Chapter 253 'The End of the Hungry Ghosts' Ridiculous Suggestions

Military fortress special ward.

The alloy gates were sealed layer by layer, and silence quickly returned to the clean and tidy high-end ward.

Leaning on the hospital bed, the old man in a hospital gown put down the book in his hand, turned around slowly, and faced the hurriedly arriving commander-in-chief Schubert.

Then, he revealed a very weird smile: due to partial nerve failure in his facial skin, his smile always left a treacherous impression on people.

But Schubert didn't care about these details and got straight to the point:

"I somewhat believe it now. What you said is not crazy, nor is it a perfunctory treatment of the empire."

When he said these words, his face was tense and his eyes were bright, and he did not let himself show his fatigue and uneasiness in facing countless dangerous groups.

The old man known as Dr. Hermet still kept smiling.

"Thank you," he responded politely, "something worse has finally happened, hasn't it?"

Schubert patiently informed the old man in concise language about the strange "migration" events taking place around the North Sea.

He discussed with the other party in a rather friendly manner:

"You are right, doctor, and I apologize for my arbitrariness."

"Our military fortresses and even the entire world are being hunted by dangerous species. Their danger is far more dangerous than crawlers, and even beyond our cognitive scope!"

"So, Dr. Hemet, oh no..."

Commander-in-Chief Schubert showed a hint of embarrassment at this moment and changed his words:

"Now I need to call you 'Dr. Kate'. Can I hear your thoughts on this matter?"

Thalia rushed out of the observation room and rushed to the internal control room of the operations department.

She is using her personal relationship to plead for access to the internal video from an hour ago.

"Please, just let me take a look. During this chaos of war, Victor was missing. He was still injured..."

"You know the rules, you have to report first."

The colleague on duty looked gloomy, as if he was indifferent to life and death.

"Don't do this, he will be punished, just make it easier~"

Thalia blinked and stuffed a cigarette into her colleague's pocket.

Tobacco has become a rare thing after the disaster. Only investigators on field missions can get this hot commodity.

"Well, you'd better hurry up." The colleague who had received the benefit looked around and seemed to believe that no one would care about the details of the process at this time.

"Thank you!"

Thalia nimbly entered the control room and began to call up the internal monitoring with ease.

As the surveillance windows opened in front of her eyes, Talia felt faintly uneasy.

Victor, Victor, I hope nothing happens...

Her eyes quickly swept through the monitoring windows. Unfortunately, she was not a super species player and did not have the super vision of an insect license holder, so she could not truly see at a glance.

However, she still found the familiar figure.

But this discovery did not bring her the slightest joy.

In the live video of the observation room, after Victor pointed out the location of the "Founder of the Race", he quietly stepped back while everyone's attention was focused on the target, and slowly looked around the real-time images of various areas in the room from a wider perspective.

Condition.

Then, as if he had discovered something, his gaze stopped in a certain direction, as if he was evaluating something.

After a moment, he turned around and left the observation room without any hesitation.

Continuing with this video, there is a clip in the corridor: it shows that Victor did go to the bathroom.

When he came out, the bandage on his arm had been removed, he seemed to have washed his face, and he looked like he was traveling lightly.

Then, he left the operations department calmly and disappeared into the elevator...

Where has he gone? What is he doing... Thalia's heart is filled with excitement!

Although Victor has a somewhat cynical personality and does not like to be bound by rules, to leave his post quietly and go to a security-controlled area like today is really unusual for Thalia!

But what makes her familiar old partner so abnormal?

Thalia froze in place.

She didn't dare to think about the answer to this question.

Department of Medical Security, Special Ward.

Commander-in-Chief Schubert's close adjutant opened the alloy gate and looked at the internal police officer who came in a hurry with a frown: "What's going on?"

"The attack by a new mutant intruder was discovered nearby just now. It has been dealt with. I would like to ask if the adults inside were disturbed?"

