Chapter Thirteen: Marching
The battle in Constantinople became more and more intense, and a large number of soldiers died every day. Both the siege team and the defenders were almost reaching their mental limit.
On the plains of Hungary, an army passed by and met with the actual owners of this land.
Laszlo was in a good mood, Georg kept his promise, and the Austrian nobles gave him full support. Now he has an army of 20,000 people. No matter what the future outcome is, he has the right to make his own choices.
"Where is he?"
The speaker was János Hunyadi, who received the news and was standing outside the city of Pest waiting for Laszlo's army.
"It's less than ten miles away," the sentry responded.
In the distance, a black line gradually emerged, becoming increasingly clear.
Janos had no objections to this titular king. He himself was not a particularly power-hungry person, he was just a representative of the interests of the nobles.
Looking at Laszlo galloping towards him on horseback, Janos looked very respectful.
"Your Majesty," Janos saluted. Just as he was about to say something, Laszlo interrupted him with a loud laugh.
"No need to be polite, my regent," Laszlo got off his horse and helped Janos up.
"Thank you for your hard work, you did a great job." Laszlo put his arm around Janos' shoulders and said,
"I came here this time to give the Ottomans a hard time and let them know how powerful we are."
Although he had vaguely guessed the purpose of Laszlo's visit, Janos was a little overwhelmed by his directness.
"Your Majesty, you have worked hard for coming all the way. Let's go to the city and rest." János instinctively wanted to avoid the question first.
"Okay, okay, let's go into the city first." Laszlo didn't notice anything and entered the city at the lead.
In the palace, Laszlo, who had taken a short rest, sat in the main seat, followed by Janos and the Hungarian nobles.
"Since His Majesty has decided to intervene in the Ottoman war, Hungary is willing to contribute to this end."
János struck first,
"Hungary can supply food to the army, but the winter wheat has not been harvested yet, so I have to ask Your Majesty to use last year's inventory as military food."
János set the tone first, asking for food to be distributed evenly but not for people.
After listening to what Janos said, Laszlo turned to the others with a smile,
"What do you think?"
The others looked at each other. They didn't want to come originally, but Janos wanted to demonstrate to the king who descended from heaven, so they came as a last resort. Janos was the one who decided everything in the country, so naturally the others wouldn't have any ideas.
.
Seeing that everyone was silent, Laszlo knew that he obviously had no prestige in Hungary. After all, even his movements were restricted before. What prestige does a child want?
"Okay," Laszlo sighed,
"In that case, let me tell you straight, at least 10,000 troops, and the supply of materials along the way will also be borne by you."
After saying that, he stepped down from the throne and left here directly.
"This... this is too much." Seeing Laszlo walking away, the nobles rushed to János' side.
"He really regards Hungary as his own? Why does he want to ask for anything from us?" someone shouted dissatisfied.
"Why? Just because he is the king of Hungary." János frowned and scolded,
"I haven't even taken your things yet, why are you reacting like this?"
"Aren't I trying to defend you," the person being scolded sneered, "Besides, you might have to ask me for it. Let's make it clear first, I won't be able to give you much."
A group of snobs who usually ask the central government for things they are very active in. But when it is the central government's turn, they ask for what they don't have.
"Okay, okay, let's go down." Janos waved his hand. Everyone saw that he looked impatient and had no choice but to retreat.
János also had his own considerations. Laszlo obviously wanted to establish his authority, and at the same time divide and win over each other to see if there were any nobles who could adapt to the situation, increase their own strength, and want to control the power of Hungary.
As for not giving it, Laszlo would have nothing to lose. Anyway, there are people who have food, and the battle can still be won without Janos, but it will be more difficult.
"Cooperate with the Ottomans?" János quickly rejected this idea. This idea seemed very tempting, but it was a poisonous apple.
Cooperating with the Ottomans, the King of Poland will probably laugh out loud once Laszlo dies. Isn't this an inappropriate reason to declare war? Hungary has always been at odds with the Ottomans, and if it provokes the Poles again, the surrounding big countries will be provoked.
Isn't it the old birthday girl who hanged himself?
After careful consideration, János decided to agree to Laszlo's request. There was no other way. After all, Laszlo was the king in name, so it was much better than being defeated by the Ottomans.
"Alas~" János is really exhausted mentally and physically. The nobles in the country have been trying to resist his centralization policy. The Ottomans are eyeing him, and now there is Laszlo.
"What a troubled time it has been."
a few days later,
Outside the city of Pest, a large army was preparing to leave.
"Your Majesty must return victoriously." János said worriedly.
"Don't worry," Laszlo smiled heartily,
"I will win this battle."
After saying that, he left here with the dust raised by the horse's hooves.
Watching Laszlo go away, Janos felt complicated. After a while, he called his confidants,
"There is news that the Hungarian regent János is preparing to return power to His Majesty Laszlo."
"Ah?" The confidant was shocked, "Your Highness, please think again!"
"Needless to say, if he can come back victorious, I will naturally do this. If he fails or even... dies, then I will quit politics, right?"
"Yes." The confidant prepared to retreat respectfully, but was stopped by Janos again.
"By the way, we must let the Ottoman Sultan know about this, do you understand?"
"Understood." The confidant replied quickly. Seeing that the regent had no other words, he slowly turned around and left to arrange the matter.
Unsurprisingly, the Sultan will definitely be shocked if he hears this news. This means that European support has arrived or is about to arrive. He must speed up the pace of the war and beware of enemy reinforcements, and this is what Janos
the goal of.
On the march, Laszlo was chatting with his confidant Heller. Heller was a nobleman he recruited from Austria, and Laszlo valued him very much.
"Your Majesty, János seems to be afraid of you. The future seizure of power can start from Hungary." Heller looked excited, as if good days were waving in front of him.
Seeing this, Laszlo patted Heller's head.
"It's not that simple. The regent may not have any desire for power, but it is still a bit difficult to seize power from him."
After saying that, he grinned,
"However, we have to win this battle first. When the time comes, no matter how reluctant he is, he can only obey my orders obediently."
Heller didn't know why, but he became excited when he heard about the war.
