapter 92 The Taoist Receives Disciples

"By the way, let's talk about the Taoist priest's admission of apprentices.

I only talk about Taoist priests accepting disciples, not about sorcerers accepting disciples, let alone training classes, selling methods, how much does it cost to provide me to teach you anything.

We only talk about the current reality and universality, not about the historical evolution. The consensus in our Taoist circle is that we can maintain awe of the rules set by the ancestors, but the rules of the ancestors cannot be copied and implemented.

To be fair, this is not to avoid the precepts, nor is it simply because of the eagerness for quick success or instant benefits, but because the Taoist development cycle is too long. The precepts of various sects and sects are different in all dynasties. If you abide by one precept, there must be people who abide by higher precepts saying that you do not abide by the rules, and as a result, the precepts have become a tool for Taoists to complain to each other. So is it good to go to the extreme, abide by the highest level of precepts, and abide by a collection of all the precepts that have been experienced?

OK, very good, but there is no need to call Taoism in this way, because you have no way to preach the Tao, just practice it yourself.

To give the simplest example, the rule in my master's temple is to eat vegetarian food on the first and fifteenth day of the lunar month, but one day it is the first day of the lunar month. The leader of the Religious Bureau invites you to dinner for reasons. Do you go and eat? Do you drink or drink? Of course, you are determined to be willing to not eat meat or drink. However, people with a little rationality, or those who have been leaders, understand that if you want this temple to have a good exhibition in the future and get the support of officials, you have to eat this meat and drink this wine. There is no way, this is reality.

Of course, we can also show the logic from another perspective. If you eat vegetarian food on the first and fifteenth day of the lunar month, right? Then do you eat onions and garlic? Should you brush the pots and bowls specifically to avoid animal oil? Should you brush the chopping boards well? If you continue to show this logic, you will no longer be called Taoists and become Muslims.

Regarding the precepts, I may talk about them in the future, so I will click here until now.

Let’s get back to the topic, so I only talk about the more common practice of enrolling disciples now. If anyone wants to say that we are much stricter than this, there are more rules than I said. I can only say, OK, you are a good practice.

In a macroscopic perspective, Quanzhen Taoism and Zhengyi Taoism are also different. Quanzhen Taoist recruits disciples, which are generally divided into Taoist priests and lay Buddhists.

Because the Taoist priest Quanzhen wanted to become a monk and live in a temple, the distinction between it and the lay priest was very clear. Now there are some clues of chaos. The Taoist priest was to take a Taoist priest as his teacher alone, and then he lived in the same temple with his master, and brought tea and water to the master, and after the saddle, the horse and the horse were saddled, and the head was almost gone. After a few years of testing, the ritual of the crown scarf was held, and the Taoist priest was officially a Taoist priest.

This person can be based on the master's virtues and Taoism, or the master's various abilities and skills, or just worship of Taoism, or worship of this temple or worship of the gods worshipped in the temple. It is purely random to meet a Taoist priest to be a disciple.

If you are well prepared, give your master a red envelope to offer to your master. Of course, there is no problem. If you have no conditions, such as those who have no father or mother, and those who are poor in their families, it doesn’t matter if you don’t offer to your master, because following your master every day is also offering.

Generally speaking, Taoist priests are more cautious when accepting such disciples. Either they have a very good fate or they are very acknowledging them. Otherwise, they will not easily accept disciples because if the disciple commits human affairs in the future, the master will be scolded and violates the laws of heaven, and the master will suffer.

Another type of disciple is a lay disciple. Often Taoist believers worship a Taoist priest, so they worship him as their teacher and offer to the master a red envelope ranging from tens of hundred or tens of thousands of dollars to show their feelings. When the master gives him a certificate of conversion, he becomes a Taoist lay Buddhist.

Then life in the secular world is not affected. I often go to see my master. When there are rituals in the temple, I can help with physical labor.

For the needs of promoting Taoism and promoting palace construction, Taoist priests often have many lay disciples, respected Taoist priests, or lay disciples of palace managers, even hundreds or thousands.

Of course, there is no need for the Taoist priest, and there is no ability to test one by one, so I think no matter what the disciple of a Taoist priest does or shows his virtue, it should not affect the evaluation of the Taoist himself.

If the previous sentence is true, then no matter how outstanding, famous, or wealthy a Taoist disciple a Taoist is, I will not increase my evaluation of this Taoist priest because of this.

The situation of Zhengyidao is very complicated. Zhengyi Taoist priests who live in the temple, and Taoist disciples who work on Taoism, set up an altar to do things to cure disasters and pray for believers, and spiritual treasures to help Taoist priests, including some scattered Taoist priests who are engaged in arts and numerology, may receive lay disciples who do not want to be Taoist disciples because of their own practice and Taoist practice, but they must still want to be Taoist priests.

Because Zhengyidao priests have few rules and do not have to keep their heads, they can eat meat and get married and have children. The identity and title of Taoist priest is very attractive to many people, especially young people in the 1980s and 1990s. In short, no matter what the purpose is, young people who are willing to be Zhengyidao priests have more than one year. Although they have passed on them, they have all kinds of ideas, and the master's ability to restrain them is very limited and he cannot intervene in his secular life. In most cases, he has to act as a spiritual chicken soup release. In addition, he is to die for himself.

What's worse is the following one. If this person becomes a disciple, that means he wants to be a Taoist priest, then the master can often test it. At least he should take a closer look at his face, calculate his eight characters, ask about his mental journey and growth experience. Some would persuade him to leave, and some would be ready to go, although he would get started, he would actually be prepared as a layperson.

But now the pace of life has accelerated. Many people are preparing to become lay Buddhists when they become disciples, and the master also takes him as a lay Buddhist. However, in less than two years, life is not going well, the factory layoffs, his girlfriend breaks up, and his parents force him to get married, so he suddenly wants to become a Taoist priest. In this way, the master will be very passive. If the persuasion is fruitless and he is unwilling to break up, he can only lead him to spread the word.
