Chapter 34 Semi-automatic traps

In order to prevent the stored food from being stolen again, Wang Yang decided not to hesitate, found a good place, and hid it.

I had this idea for a long time. If I want everyone to realize that the food storage is not enough, I have to make them hungry once.

If they worked hard to collect food and put it in the cave, they would not feel the lack of food at all.

It's just that this idea kept moving because there was no suitable place.

More importantly, Wang Yang simply did not get enough food.

After hastily collecting the nuts, he slept next to the barrel all night.

At dawn the next day, he carried a wooden barrel filled with chestnuts on his back, placed a hunting barrel on top of the barrel, and set out on the road carrying bone spurs, wooden spears, and stone knives.

After arriving at the dense forest of bones, he stopped, put down the barrel containing chestnuts, and prepared to dig a hole.

The reason why I chose this place is that there are no animals approaching, so there is no need to look ahead and behind when digging a hole.

Secondly, because animals are scarce, food can reduce the risk of being snatched away by other animals.

After putting down all the equipment, he took the wooden barrel used as a trap to eight meters away, connected the leather strap, and started digging a hole.

Choosing to dig holes to hide food is also a helpless move. It may be a bit stupid, but given the current conditions, we can only bite the bullet and do it.

He grabbed the stone knife with both hands, put aside the bones on the ground, and began to dig.

There were no good digging tools in this era, and Wang Yang had never thought of making a hoe. The stone knife was a relatively handy tool.

It is said to be a stone knife, but it is actually a slightly polished stone chip. One end is flat and the other is large. The larger end is held by hand.

The soil here is very fertile and the geology is relatively soft, so it is fairly easy to dig. It took a long time to finally complete a 70-centimeter-deep pit. After putting the barrel down, it did not fill it with soil immediately, but continued to dig.

After digging for more than an hour, Wang Yang was so tired that his hands and feet were sore and he was sweating profusely. He glanced at the barrel trap eight meters away and sighed deeply.

No animals entered the trap at all, and it was so desolate that it didn't look like a forest.

"It took me half a day to work on one pit, and it took me another day and a half to make two more pits."

"Staying here means that I haven't collected any food for a day and a half. Even if I take stimulants like crazy and dig all the holes in one day, it will be like a wasted day."

"I still have to go pick fruits. It will take another day there. I also have to find food sources again. I don't know how many more days it will take..."

"Judging from the fact that the temperature is getting lower and lower, it will snow in less than ten days. Where will we find food then?"

Time was tight and there was no time to waste, so Wang Yang started to use his brain again.

He looked in the direction of the dozen or so fruit trees. Although there were many small animals there, if he dug a hole there, no small animals would come close.

Moreover, there is a mountain behind and a virgin forest in front. When digging a hole, one has to be alert to the surrounding areas, which greatly delays the efficiency of the excavation and is unreasonable.

But it’s even worse here, not even a bird can be seen.

You have to find a compromise.

"It would be great if there was a fully automatic trap, like a mouse trap. The mouse is caught as soon as it goes up. But doesn't this thing need a spring?"

Wang Yang thought hard, his eyes suddenly lit up, and he stood up suddenly: "Yes!"

It is said that dogs can jump over walls when they are anxious, and rabbits bite people when they are anxious. This shows that everyone is forced, and when pushed, they will burst out with unprecedented abilities.

The same was true for Wang Yang. He suddenly thought of a way to take care of both ends.

As we all know, mouse traps, or the big traps ambush on TV, cannot identify whether a living object is coming, they only activate their traps when exposed to external force.

To put it bluntly, even if you throw a stone over, it will pick it up.

So, if external force can be used, why can't it be used on wooden barrels? No one has ever said that springs are necessary for mechanisms.

After getting rid of the dead end of habitual thinking, Wang Yang suddenly became enlightened.

He set up the barrel trap, put fruits inside, and murmured to himself: "There are two keys to the barrel, the small branches that support the weight of the barrel, and the fruits inside."

"If other animals knock down the branches while taking the fruit, they will be covered by the barrel."

"So, how should we design it so that when the little animals get the fruit, they will knock down the branches? These two things are not connected at all... Huh? Connected?"

Wang Yang patted his head and said happily: "Yes, I won't let them connect if they are not connected!"

Thinking of this, he picked up a branch from the side, flattened one end and pointed the other end, and then skewered the fruit to the pointed end.

Then put the flat end at the connection between the barrel and the supporting branch, and use the pressure of the barrel to make the branch with the fruit on it fly horizontally, and you have completed this small mechanism.

In this way, the fruit is related to the supporting branch.

As soon as the little animals enter, they will definitely hit the fruit in the air. When they touch it, the branches will move. When the branches move, the supporting force will change, and they will no longer be able to support the barrel, and the barrel will fall down.

"Why didn't I think of this before? I'm so stupid, so stupid!"

Wang Yang was in a good mood, so he quickly got down and tried it once. Sure enough, when he moved the fruit, the branch fell over.

He hurriedly ran to the dozens of fruit trees. After he was done, he ran back to the Bone Forest and dug a hole with great energy.

After calculating the time, he ran over in almost half an hour.

I saw that the barrel had already covered a small animal, and it was struggling inside.

Wang Yang looked around and saw that no other animals were ambushing him, so he ran over quickly, took out his wooden spear and stabbed at random, and the battle was resolved in minutes.

When the inside of the barrel was filled with blood, he opened it.

It turned out to be a pheasant!

Wang Yang smacked his lips in surprise. It was the first time he knew that pheasants also eat fruit. He designed this to deal with moles, civets and other small animals.

Anyway, no matter what, it would be great if you can catch it.

He quickly collected the pheasants, rearranged the trap, and returned to the Bone Forest.

Half an hour later, another small animal was attacked.

When I opened it, I saw it was a civet.

He was happy. He had long understood that the group of civet cats were not very willing. They often wandered around and were reluctant to leave. Now they are better and have become his food source.

Put it away again and arrange it.

He went back again.

Half an hour later, he came again.

This time, no small animals were found taking the bait. I looked down at the fruit inside and found that it was intact. It must have not attracted the attention of the small animals.

Wang Yang was not depressed even after missing the mark once, and happily went back to dig holes.

For half the afternoon, Wang Yang had been running back and forth between the two places and caught six small animals intermittently, which made him very happy.

Now that you have an extremely efficient tool, it shouldn't be difficult to scrape a large amount of food.