Outside the door, a curly-haired uncle with an old face and animal teeth hanging around his neck greeted politely.

"without thanks."

"Okay sir."

After a brief exchange, the alloy gate locked again.

Schubert turned and looked at the adjutant.

"Sir, it's like this...it's okay now."

"good."

Schubert withdrew his gaze and refocused on the old man in front of him:

"You mean, the answer lies in the mysterious place in the North Sea?"

It was obviously not the first time he heard this term.

The term "mysterious place" in the North Sea has appeared countless times in the so-called "Dr. Hemet's Diagnostic Report on Mental Abnormality" and has been passed down as a joke.

"Yes." The old man said solemnly, "However, I can't remember where it is. I only have a vague memory of it."

He tried to describe the clues of this vague memory:

"The sky is clear, the temperature is comfortable, and the beautiful buildings are like a mysterious kingdom built in Utopia."

"I have never seen such a pleasant place in my life, not even in the world before the disaster."

Speaking of this, a look of longing flashed across his face.

However, the next second, he changed the subject:

"But I brought disaster back from there."

"Everything has a root. Only by returning to the source of the disaster can we find out how to understand the disaster and solve it. We must go back."

The old man's face gradually revealed an expression of morbid obsession.

Schubert swallowed calmly, frowned and asked:

"Forgive me for being a rough guy, but I still can't figure it out. You said that you took away the identity of Dr. Hermit, pretended to be him, started academic exchanges with the younger version of yourself, and led yourself onto the dangerous path of being obsessed with mutations.

…”

I’ve never heard you say this.”

Schubert moved closer to the old man, focusing carefully on those sometimes dull and sometimes crazy eyes, trying to pry out some absurd truth from them.

"I don't know, I don't remember."

Same answer, no more surprises.

Schubert sighed and rubbed his forehead:

"That's very difficult...I can't mobilize a large number of troops to gamble with you just for your ridiculous proposal."

"But I really don't remember it. There's no lie."

The old man's hands were clasped together and rubbed together, his expression painful and helpless:

"This is the only way. You must help me get to that mysterious place! You must help me. Humanity should not perish just like this..."

"People are corrupt, but corruption does not mean the end, death does! Corruption can be cured, but death means there is nothing..."

"Schubert, it's my fault, it's my fault!"

The old man became more and more excited as he spoke. He suddenly stood up and held Schubert's broad shoulders with both hands, passing on his fear:

"Please help me and don't let me make another big mistake!"

"I have killed myself, I have killed many people, and... no, I have to go back, I have to go back immediately!!"

His actions shocked Schubert's cronies!

"stop!"

"Let go of the Commander-in-Chief!!"

Several figures rushed over and pushed the old man down on the bed with three clicks. Schubert adjusted his clothes with a solemn expression.

But the suppressed old man still struggled hard with his thin body under the hands of the strong adjutant, and tears fell down his old and stiff face:

"It will be too late if you don't go..."

Schubert looked at the other party with an expression of surprise and shock.

He seemed to see some kind of inevitable disaster, just like the roaring waves!

But he had no other choice.

As the supreme commander of the North Sea military barrier, he must be responsible for the entire army and the effective forces of all countries. He cannot mobilize the army for such absurd reasons and invest limited and precious combat resources on tasks with no prospects.

"Let's go." Schubert ordered.

"No! Don't go, Commander... Schubert! You will regret it!!"

At this moment, the lights in the house suddenly went out!

As the old man's pleading fell, several short muffled hums followed, and silence returned to the room again.

"What's going on?" Schubert's majestic voice sounded in the room.

The old man's breathing continued in the direction of the hospital bed.

But another slightly younger, but extremely calm voice sounded from the room, answering Commander-in-Chief Schubert’s question:

"Sorry, you need to carefully consider his suggestion."

As the words fell, the lights above Schubert flickered, and the room returned to its original brightness.

He subconsciously looked towards the direction from which the voice came.
